For starters, very few stations can say they have stuck with the same format and formula for over 20 years - and have it work - but WIIL rock can. They stand out from the other corporate owned clones of each other found everywhere on the dial today. The morning show is original and the hosts do a decent job entertaining. Even if the humor gets silly, you can tell they genuinely enjoy what they do - and try to have fun with it. Take a listen to WTMX in the morning (or the Drive..etc.), and if you have not vomited from the innocuous prepacked "McBanter" than you should not listen to WIIL. If you appreciate real people - flaws and all on air - and real rock - then 95 WIIL rock is your station.

You want music without direction, rhythm jerky and all over the place with hardly a melody? There's the pulsating guitar out of tune, dysfunctional blaring musical instruments, and a vocal out of key attempting to sing coming out of nowhere every once in a while in a song that's hardly recognizable, then you came to the right radio station WONC 89.1 FM. By the way they won the Best College Radio station award In March 2015. Probably some of the board members from the college voted straight 5's to win! You'd never know they were once a Christian college. Look it up. Sadly, this is the style of music that's available at colleges today. And don't look for a change of pace on Sundays either, for a little spirituality? It's not in the mix for sure. It seems the programming manager just zapped it out of the program.

The DJs aren't the smoothest, but that means this isn't Clearchannel or Infinity Broadcasting. If you can't get it in your car, check out the website - live streaming. Local fitness guru Nicki Anderson does a show on wellness, as do a few other local celebs. Tuned in this morning and there was some live-sounding church broadcast. I'm not religious, so I'll chalk it up to appealing to a diverse crowd of college students.

They play a local playlist of bands from Chicago, songs about Illinois, and talk about local political and social issues. Since this station is on the left side of the dial, there's no real commercials on here- it truly serves the community with the occasional public service announcement. Plus, they talk about things that other radio stations won't or can't have the time to discuss. The celebrate all the local holidays, and have some in-depth discussions on all things Chicago. If you don't like the music on here, give it an hour, and the DJ will change, and they'll put something else on. This morning, I woke up jamming to Tupac with them. You can pick up this station on a smart speaker world-wide! If you're missing Chicago, or just wanting to learn a little more about the Windy City, this is a great way to tune in and turn on!
