It was my first time at this LifeLabs location. There is plenty of onsite parking that is free, which is a nice change from some of the other LifeLabs locations in the west Toronto area. The LifeLabs is located in the basement. There are elevators for people with mobility issues, or you can use a short flight of stairs. The receptionists were efficient at checking people in. They have a board showing wait times and whether people have pre-booked appointments. When I arrived a few minutes before my appointment, the wait time was 14 minutes. There is a small waiting room within the office, and a handful chairs outside in the hallway. I can see how it would get crowded very fast. The cubicles are pretty open and people in the waiting area can definitely see into them, so keep that in mind. I was called quickly and the person taking my blood was quick at her job. I was in and out in a few minutes.

About 10 years ago, I was being 'a boy' and rough housing with some pals and fell a certain way causing a full posterior dislocation of my left shoulder (in lay-mans terms, I popped my shoulder 100% out of the socket on impact to the back before it fell down). I don't need to describe the pain I went through in the moments, days and weeks that followed. I had physio at the time to strengthen and correct the injury as best as I possibly could. Thankfully, unlike many other people who've done the same, I've never re-injured it. Touch wood. However, I've I gotten older, I've begun to suffer from chronic ongoing aches and pains in the same shoulder as well as tingling in my fingers and occasional shooting pains, equally not fun. I ended up getting a referral to West Park to have some physio done on my shoulder to see what could be done. After an $80 initial assessment I was put through weekly exercise and ultrasound treatments to help fix the scar tissue that had built up and strengthen the are. After about 10 treatments, I was happy with my progress and took to continuing my exercise at home. It's been about 4-5 months since my last session and while I still get occasional moments of discomfort, which given my injury is expected, the overall condition of my shoulder is much better than before. Pro-tip: if you're considering physio, understand that doing your assigned exercises as often as prescribed is as important as taking antibiotics as directed when you're sick. My mother was a patient at Runnymede Healthcare Centre this past summer. While she was excited to…read morehave her rehabilitation at this state-of-the-art facility, she encountered less than standard care with her personal hygiene needs. She developed a bedsore, became ill and was transferred back to hospital. While the excellent care provided in Hospital healed her infection, and started to heal her bedsore, she decided to enter into palliative care. She was able to transition to her home to spend her last days amongst those she loved. Our advice is for the family to be questioning, present as much as possible and insist on being given the specific medical information about their loved one's health. The nursing staff for the most part is excellent, as are the O.T./PT.'s. Clearly there was a lapse in patient observations being documented, communicated and acted upon.

Unfortunately, I didn't have the good idea to photograph the panel where the staff changed their names every day and I feel embarrassed about that. I only remember the names of the physiotherapists, Shalini and Arjun, with whom I felt a special connection and to whom I greatly appreciate their help. But in fact, I got excellent treatment from all the staff at the center, including nurses, support workers, cleaning and kitchen staff. The doctor who took care of my health came to see me and answered questions every time I asked to see her. And the administration lady was also present to assist me. I have nothing but words of gratitude for the entire team at this incredible health center. For obvious reasons, I would not like to have to be hospitalized again, but as a Latin lady, I can only tell you that I will always carry you in my heart.
