Oh wow -- O'Reilly Auto Parts in Santa Monica saved me serious time and money…read more I needed a battery replacement for my 2021 Subaru Crosstrek. A local shop quoted me over $677 (installed) for an Optima Red Top 35 AGM - Start/Stop battery (and the dealership was about the same for their Subaru private label). O'Reilly sold me the same battery for $280 plus tax ($314) -- and installed it for FREE (e.g., for simple, straightforward installs like mine). That's a savings of $228 on the battery and $100 on installation. Chris handled the install and he was great -- fast, careful, and clearly knew what he was doing. I tried to tip him and he politely refused, which says a lot about him. Everyone I spoke with on the phone and in-store was helpful and friendly. They did get a couple small details slightly off (the warranty length and the price was about $20 higher than quoted), but in the end I still paid far less than anywhere else and got excellent service! Highly recommend this location if you need a battery or honest, no-nonsense help.

Congratulations to Pep Boys for employing either the world's most confident liar or a "technician"…read morewho couldn't identify a run-flat tire if it rolled over his foot and introduced itself. Here's the story: my girlfriend comes in with a flat that any half-conscious human could have patched. Instead, Pep Boys' resident tire scholar declares it a run-flat (it wasn't), says run-flats can't be patched (also not how any of this works), and sells her a brand new tire. How generous. Fast forward to today. Another flat, same tire. We take it to American Tire, who informs us the ONLY run-flat on the car is, plot twist, the exact tire Pep Boys swapped in. The one they sold her. So either their guy was so bad at his job he diagnosed a regular tire as a run-flat and then installed an actual run-flat by accident, or he knew exactly what he was doing and saw a woman walk in alone and smelled commission. Either way, the options are scam or stupidity, and honestly neither one is a great pitch for a tire shop. Save your money, save your time, and go literally anywhere else. American Tire didn't try to sell us a submarine. Low bar, but Pep Boys limboed right under it.

The employee on the floor was actively turning customers away, stating that assistance would need to wait for the morning crew. This is unacceptable for a business that is open and operating during posted hours. When I requested help completing a split payment, the manager on duty refused to assist and claimed it could not be done mid transaction. Rather than offering a solution or restarting the transaction, I was met with a condescending tone and visible frustration, as if a basic request was an inconvenience. Both employees displayed a clear lack of effort, accountability, and willingness to perform even minimal job responsibilities. There was no attempt to problem-solve, no professionalism, and no regard for the customer experience. It was evident that the issue was not inability, but unwillingness. This reflects extremely poor leadership at the store level. If management is unwilling to assist customers with simple transactions or maintain a basic standard of service, it raises serious concerns about training, oversight, and overall store operations. I strongly recommend corporate review this location's staff performance and customer service standards. Experiences like this directly damage the brand and drive customers away.
