The absolute worst. I've been using this company for a year and a half through my employer and they continue to deny claims, saying I owe X amount of money, but then never know how to even direct me on how to properly file a claim. I have jumped through hoops for months and had my daycare fill out every form they have asked me to, only to be denied and have someone else tell me to do something different. Just got another letter asking for over $1,000 and customer service continues to put me on hold because she has no idea how to help me or what it means either. Absolutely horrible. Terrible. Every single, and I mean, every single claim we've filed gets denied. The Emergency Room was denied, using the ONLY receipt we received. To be clear... FSA money is OUR own money that we are allowing your company to hold and disburse pretax for medical related fees. This company then denies claims with very legit documentation of said fees..for what reason ???so at the end of the year they can take the money for themselves? Its criminal. My previous employer used TASC for this service. I used TASC for 10 yrs without a single problem. Every single office copay, xray copay, lab copay, dental copay..has been a complete nightmare with this company. I stupidly elected an fsa account for next year too but after that... if I dont sue them first... as long as this company is handling my fsa account..I will be electing not to participate..would rather have the headache of bringing all the receipts to my tax preparer then deal with these criminals any more. Read these reviews people at Wex/Discovery Benefits...we all are saying the same exact thing!!!!Get it together, it isnt rocket science to read an itemized medical bill so I feel it is by design to be so negligent with our money...criminal intent. Employers: Do not use this company to manage your employee's health benefits. It provides horrible customer service. Their written material is lengthy and overly complicated. The telephone support is terrible. This company is absolutely inflexible in trying to handle customer problems. This company is useless and has absolutely NO CONCERN for you or your family. Our family is on a Cobra plan that just switched to Discovery Benefits to be the new Cobra administrator. My son needs urgent diagnostic imaging following an injury. I called this administrator once my information was sent to them to request assistance with expediting the notification of eligibility to the carrier. I could not get the imaging done without prior authorization unless I paid privately. I quickly told the representative that I would pay the premium immediately. I was told that no, I would have to mail the premium and after that it could take 14 days for the carrier to be notified. I was not told that a urgent update was an option that could be started to expedite this process. After my partner called the next day, he was then able to pay online and was told about this urgent update option. He initiated this process, which has been messed up every step of the way. It has now been 4 days since the urgent update was initiated and the company has still been unable to successfully connect with the insurance carrier. We were even told that the e-mail had been received by the insurance carrier multiple times by Discovery Benefits representatives when in fact it had never been sent. After we were told that the urgent update had been sent, we were told that our son's information had not been added to the plan so his information still had not been received by the insurance company. We are still waiting to see if our son has even been added yet. Unfortunately, I do not believe a single thing that is told to me by these people any longer. The saddest part about this whole situation is that this company is delaying my 12 year old son's medically necessary care and they have no problem telling you that you that there is nothing they can do. They won't even make a phone call on your behalf. I'm going to file a formal complaint and I am hopeful that we will not need to rely on this company much longer. read more

I would give zero stars if I could. My wallet was stolen with my discovery benefits card in it. I called customer service and was told that my wait would be more than 10 minutes. It has now been 1hour and 45 minutes and have to speak to anyone still. Very disappointed and if you employer also uses them I would complain because these ridiculous waits is completely unacceptable. read more

I think people from BBB should have a look at all customers' complain. If I can, I will give them -1. I'm not sure why this company try to prevent you from reimbursing your medical cost from your own FSA account. Even I paid hospital and dental clinic directly, they still ask for receipts. very very annoying. I guess there must be some reasons they practice like this way. Last time, I bought some first aid stuff after a small surgery and they even ask me to get doctor's prescription. My own company's plan never work like this way. I tried calling multiple times but was not able to get through due to long wait times. I tried emailing before, but did not get a response.The website says that there are letters attached in the messaging center, but I cannot see any attachments. Like others, I get a request for receipts for every single purchase on the card, and when I provide receipts, I always get a 2nd request for another receipt. I don't understand why this happening especially for smaller charges of $30.00 or less. The medical offices where the purchases were made are clearly labeled in their titles. I spend so much time tracking itemized bills for small purchases. It's not worth it to have a FSA card for all of the hassle. I was told in the past that it's because I have a different insurance than my employer and the copays do not match what they expect for my organization. That is an absurd excuse. I was also told a purchase from a clinic that is part of a health system/hospital requires an ICD code so they can make sure I wasn't shopping at the gift shop or cafeteria. The clinic was listed on the receipt! The customer service is poor, and I do not recommend them. read more

Discovery benefits has the worst customer service department I've ever experienced. I have to turned in multiple different versions of the same receipt for them to approve and even after submitting 4 different version of the same receipt do they suspend my card. I have ended up just paying out of pocket for most of my expenses this year so I don't have to deal with them. They are the absolute worst. I can only hope that my employer changes companies next year. read more

This company is awful, I thought maybe it was just me, but after reading the reviews I realize this is just a terrible company. My daughter was hospitalized for a week at the beginning of the year clearly a lot of medical expenses were incurred, but alas I have my trusty FSA for medical expenses for this purpose. Little did I know I'd spend the rest of the year fighting with them to use my own money to pay these expenses. I don't know if this company profits on the left over funds at the end of the year or what motivation they have for continually making things beyond difficult. Have had an FSA account of sorts for years, never have I met a company more difficult to work with. We had to get on Cobra for 1 month while I was inbetween jobs and Discovery Benefits was the admin. Not 1 but 2 times in one month they randomly canceled my benefits completely or updated the effective date or expiration date incorrectly. The only way I found out was because my wife who just had our baby was being told at her postpartum appts that we did not have insurance and had to pay out of pocket. So we either rescheduled or paid out of pocket to keep the appt. When I called Discovery Benefits they couldn't figure out the issue at first then said there was a system update that canceled my insurance. No one told me or had any clue why it happened. I had to resubmit 12 claims through insurance, reschedule multiple appts for my wife and new born etc. A complete nightmare. When I ask to talk to a manger I was told well the manager can't really do anything but sure. So I talked to a manager who was apologetic but didn't really understand what kind of night mare time and money wise I was living. When asked what he could do for me I said, reimbursement for this nightmare your company is causing me. Told him about how my wife and I were spending up to 5 hours per week refilling claims, rescheduling appts, time in the phone with them and the health care company and going to appts. I said I would like 10% of the $1,800 I paid for 1 month of healthcare, he said we won't do that sorry. Well 3 weeks after that conversation it had happened AGAIN! My healthprovider called and said that I have no insurance for that 1 month and they won't process claims. This is the absolute worse! Once again I have to refill the claims from that month and make sure for that month it shows we have insurance. read more

I have had Discovery Benefits for almost 4 years and have not had any issues with them reimbursing for covered services. On October 1st of this year, our organization was taken over by another organization. I had an optical appointment on October 1st and was told my flexible spending card declined. I contacted Discovery Benefits and was told the benefits expired on September 30th. I was under the impression that my benefits would be current until 12/31/20. Due to the purchase of our organization, the benefits were terminated without my knowledge and I lost $624.00! The lady on the telephone told me "That is always how we have done it". I had no idea they would terminate my account on that date and feel that a letter or some form of communication should have been made to me. Now I am out $624.00. When I requested a supervisor to see about an appeal due to the circumstances, she told me I had no options. She was absolutely horrible! I would NOT recommend this company to anyone due to this awful experience and the awful customer service. read more

I have to agree with everyone else. These people are HORRIBLE!! Ive called and held for 1 hour and had to give up with no answer twice. Ive emailed as they suggest only to be shot back a form email about submitting receipts, which wasn't even my issue. I emailed again asking not to get another form email only to get another with the same email and then finally a return email 1 yes 1 month later!! My account has been put on hold several times for "additional receipts" and have had to go through the embarrassment of being told my card is declined. They were not told by me to wait to take their money, but yet I have to wait for my money. I refuse to use them again. BEWARE OF WHAT YOUR GETTING YOURSELF IN FOR!!! read more

This company is so frustrating to deal with. They deny everything and request so much extra information. I have never worked with a company that provides FSA benefits that denies claims like one does. After submitting all of the requested documentation they give a new reason for denying the claim. Trying to talk with customer service is awful. After waiting on hold for 45 minutes you speak who someone who says "they don't handle this account" and they "transfer" you but actually disconnect you. So you have to call back and proceed through the entire experience again. When an actual person answers who says they can help you they don't actually answer YOUR question for YOUR situation they just recite a script. I don't think they are actually empowered to help people, just to continue denying claims and making people more aggravated. I truly feel sorry for their employees. There should also be a disclaimer on their website and any information they provide to employers that they do not work with small businesses. They only support large companies like AMAZON and WALMART. If you try picking up an ELIGIBLE item from your local pharmacy you might as well just pay for that item out of pocket because they are NEVER approving that claim. read more

Discovery Benefits ended our Cobra Health Insurance without any notice and without any reminders that our payments were due. When I logged onto their app, I saw they had sent one letter after Cobra was already terminated and had sent it to old addresses where we do not even live anymore. My husband and I are healthcare providers and have been working through the COVID-19 pandemic. We also have 3 children and now all of us are without health insurance. We were willing to pay the premium in full when we realized we missed it however they are unwilling to accept it at this time. The worker we had spoke with was not helpful and just kept repeating the same line over and over again. I feel defeated and on the verge of tears- they were not willing to work with healthcare workers during a pandemic and cancel a family of 5 without any kind of notice. Will never use this company again, and had I known that this would be the outcome, I would have chosen to use the Affordable Healthcare Act insurance months ago. read more

Worst customer service I have ever dealt with. They say all the right things but they do not take care of the underlying problem. They somehow cancelled my health insurance on Jan. 1, 2020. I was on autopay and payment was taken but my health insurance was cancelled. Of course I had a medical issue in early January and my Doctor would barely let me in to see him, I could not afford the medications prescribed without insurance and the specialist I was referred to would not see me without payment in full or until my insurance was cleared up. I called several times and each time they said they were taking care of it. I have gone without medical services and prescriptions for 5 days. Despite repeated phone calls and being in pain and needing services, nothing happened. When it became urgent for me to get my prescription filled today, I called them multiple times and they would not get a supervisor on the phone with me. They said the issue had been taken care of but of course my Dr. and Pharmacist tell me my insurance shows up as cancelled. It has been nearly a week now and I still cannot Discovery Benefits to make a simple phone call to United Healthcare and let them know my insurance is in tact and to reinstate my insurance. I hope these people get what they deserve for being the sadists they are. read more

This is the worst flexible spending account management company I have used in over 35 years. I submitted a claim for a dental visit. It required documentation which showed that the total bill was $280. Our portion was $154. The insurance company paid $23 for work done as preparation for a root canal. Then the insurance company suggested that we owe $120. I have NEVER in 35 years in 6 different states every paid the "suggested" price for any medical service. It has always seemed to be more. Now Discovery is denying my claim to use my money to pay my dental bill. I have spent time with their customer service who they give little to no training and who told me exactly what I can read. They can't tell me any names of management I can speak with. I don't think they are worried about a federal audit, I think they are interested in interest return on the money they hold and forfeiture of funds at the end of the year to fund their bottom line. read more

This is the worst company of all time to work with for benefits. My employer did not use them until it was time for COBRA coverage. I paid the premium for three months and then signed up for recurring payments so I wouldn't have to worry about it. (Not to mention the $20 convenience fee, what a joke.) I checked back on the website once I didn't see anything get drafted out of my account and found out that although I signed up for it, they have a cut off date that is not mentioned anywhere on their website or when you sign up for recurring payments. Because I entered the recurring payment request after this phantom cut off date, according to the rep, it wouldn't pull until two months later. I had missed the grace period for that month and because of it, got kicked out of COBRA. When I called to contest this, because it was literally not my fault, they told me I was sheer out of luck. Trying to talk to a manager was a 48 hour ordeal and didn't help whatsoever. They stated that once you missed the grace period there is nothing they can do. If I was someone who relied severely on this coverage I can't even imagine what would have happened. Also, although I paid for coverage for three months, it looks like the insurance company never received info for COBRA coverage so my orthodontics claims for those three months that I paid for were also denied. This company is a scam! My boyfriend's company also uses them for their FSA and I told him to stay away from this company because of what I went through. Everyone should beware of this company. I can see how much more this company is worse because I am now in COBRA with Wageworks, and they have been so much more helpful. For instance, my employer did not send the COBRA coverage info for my FSA, and although it was outside of the original grace period, they were able to add on the FSA coverage once it was sorted out. I have no idea how this company is in business, and I am now thinking of legal action against this company. read more

It has been a nightmare dealing with Discovery Benefits which I have had insurance coverage with for Cigna dental and vision. I have made my payments each month on time via automatic payments. After scheduling dental appointments, I learned that Discovery Benefits never activated my coverage and then later after activating one month sent termination notices to Cigna which cancelled my coverage. After several phone calls and staying on lengthy holds, the issue appeared to be resolved in December 2019. Well that was temporary. When I checked with Cigna today, I learned that Discovery Benefits terminated my coverage again for dental in December and for vision in January. I called Discovery Benefits again and was placed on hold for over 30 minutes before speaking to a representative who checked and confirmed my payments were up to date. She said it will take a few days to resolve. I figured it's best to switch to another insurance company since this keeps happening. But to do so, I need to complete the online termination form which is non-operational. When you click on it, it won't open. I mentioned this to the representative who said she would email me the form. I still haven't received it. Discovery Benefits accepts your payments but doesn't activate or keep active the coverage you paid for. This could be fraud. I am checking into what options I have. read more

I wish I could give Discovery Benefits 0 stars. I have been using FSA accounts for over 10 years with 5 other different companies and I have never had as many issues as I do with discovery benefits. Every single purchase requires a receipt and half the time the receipts get rejected because there is not enough information that they want. Once a receipt gets rejected they freeze your card and you can no longer use it until you resolve the issue or pay it back. I uploaded multiple receipts for a claim that was denied and called the number and had to wait over 15 minutes to speak to someone. At that point the woman was rude and just kept telling me to pay it back and kept telling me that until I pay it back I can't use my card. I kept saying I will continue to upload receipts and work with you to get this claim paid since everything on the claim is FSA eligible. She continued to "just to let you know you can't use your card. So just pay it back and then you can use your card again" I continued to tell her I wasn't paying it back and will work to get the documentation I need to get it covered. Thanks for no help and just trying to force me to pay it back. "Its only $40 and you'll get to reuse it." Seriously I put money in the FSA so I don't have to deal with this. Very unhappy about my company's switch to discovery benefits. Did I mention there were issues were our funds weren't available until Februray even though they were supposed to be first of year. Your overall one star rating describes your company perfectly. You should really work on your customer service and efficiency. read more

If it was possible to give a negative star rating I would. This company does not work well the employee directly. Their customer service over the phone is horrible. And if they deny a claim, good luck getting it reversed even if you have the proper documentation. Speaking of the required documentation, that requirement seems to be a moving target as well, they'll say they need a certain type of receipt, then after you submit it, they'll turn around and deny your claim again and state they need something different. It's like they do their best to try and keep YOUR money hostage. If you are in the right, don't be afraid to challenge them. Thank God, my employer fired them and has moved on to a new company. Just wish they would close out the final claim that has been a back and forth argument for 3 months now. It would be so much better if you just managed your own funds and didn't have to deal with them. If you are using them as an employer for your employees, shame on you, you are not taking care of the employees, and you should be looking elsewhere for this type of service. If you are stuck using these guys, plan on a lot of extra time to deal with them and a lot of claim denial letters. They do not want to let you use your own money and will fight you every step of the way. read more

Where to begin? I have had the misfortune of dealing with Discovery Benefits for about 5 years, even though my husband has switched jobs twice in that time. Each time I think that at least I won't have to deal with Discovery Benefits again and then and then about saddened to learn that the new companies use them to. I have had numerous issues over the years, such as their not accepting itemized receipts from medical offices as appropriate documentation and then just suspending the account. Today, this is the issue I am dealing with: I have been trying to log in to my online account since, once again, Discovery Benefits has randomly decided to suspend the account. The online passwords expire every 3 months, but they do not notify you of this or provide a new password; you simply get an error message that you've entered the wrong password. I used the link to create a new password. It might have worked except that then Discovery Benefits did not recognize the (correct) answers to the security questions. After a few times of entering the correct answers to security questions and their not recognizing it, they lock you out. I called customer service and waited 30 minutes on hold to speak to a representative. Finally she told me that I can't do anything with the online account because I'm not the primary member. This is despite the fact they have a authorized representative form on filed that my husband submitted several months ago the last time this happened. When I asked to speak to a supervisor, I was told that there was none available but that I could get a call in 24 hours. I didn't feel like I should have to wait 24 hours to get an issue resolved that I'd already spent an hour on and which should have been a complete non issue. I also submitted a complaint to the Better Business Bureau about them a few years ago. They lied and told the BBB that they had resolved the issue when they hadn't actually done anything. I have had bad experiences with businesses before but this is the first business that has done that. read more

This is my last year with this company but be careful of another scam they use to get your $$. Any unused balance from the prior year will be used first and will not expire/forfeit until March 1st of the next year.....or so you thought.... I had a couple of hundred unused from last year so I threw in another couple to ride out everything, exhaust my funds and never do business with Discovery Benefits again. Imagine my surprise when my card was declined after spending only $200. This years $200!! They were not drawing on last years balance at all. It appears to be stuck in some sort of limbo. They said they would fix it but I have better chances of winning the lottery. Still not fixed. I have been playing the submit/denial game for a couple of months now. Had my balance been more or had I not checked my account you can bet they would have happily forfeited last years left over $$ to their own pockets. A couple of warnings here.....DO NOT do business with Discovery Benefits first and foremost. AND if you do have to use them check your account often because they will change the rules to benefit them. Keep in mind they do not make money off of the percentage from you using your debit card. They make it from forfeited funds where no service is provided. read more

Discovery Benefits administers my former employer's COBRA plan. I enrolled in COBRA in July 2018, at which time I elected automatic payments on my account. After noticing that February's payment was not deducted from my bank account, I logged into Discovery's portal to find that my account has been terminated and I am now unable to make a manual payment on my account. I was never notified via email, mail, or phone that my automatic payment was not processed, nor was I notified that my medical and dental benefits have been terminated. I called them and asked to check, they mentioned that account has been terminated because of non payment. My auto debit did pay the amount but the increased amount in dental plan was due. Now they are saying that, they can not do anything about it. How can you terminate an account without letting customers know. Atleast call them or email them which is a way to connect to the customers. Pathetic company and very rude customer care service. Is there a way to give them -ve points? read more

Discovery Benefits is terrible. Their reply emails are vague. The information they provide is unclear. They are hard to work with and they make submitting claims difficult. They do not explain clearly what is needed to activate your direct deposit account, which causes more hoops to jump through. Once a claim is approved, they make it difficult to actually pay the claim. They certainly do not make you feel like a valued customer. I have a DB FSA visa debit card to use for appointments, but the transactions are declined. I must prepay and then jump through many hoops for reimbursement. They hold my money that is directly deducted from paychecks that I need to use for legitimate medical expenses, yet they make it incredibly difficult to access MY funds. If you have Discovery Benefits through an employer you may be stuck with them, but if there are options, I would not recommend Discovery Benefits at all. If you are a company that uses Discovery Benefits, I'd recommend finding another company. There are other companies out there that service customers so much better and are not the cause of frustration. read more

This company is absolutely horrible. I submit claims for medical expenses and it clearly says doctor bills or hospitals bills put they deny my payments and constantly ask me to prove my payment was medical related. Their letter says "submit receipt" which I do and that gets denied, so I call them, and after much arguing, they says it has to be an EOB not a receipt so they can see the date of service. So than there letter should say "submit EOB" not "submit receipt." Even than they still deny my payments just because they can. Claiming my DOS was outside the coverage area, never mind the fact that money roles over into the next year and the payment was made within the rollover time frame. Why don't they actually call the customer and discuss the issues like a normal business. No such thing as customer satsification anymore. Smh!!! Just because I get this through my employer doesn't mean I have to go with this company and there are other medical FSA companies I can go with. Bye-bye! read more
