The two-story restaurant sits across the street from the bay with views that make the #7 meal (with cheese, dry) taste even more triumphant! We decided to eat upstairs on the second floor and then sit out on the second floor patio to finish our drinks. Absolutely had to visit the replica of the first store in the city where Whataburger was born. There wasn't much to it, but it was fun and checked off an item on my bucket list. Woohoo! Eating at the original Whataburger location in Corpus Christi is in itself an experience. Overlooking the Gulf from the second floor is a plus. The ambiance at this place is one of respectful history. There are two stories to this building with an elevator. Food was great! Our food was hot, as I like it! The service is spot on. They come to your table with a tray full of condiments for you to pick out. This is a nice touch. The staff uses the stairs to bring the food. Daily exercise completed. LOL! read more

It's Whataburger (by the bay!). I normally do not think much of reviews of fast food restaurants. They are always an aggregate poor rating, which is what one could expect of any fast food joint. However, Whataburger has a special place in my big blue Texas heart. And this is a very special Whataburger for many reasons. For one, it is its flagship location in its hometown of Corpus Christi. Secondly, it has a beautiful view of the Corpus Christi Bay! I have always *loved* Whataburger, well before I started eating better. And once I did start eating more selectively (for health), Whataburger was one of the first to start making it easy to order from their menu à la carte. I can now easily get a pile of meat and eggs on the go, and on the cheap! A lot of folks in Texas were up in arms a few years back when it went from local family owned to having sold majority ownership to a Chicago investment firm in a bid to expand. From what I can tell, not much has changed since then with respect to menu or company values. My perspective is the more *Texas* we can spread around the country, the better. Pretty sure the grubhub people don't work for WB, so that doesn't reflect in the score, but something to keep in mind if you order by that. I had an excellent burger here, but a plain and dry burger is difficult to mess up. Boneless buffalo wings are tasty, too. The fries were cold and soggy. Grubhub leaving it on the porch might've contributed, but since the wings were still hot I'm pretty sure the fries were cold before leaving the restaurant. Prime example of how terrible Whataburger is. Order placed at 8:06 and it says order will be ready at 8:18 on the long end. So we arrive at around 8:17 and they take care of the one person at the counter. Then the team members walk away and I am left at the counter until about 8:20 or so and somebody finally helps me and i verify dine in (same as i did on the app). They pull up my order and provide a number and a receipt and i wait until 8: 28 and i ask about my food that was supposed to be ready 10 minutes ago. As a die-hard fan of Whataburger, I was super excited to visit this one. A 2-story Whataburger? Say whaaaat? My boyfriend and I were on a day trip to Corpus and we wanted to try another restaurant for dinner, so we only got Whataburger Jr Combos for lunch so that we won't be too full. The first time visiting was in 2019, a dream come true, it was rainy but the visit experience was grand, mostly cuz the excitement we build up wanting to visit this place while on vacation. The second time we came was early 2022, we had a similar experience for my 3 boys that came with me and they had a blast! This last experience (the third visit) was last night for an online order. The service was excellent and friendly, hot fresh food and good ambience. The current experience is for breakfast, service is excellent as expected, we got hot food and since it's a sunny day we are sitting outside, the temperature is warm, we hear the music out here and we had our food brought to us! I see a lot of reviews where it's held to such a high standard and expectations, and if it does it gets a crazy 1star review. Flagship Whataburger! This is the finest Whataburger in all the land. This Whataburger is what all other Whataburgers aspire to be like! This place is HUGE. I've never seen a Whataburger so big, so majestic. It's seriously larger than the Double-Meat Whataburger, Whatasized. Corpus Christi used to be the home to Whataburger, until they up and left for greener pastures in San Antonio. I think Corpus is still feeling a bit chapped about that whole relocation thing. Whataburger has always been a great part of this town, being a good corporate citizen. But now they're in San Antonio, because of the airport apparently. This place has a regular menu, no specialty items, which is a bit of a let down. We were hoping for the Dr. Pepper milkshake, but alas, the deal was over. Whataburger got our toppings mixed up on the burgers, but we swapped the tops of the burgers and everyone was happy. I Outwhataburgered my dining companion when I opted for the fries over the onion rings. Whataburger recently got bought out by a Chicago private investment firm! Honey Butter, Please! I just hope those Chicagans don't mess with Texas and change things. I noticed that the cleanliness here could use some work- some of the tables weren't clean, and the floors could use some moppin'. The coolest thing about this flagship location is the second story, where you'll find the mural depicting all the most important flags that have flown over Texas. They've got the Whataburger flag right there in the midst of the 6 flags that flew over Texas. Down stairs be sure to sip your sweet tea on the bench with a sculpture of the founder of Whataburger, Mr. Harmon Dobson. He's there on the bench. What a experience! Being from Oort of ttown, I had to try whataburger! I decided to go to the biig one by the shore since it had a greedy city view. I don't know how I feel about mustard in burgers and ketchup on the side. My onion rings were horrible, it tasted like it was fried hard in old oil. I understand it is a metro area, but there was a homeless man eating out of the trash while we were waiting on our food. I counted at least 5 homeless men they walked in and got cups out of the trash and filled them up at the drink station. Two homeless men walking around and asking for money outside. I like Whataburger a lot. While founded in Texas, and in Corpus Christi right on the Gulf of Mexico, it has expanded to the Southeast as well, be it inland, on the Gulf Coast, and in North Florida (read: Jacksonville). Despite being a native Californian, none of my friends and acquaintances talked about In 'N' Out Burger all that much. We would just end up at In 'N' Out no more and no less than at any other chain. In 'N' Out might be the West Coast equivalent of Whataburger in a loose sort of way but I never quite understood salivating over In 'N' Out. Whataburger has the same sort of lore and pull for me ... and possibly for others. However, their menu is much more vast and their business model is therefore different. As such, the compare/contrast probably stops there. Whataburger sort of starts out with a 3.5 stars. I like their simple burgers, their more decked out burgers, their onion rings, and that they have other types of sandwiches. I like that they seem like they were cooked at a backyard barbecue. At this location, I remember that the people working there were polite, that the food arrived quickly, that the prices were fair, and that the restaurant was very clean. However, let me go on about the building. The restaurant's building takes this Whataburger into 4 star terrain. I read some of its history inside the store and this novel Whataburger appears to have been (re)built on the site of the very first one, overlooking the water and the Ts (these fingers into the Gulf with roads) and featuring two levels in a weird A-frame shape with balconies and patios. I can't forget the palm trees, either, but then those are indigenous to that area. Also, go ahead and take photos. This Whataburger is a landmark and an icon. The two-story what a burger in Corpus Christi Texas has to be the filthiest what a burger I have ever seen. I enjoy a good serving of what they have offer just not at this location because not only was the facility filthy the employees were rude and disrespectful and couldn't get a order right if their life depended on it. I don't live in the area and have only dined at this location once so it could've just been a bad day on their end but somehow I imagine it's like this there every day. In any case I will NOT be going back and I would NOT recommend this location to anyone. With a dozen other locations within a short drive there's no need to anyways. Recently visited this location and was disappointed with the service and cleanliness of the restaurant. They got our order wrong and it also took too long even for Whataburger. When we finally received our food, some of it was cold and they forgot to give us the sauce we requested. After we told the server and she went to get us our sauce, she came back to reprimand us about telling them beforehand about the sauce. We said that we did tell them when ordering. Not only that, but we requested two sauces and they only gave us one so we had to go back ourselves to get the second sauce. This time-consuming process made the food get even colder. Aside from that experience, the restrooms were gross. In the women's restroom 2 out of the 3 stalls said "out of order" and the one stall that did work had toilet paper sitting sky high on one side of the toilet. One of the servers doubled as a janitor which I found odd since there were other servers. The place looks old and needing an update. To say that this is the flagship location, it doesn't look good. I've been here several times before and I always enjoyed it, but I had not been for a few years until recently. It really put us off and now we don't want to come to this location anymore.
