A free city of Houston run recycling center where you can recycle your e-waste for free. The first time I did it they ask for an ID to check if I was a resident of Houston, but the second time they did not ask for as ID and proceeded to take my e-waste box from the trunk. Got angry the other day and gave one star because the gate was closed at 4:30 when supposedly they close at 5.. Went today early and was attended right away from nice gentlemen. Fast and easy was the name of the game the day I went to the recycling center. I went on a Tuesday and everything ran so smoothly. It seemed like all of the attendants had a role to do and they followed their responsibilities as expected. Kudos to everyone working there! I ride my bike here to do my recycling which is 10 minutes from where I live. I have to say it's definitely worth the travel and I like the fact they have a cloth donation box where you can some clothes. read more

Westpark Recycling Center has been on my bookmark for longest time. I never thought it was so close from Chinatown to here. I used to recycle my PETE, cans and glass bottles at Target. But since CoVid19 craziness going on, they took away my ability to recycle at my convenience. So I have to look for ways to continue practicing environmental conscious mind. This was my first time here. It looked so cramped compared to Southwest site. I was overwhelmed with tons of bins and signs on the ground level. I couldn't finish reading them. Then, I saw a ramp with a couple of guys waving at me. Ok. So, I guess them want me to drive up the ramp. "Don't get out of your car!" Oh excuse me. But I didn't know it was touchless service. I had to get out of my car with my mask, of course, because I don't want people to see my messy trunk like I live in my car. I didn't clearly label which bag was for recycling. I was told they check ID for residential address when they take paints, electronics and something (can't remember because I felt rushed). There was a sign says "no cell phone" that got me wondering if they meant no photography. Oh well. I'll bring more stuff next time and I'll remember those signs. Visited this on a Saturday in the late afternoon for the first time. It's a really interesting drive through and the line does go out onto the street. It does move steadily but I still suggest you go when you're not in a time crunch. There are signs everywhere telling you what's accepted but most of them are either too far away for human eyes due to small font or partially obscured by the many items to be recycled. They accept all sorts of things like electronics and glass as well as food grade styrofoam, which was the main reason we went. If you're in doubt, just ask when you give them the recyclables and they'll tell you. I found them pretty nice and helpful. I just wish the signs were more obvious - if you have signs, please make sure they're easy to read. All in all, pleased with my first experience and will be back once our styrofoam containers build up more for our next visit! read more

No heavy lifting involved! This place is AWESOME! When I used to live near here, I would drive through at least 2-3 times a month. Now, I load my stuff up and bring it here whenever I know I'll be in the area. This is a drive-through recycling center. They do ALL the heavy lifting! So, ladies, get your strong men to load up the SUV and drive it over to the Westpark recycling center, because the people there will lift and remove it all! Drive through and they do everything! Then you drive out onto the 59 feeder near Chimney Rock. What a wonderful service! They have a drive through to pick up your recycling items. On the weekends it gets pretty busy and you have to wait in line but it moves. I've only been here a few times and they do have bins for clothes to donate also. One day I came and they refused to take my items because I didn't separate them. They took my bags and then put them back in my car. =/ It wasn't busy that day I was the one or two car that drove in during the time. The lady in charge actually had to call workers to come to my car as I waited. I had about 5 bags of plastics, paper, and aluminum. I told them they never asked me or said that when I came on the weekend. And they lady said they probably just trashed your items. Like really you guys don't do further separating? Whatevs. She said check the website. I read the site and it didn't say it was MANDATORY that all items be separated. It did say it would make things easier. I guess it's easier to not take items because you don't want to separate it. read more

Yas! Love this recycling center, and love that it just so happens to be the closest one to me! So, so, so convenient and just plain awesome. I had been saving up my cardboard (for one trip) and once I finally got an off day, loaded my car up and went by on a Saturday morning. Super quick & easy. There wasn't anyone there, but me and they had maybe 8 employees on site. I popped my trunk open and 4 people came to my trunk, all grabbing something and closed it. All done! I'm happy. read more

I come here around once a week. I have all my recyclables sorted out by type when I get there. I have plastic bins that are returned to me after they put the plastic, glass, aluminum and paper in the receptacles. The drive-thru is quite efficient and I'm glad that this location is convenient for me to do something for our environment. The entrance is off of Westpark, just east of Renwick. You exit on 59's feeder road just west of Chimney Rock. They take computers and old electronics too. read more

Just my luck - the cut off line for glass recycling bins in my hood is just a few houses away. And now that my usual recycling center is officially closed, I gotta take my glass elsewhere. I found Westpark Recycling on Yelp (of course), and it was sooo freaking easy. I should've taken my glass there years ago. You pull up, turn off your car, and a team of really friendly people clear out your car. Off you go. I was in and out within MINUTES. You can't really beat the service here and this was definitely a highlight of my old neighborhood. As someone who prides himself on being a responsible global citizen, recycling is something I feel obligated to do. As has been noted in other reviews, this places is open six days a week and you simply load your stuff (go to their website to verify what they will and won't take) and you drive-thru and they unload all the recyclables for you. There is normally an army of workers (most of them are doing community service of some sort) and the long-term managers are friendly and have gotten to know me over the years, even asking me about my dog. It is a drive thru facility where you bring all your recycled material to this place and someone will remove all your junk from your vehicle. This place recycles tires!!! Car batteries, all electronics (working or non-working,) used motor oil & filter, latex paint, antifreeze, plastics (jugs, bottles, containers,) aluminum cans, tin cans (canned food,) papers, and glass bottles. I may have missed something. =P Call them at (713) 668-9551 to find out what they recycle. Quit being a litter bug! Dump your junk at this place and make your city a better looking place! The Manager, the Hispanic guy that has been there forever, told me that he couldn't dump my used motor oil yesterday because he didn't have enough help. It does take a few minutes. I wasn't going to carry the oil back home so I left my reusable containers there. I hope they are there when I go back. read more

Staff are usually pretty friendly and helpful. Occasionally there's a grouchy person but, hey, that's life! I take all my recyclables here since my community is served by a private trash service that doesn't take recycling. The only real complaint I have is that the website is deceiving as to what they accept/don't accept. For instance, on the website it says "Oil". I brought a big container of cooking oil and they said "nope, we don't take that". Also, one employee recently told me they could only accept "food plastics". In other words, no cleaning products, laundry detergent bottles, etc. Not sure what I can do with those other than trash them. read more

This is a drive thru recycling place which is conveniently located off the highway. They take cardboard, styrofoam, paper, and old electronics. We have been taking our recycling here for years, everyone is always helpful and polite, but last Thursday they broke the ceiling. My husband took our recycling and turned his engine off, a rule and when he tried to turn it on it was dead as a door nail. They tried to jump his battery to no avail. The crew pushed his car down to the parking lot, allowed him to use the phone to call for help(he will not carry a cell phone) and were so very kind to him. The facility is ok but the regular staff is very unfriendly. A simple "you are welcome"after we say "thank you" goes a long way. They need serious customer service training. The new rule about cardboard makes elderly customers have to get out of their car throw cardboard in a big dumpster and drive around the block to get back in line. They will even leave one small cardboard box in your car. All they have to do is walk over and put in the bin for you. Really wish we had options but do not. read more

Well, dear reader, bring it all over here for a quick way to make it all disappear. As Melissa M noted in her review, the facility is a drive-through one: Pull in, pop the trunk, and the city workers will lift and separate all of your stuff for free. (But, it would be courteous to sort some of it since all you had to do is drive it over.) They do their work anonymous and confidential with no questions or proof of residency asked. I'd avoid the first business day after holidays and, like Edward W said, avoid the late afternoon crush. Mid-mornings and afternoons are great. I used this service to recycle old computers and monitors from my office to avoid having it end up in the landfill. I'm not sure who they sell all of the scrap to but I'm hoping it is helping turn a profit for the City. Whether you're unsure or not if this place takes what you think may be recyclable, bring it anyways to see if they will take it - if you have the time. I brought in miscellaneous stuff - batteries, glass, paint cans, spray paint, cardboard, and electronic stuff. I can't remember what they actually took, but for the things they didn't they offered suggestions on where you can take it or what you can do with it. For sure, they do not take batteries - take that to Batteries Plus Bulbs. If you have cardboard only, you don't have to drive through the westpark recycling entrance but pull up next to the big recycling bins on the side and throw them in yourself. When you pull up through the entrance, they will ask you to turn off your vehicle and assist you with your recyclable. There are plenty of people to help you, which I appreciated, and I've only had friendly encounters. read more

I saw a lot of mixed reviews about this place so I was eager to get the low down myself. First of all, the number listed on yelp is not their direct number. I called and spoke with someone and after being on hold for a little over five minutes I was able to retrieve it. I edited the yelp info today so it may not be up yet. That number is 713-668-9551 I called the number above and spoke to a man on the phone who seemed decent. When I arrived there was a man waving me in the garage who didn't seem pleasant. Pretty sure that was the guy with whom I spoke. I let him be as I could see he was not in a happy place. Now I think you can just drive through and they will separate everything for you, but I wanted to help just so I could get the process first hand. I got out of my car and popped the trunk and began sorting with them. The girls were very nice and I had asked one of them if they sold reusable recycling bins, as my boxes were getting kind of nasty. She said no, but then another man, who was also a bit rough around the edges said, "Go git one of dem and give it to'em" to the girl. She nodded. I said thank you to the man and he didn't really acknowledge me, he just went on with his own business. There isn't much recycling game in town so either way I was happy to have found this place and have come out with another plastic bin, easily worth 5-10 dollars. I've been taking stuff here for years. Newspapers, plastic, cardboard, glass, cans...even my dead old computer. They take paint and oil and other hazardous waste things but I've never had any of that to drop off. Make sure your stuff is clean...no food left in the plastic or cans. And if you can sort it you'll find things go much faster. I sort stuff into paper or plastic grocery bags and toss it in the bed of the truck. I'm in and out in 4 or 5 minutes on average. They don't take all plastic...just the heavier gage items like water bottles and milk jugs. They won't throw your trash away if it's something they don't take. But after a trip or two you'll know what is recyclable and what's trash. They take Christmas trees at the holidays too. Pull in on the Westpark side and up the ramp. They usually have enough employees to get your items out of your vehicle quickly. I've been going long enough to have become friendly with a couple employees who have been there a while. We catch upon family and jobs and vacations when they aren't real busy. They aren't open on Sunday or holidays. It is a city facility. So if government offices are closed you can bet this place is too. And don't mind the smell from the garbage collection place next door. In the summer it can whaff all the way across 59. Hold your nose for a few minutes to do your part to save the Earth. read more

The Westpark recycling center is the biggest waste of time for waste disposal of recyclable items. The website says that they recycle empty aerosol cans, electronics, etc. The last two times I have gone there to recycle these types of items, they say they do not take them. I am fed up with the lazy, unhelpful people at this "recycling" center. It is obvious they do not want to work. I had to attempt to unload my car only to have them tell me they do not take the items the website says they do take. So all the recyclables are now going to a waste disposal site via city trash trucks. The city needs to teach their lazy employees to read their purpose and accept the items their location is saying they take. I will not return to this location in an attempt to recycle. My rating is absolute zero for this center. read more
