Decent auction house. I've purchased from them several times and the experience is usually the same. Online and buying processes are good but the puck up and customer service are terrible. If you want attitude and treated with disrespect then this is the place to be. If you want an uptight rude and entitled customer service be sure to ask for Kate as she will deliver on all above .... She clearly is not happy as she's likes to try and be the boss of everyone .... She's has an attitude on email and on the phone, the other reviews I see feel the same . She's had my transport guys details to follow up on collection but she chooses not to and sends me a snippy email followed by a call 4 mins after the email to tell me what she's just emailed me .... Clearly enjoys being a Karen . I had an issue with an ex employee a few years ago bidding unauthorized by myself which I explained at the time .... And Kate clearly loves to hang on to a resentment ..... "Karen" needs to check herself and calm down . It's only old furniture lady ..... read more

Like SO MANY others, my experience seemed ok... UNTIL I ENCOUNTERED A PROBLEM. My issue was with their "in-house" shipper -- who quoted the wrong size for the box HE packed (!!) ... and then expected ME to assume the full cost for his mistake. When I called the auction house office to try to work out the problem, the receptionist refused to pass my call to the owners and insisted she'd handle it (or maybe she was the owner's wife???). She NEVER stopped talking long enough even to hear the issue, so I finally just hung up. WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT! There are SO many friendly and honest auction houses and shippers! Why deal with one that will FIGHT YOU... when even the slightest problem emerges? Prospective bidders: it's easy to see the consistent pattern in the feedback! Beware! read more

I purchased a lot from the December 13th 'Estate Antiques, Mid-Century, Fine-Art, & Decor Discovery Auction.' My experience across the board was exceptional. Pre and post-auction email communications with Wayne and Lydia were handled quickly and accurately. Arrangements for shipping the item to Ohio were easy to set up; including very fast updating of the invoice to reflect the associated charges. Once my check was received by mail from Westport, my item was packed and shipped within a few days and arrived at my home within three days. The item was exactly as described and the packaging was excellent. I would purchase from Westport again. read more

I am a frequent on Live Auction Bidder. This is the Worst Experience I have ever had. All my items descriptions were wrong...new listed as vintage or antique . Items received broken and then when I telephoned...a young man told me tough! I sent back the earrings described as antique, in actuality were brand new, for a refund and told no way in hell. We will have them repaired and sent back which took another 8 weeks, You have a lot of Options for fine Auction experiences...Do not waste your time or money with these people. read more

Katie and Greg were able to answer any questions I had about my purchases. Two gentlemen even offered to help me carry my items to my car. Both items were exactly as described online. I bought a really sweet marble side table with roses that I just love, but be careful - it was incorrectly listed as pietra dura. It is not pietra dura (inlaid marble) it is hand painted on marble and has a resin finish. BIG value difference, and it's tough to tell via the photos, but in person - it's obvious. I live clear across the country in California and it arrived after three weeks, and a few weeks later I sent them a message it was incorrectly listed. I wasn't expecting anything - just sending them a note - and I got a very summary reply that they consider the case closed due to the lateness of the issue. There was no apology or attempt at an explanation. I found that odd. I've been a auction goer for 20 years and had a retail store in a Santa Monica for 18 and the quality of the descriptions when you are buying online is important. I'm not sure who at Westport is doing the assessments and descriptions but there needs to be a little more oversight. read more

Being new to the phone app for auctions, I mistakenly bid on and won a painting. When I realized my mistake and contacted the auction house directly, I was told I would have to purchase the item regardless. I asked for a payment plan since it was an unexpected expense and I am a small business owner, seeing as they told me it was a non negotiable purchase. The phone call escalated, Kate the owner called me rude, inferred I knew how the app worked based on my history (which was incorrect) when it was my first experience and, implied I had buyer's remorse and was not being honest, I asked her to look at my saved history on the site, this painting is not my aesthetic. With her unwillingness to bend on the accidental purchase, I asked her to set up a payment plan, I had two witnesses to the conversation. She was so angry I put my office manager on the phone to try to be in solution and set up the payment plan. When she tried to be thorough regarding the details of payment to avoid any further error, the Owner Kate was rude and impatient with her, as well as reluctant to give her last name though she identified herself as the owner of the company, said she was busy, and subsequently hung up the phone on her. Later she cancelled both orders; including the item I had actually wanted to buy. I looked up yelp reviews of the business and found there were other customers who had similarly rude dealings with Kate Worrell her staff, and her auction house. I also see defensive responses from the auction house to any criticisms posted on yelp. read more

Avoid at any cost. The worst experience ever. I had shipped the item by their recommended shipper (UPS Store #5773). I paid 140 USD for shipping to Europe and the Item arrived completely damaged. The shipper has refused any liability. DHL they have used offered compesation 12 USD. Do you think I have received any money from UPS Store? Forget it. They refused to pay any compensation and stopped communication. Support from Westport auction? In no way, they have told me that its my fault, that I havent insured the item properly. Avoid business with Westport and UPS Store 5773. Both are liars. read more
