Review Visit: July 14th, 2015 Who knew there were so many places to get coffee in such a little town. Our journey across Canada brought us to Nakusp, where there seems to be 1 coffee shop per 500 people in town. No, seriously. This is one of three places I got coffee while I was in Nakusp. Not that I am complaining or anything. As with a lot of places in Nakusp, we stumbled upon this place during our afternoon stroll through town. Since I am magnetically drawn to coffee places, my accomplices had now choice but to follow me in. At first, I wasn't 100% sure this was a coffee place. I didn't get a good look in the window before heading in. I was kind of expecting it to be a bar or something to do with adult beverages. It was a welcome surprise that it was a coffee place. We entered and looked around. I noticed the menu offered more than coffee to order. We all noticed they had your typical coffee shop stuff for sale. Bags of coffee, baked goods, various coffee accessories, etc. They also had a small table or two set up inside for consuming your beverage/food. If it's a beautiful day outside, they have some outdoor seating. While we looked over the menu, I decided on my usual ice caramal latte. My cohorts got plain coffees and Andy also picked up some nanaimo bars here for the kids. Seeing as we just got coffees and baked goods, we resumed our walk around town. This is when I took my first sip and what a delicious latte it was. It wasn't something to write home about but after having it made in many different ways, it was nice to have it done in a way that I prefer. The drink was smooth and full of flavor without anything overpowering the other ingredients. It's a shame we never made it here for lunch. The menu had some stuff on it that sounded really appetizing and also the baked goods looked delicious behind the glass. I also wanted to pick up some of the Kick Ass flavor of coffee they had on sale. read more

On a short vacay here in Nacusp and wanted to try the breakfast here. Had the loaded omelet with hash browns. It was spectacular. Cooked to perfection and tasted delicious. Was definitely full and satisfied after that meal. It is a walk up deli type for ordering. But was greeted with great service and a smile. I definitely recommend this place if your ever in town. So, I'm pretty sure I've got a date square addiction. Either that, or I've made it my mission to try every date square available in the world. So I'm in Nakusp with my dog and I'm looking for a place to have breakfast. There are a few restaurants that allow pets on their patio that I know of, so I'm trying to decide which one. Then out of the corner of my eye, I spot a date square in the display case at What's Brewing and know that I must select this place for breakfast. Not to mention, they've got a full padded casual patio set outside to eat at - win! I got the date square, although I'll be honest - when the time came to pull the trigger, I was debating among several of their baked goods. I still regret not getting one of their massive muffins. They looked SO good. But my coffee was delightful, and so was the date square - big, chewy, no cinnamon (thank you! Gah! I hate it when places use cinnamon in their date squares!). So the puppy and I sat on their comfy chairs, ate our breakfast (well, I did), and read my book. It was so tranquil and satisfying! read more

One of the best things about traveling is exploring the small towns, instead of flying right through. Nakusp is one of those towns and "What's Brewing on Broadway" fits right in. A cute coffee shop boasting fresh Kicking Horse coffee (Smart Ass = my new favorite!) and a much-sought-after special lunch menu item, this place screams cozy and warmth and please-stop-here-on-your-way-out-of-town! My boyfriend and I were looking for some coffee and a place to catch up on emails, and this spot did the trick. Service was friendly, and the coffee and lunch special we ordered (veggie chow mein, tempura chicken, pork skewer, and a pork spring roll...so much food for around $13, aka reasonable) were delicious. I initially ordered a Danish along with my coffee and was unimpressed, but the lunch made up for it. Will definitely seek this place out the next time we are traveling through Nakusp! read more

Best coffee in the Kootenays outside of Nelson! Ask for a short Americano and they serve it strong with nice crema. Lunch soups are homemade in the small back kitchen, as are the hot, fresh breakfast muffins. Good cookies, lunch personal size pizzas and other daily treats. Staff is young and enthusiastic. A local hangout. Nice patio on the side beneath some shade trees. read more

We love this little coffee shop. It opens at 6:30 which suits us for a coffee pit stop when we are on our way to the ferry. The kick ass coffee options are great and their baked goods are yummy. The thick slab of banana loaf is our favourite. The shop is small but comfortable and the staff are pleasant and helpful. Definitely worth stopping in. read more

It was pouring out and I had to get a toe nail clipper on my way to New Denver. I was cheered up by the excellent coffee and a huge delicious lemon poppy seed muffin. It seemed like a nice hang out place for the locals too; though a downpour at 9am may help business a bit. read more

Stopped in from our drive from Vernon. There was 6 of us who were excited to get coffee. Two of us managed to get a cup from the coffee pump while the third person only was able to fill their cup 1/2 of the way. When we asked the server at the til if she could please make more coffee she very rudely replied "No. We close in an hour." We laughed thinking she was kidding seeing how the stores name is What's Brewing.....however she very serious she would not make us more coffee. Then she proceeded to charge us full price for all three coffees even though it was 2.5. I should also mention the store was half full of customers also coffee. Very disappointed considering the price of the coffee is Starbucks prices. read more

Driving through and stopped for a quick bite. The baked goods were amazing! We had a sausage roll, spanakopita, and a spinach and feta scone. All were top notch. And I'm pretty picky about baked goods. Definitely worth the stop! read more

Great service, very gluten free aware, although they didn't have too many options. We were there with our small kids it it felt very comfortable. Homemade chili was very tasty. Kids loved the hot chocolate. read more

I left behind my arcteryx gortex jacket when I stopped in this coffee shop earlier this fall. I called and confirmed I had left the jacket and asked the staff to set it aside for me as a friend would be picking it up. My friend came by to pick it up and was informed that it was 'already picked up'. I called the cafe and the jacket had suddenly gone 'missing'. Distasteful and very unprofessional.
