Prices are on the high side, although I purchased a Japanese Maple here shortly after I moved into my new home, and it has done very well. At this point, I would like to take most of the credit for that, but I have to attribute the successful start to Twin Pines. They sell live Christmas trees in the winter, though last year seemed to run out rather quickly. Again, they are pricey, but it is a fine option if you are unconcerned about that. Employees are friendly enough. You may not find anyone at the front desk or greenhouse when you first enter, but wander around long enough and you will spot somebody. I love nurseries, and when it is planting season I visit at least one most every weekend, but I never think to go here, even though it is basically across the street from my home, and that tells you everything you need to know.

Thousands of dollars now spent at Glovers each year due to my recommendation. Today I called to special order some flats of Lamium in the flower color I needed. They said they had 2 flats of the color I wanted in stock, so I went. I was genuinely shocked to find that the stock they referred me to was mostly or partially dead. How unprofessional is that to bring me out there for sickly product instead of letting me order something healthy? I only found four 4packs that didn't look dead or sick. When I went to check out I felt like I should pass along my experience to someone in charge. I requested a 50% discount on the only decent purple 4 packs I could find to offset my inconvenience of time and gas for making the trip based on what I was told they had. That was too demanding of a request by the logic of the manager. Told him I spend way too much money there to be treated like my years of loyalty don't matter. The manager pulled up my account and scoffed at the thousands I've spent, telling me that others spend more. Is this where we're at with Glovers? Are we only respecting the patronage of billionaires now? I told him I felt insulted by that, but he wearing his fighter hat and not his customer service hat, and literally told me he has no problem with the dead stock out there because people still buy them. Just wow. I feel like I'd be compromising my basic self-respect if I ever showed my face there ever again, so congratulations Glovers: you just lost a regular annual customer who was happy to spend thousands every single year (apparently an underwhelming dollar amount, as your manager says) because you could not admit a clear communication error, or discount a *teeny tiny* purchase as a gesture that you value me as a customer. Everything was riding on principle today. #FAIL. PS: I adore the cashier with long braids, and I've found every cashier to be nice and pleasant. I also have gratitude for the workers who have happily given the plants in my cart fresh water to ensure they didn't dry out while I shopped. Sad how one guy in charge with a chip on his shoulder can undo all those years of patronage.

We've purchased elsewhere before where the plants are root bound, root rot, or bad little critters, but the plants here are in amazing shape! When I found myself walking through the threshold between the Bambino and Cactus and Tropicals, I was pretty sure I'd entered into a Hallmark movie. It's another worldly. There are adorable displays all over-trinkets and little goodies to accompany your flowers and plants-and there are plenty of those! It looks quite tiny from the front, and while it is a little bigger once you get inside it's still pretty small. They have some perennials in a strip outside (I noticed coral bells, lupines, clematis, canna lilies, portulaca, and delphinium), but the majority of their plants are annuals. Inside you'll find maybe 20 or so varieties of annual flowers and some decorative grasses. I don't buy a lot of annuals so I didn't pay as much attention to them. They had a teeeeeeeny section of herbs, and then an okay selection of tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers and squash. Maybe 3-5 varieties of each type of vegetable. The quality was decent, but not amazing. The perennials seemed to be in the worst shape, although it really just looked like they needed a good watering. Customer service was kind of meh. I could only see two employees working. When I was ready to make my purchases I had to wait at the register for several minutes. One employee was outside, and the other was just kind of wandering around inside, but she didn't seem very concerned about checking if anyone needed help (and it wasn't clear if she actually worked there). When she finally made her way over she wasn't rude, but also not entirely friendly, either. This isn't a big deal for a business like this, but it is something to consider. They are definitely associated in some way with Quality Flowers & Plants off of 3300th S, which is about quadruple the size, at least, so I'd probably go there first. If you only need a few plants, however, this is certainly an option. Their prices are the lowest I've seen anywhere (and seem to be the same as Quality's), so if you aren't picky and just looking for the most bang for your buck they have enough options that you should be able to leave pretty pleased. I vacillated a bit on my rating, and while three stars isn't great, and I don't have any strong complaints, they definitely aren't a four star business. And really, it is pretty average, so in the end entirely appropriate.

I have to give lots of love for any kind of plant shop. I mean, these days when you can have a…read moreplant shipped to your house (as I was surprised to find on my porch last week!) it's hard to imagine all the love and care and curation and maintenance that goes into having a bunch of stuff in stock that can die. What a brave business to be in! My small collection of houseplants is growing, as are each individual plant. I found myself in need of a new container for a Blue Star Fern that has outgrown its current home, and so I thought hey, why not go see what I can find. What I was actually searching for was a simple nursery container, as I have a lovely decorative outer container, but they do sell quite the variety of decorative containers. From the simple terra cotta to the more fancy glazed, to cement (love!) and some pretty massive ones out back. They have glass containers for air plants, and some way way way cool glass ones that are made by blowing glass onto driftwood or other wood, and the glass actually forms a custom fit onto the wood. Holla atcha terrarium peeps! Sadly, they not have nursery containers. Or at least they did not sell them--I spied them on the bench, but apparently they're not for sale. It's a tiny space so you're not going to get much variety, especially of any size. Pack in a few mature monstera or fiddle leaf figs and suddenly it's a forest, so while there are some lovely little succulents, you don't get a ton of different house plants. I was also surprised to see so many artificial plants. They advertise commercial plants, so perhaps that's why? Easier to maintain, for sure! Outside there are a few outdoor plants, but it's not like a nursery where you might go to grab all of your bedding plants or annuals for the year. It was interesting to see the style. There are some containers or hanging containers, or tiered setups that are on the very edge of what's what right now. Air plants. Succulents. Someone is doing their homework. But there are also some very old school things, and the "it plants" were conspicuously absent. Online, everyone is all hot and bothered over raven ZZ plants, or pink dalmation aglaomena, or pink *anything*, and here they are all absent, and we have the always venerable pothos and sansevieria. It's like there are two forces at play making orders. I suppose this is the reality of owning a plant shop, balancing what is known and solid and dependable for business, and what is trendy and drives traffic when you hit it right. Worth a visit to see what strikes your fancy, and packed full of really large containers in the back. Other shops may have more variety, but every plant shop has its own charm and is full of discoveries waiting to happen.
