They are making me requalify for a exsisting mortgage. I currently have mortgage at 2.99 and because it is up for renewal and l now make less money they are raising my rate to 4.59. I have been with this bank for 5 years and never missed a payment. It is mandatory to pass a stress test when applying for a new mortgage but not an exsisting one.They are simply doing this because they know l wont be able to get a new mortgage elsewhere with the new laws. They don't care about there members at all.l have talked to other lenders and they can't believe how Westminster savings are treating me. I was told if l stayed with the Royal bank l would of been getting the going rate.l recommend you stay away from this bank because they are the only one's doing this. I have banked with a few banks in town, and this Credit Union was my first and longest. Most certainly also my least enjoyed. The interface between staff and customer is robotic, there is very little humanized flexibility, and they generally act as if the customer is an ingrate who should be happy they are allowed to bank at all. Their credit card services are not worth bothering with, my loan was embarrassing to acquire since the employee could not manage the paperwork and denied me having incorrectly entered my earnings, and then acted like I was just too poor. I thought "Credit Union" was a community building enterprise, but I have learned that it is just another bank with jaded employees and much much stuffier to deal with than every other bank I have experienced in the area. read more

I have been a customer for years and always liked Westminster Savings. Now unfortunately ever since their merger it seems like their hours are shorter it's impossible to get anybody on the phone and they have a new telephone banking app which is impossible to use and I am now unable to pay any of my phone bills online. I could be searching for a new bank!! read more

It doesn't deserve even 1 star. I stopped by to open an account and was told there was no one to help, and had to make an appointment, which is understandable...however I was there with my husband talking to the customer service person for about 15 min , asking questions and not once where we told that to open an account for me or my 14 year old would require anything other than 2 pieces of ID. When the two of us showed up to open an account for him and one cheq /sav account for me I was then told that she'd need to perform a credit check....I was surprised 'because I have never been asked that anywhere else and I have and had accounts in so many different banks and cu's. After I agreed and waited about 5,10 min, I was told that my credit check didn't pass and I would not , neither would my son be able to open an account....I have never felt more stupid , I was actually shocked and didn't want to say anything in front of my son but before the credit was even checked when I asked why the heck do you need to do it , the only thing I was told it was to "protect the membership". WHATEVER that is...well let me tell you something....while Westminster savings may some out with strange reasoning I am not stupid and I know exactly what that is all about....I believe, once my credit was not good enough to sell me any additional loans, credit cards, overdrafts that I haven't asked for , you decide there's no making money on me therefore you're not interested. That's ok....I am quite ok with TD and just opened another account there, no questions asked and they will continue taking care of my investments as well.... If those are your practices how about you inform people of the credit check when they're setting an app...I have never seen worse customer service. read more

I had a join account with my father. It was done because he was going to a care home and someday his mind will go. One day I am not getting the monthly statement. I go to WSCU and find the account has been closed and a new account has been open in my fathers name. My father is in a wheelchair, has alzheimers so I cannot get a answer out of him. I tried a couple of times to get a answer from WSCU, but never did. read more

Wow, this bank is so focused on the wrong things. I just spoke to their call centre and asked what exchange rate they charge. The woman didn't even know. They spend their money on useless swag for their employees and unreasonablely high wages. After 30 years, I am now leaving this financial institution due to their ever declining services and products. The board is obviously not clued in and they have not paid a dividend ever, claiming improved services. Yet, I have not seen it and walking into their hastings branch, you bc an see the enormous waste their bad decisions is costing members. Very sad! read more

Hello, To be honest I do not know how it is physical possible for a bank as incompetent as this one, to still be in business. It was my first bank account. My mom signed me up, and I was set..Excited to use my first bank card, I tried to buy my self a Beanie baby.. Insufficient fund? How could have that been...Well! Apparently I had spent the $40 I had earned baby sitting at a liquor store (keep in mind I was ten at the time). They had opened an account for me that another memebers card had access to. As I continued to bank with them, I continued to have problems. One day the branch manager closed my savings account.. Putting it all it to my normal account. Foolish young me, who had just starting working at the time (16ish years old) thought I had a few extra hours on my pay check.. Nope. I quickly figured that out. Hmmm what about the times that my bank called me to tell me that my account had been compromised so they cancelled my card (they even informed my my account was fine) I went in got a new card, signed the paper work and left. But that new card didn't work. I waiting until Monday to go in to get it fixed. Monday came around and ICBC calls. My insurance had bounced... Thanks Guys for telling me the truth.. My account had $400 taken out. My card would have work but they failed to tell me that who ever had compromised my account actually emptied it. They couldn't even properly put through bill payments. I had made a payment to my visa and the following month got a notice of a failed payment, despite the fact I had the record of payment from WSCU. When I called them they told me "I'm not to sure where the money went".. Exactly what you want to hear from the bank you trust to keep track of your money. I had to order checks 3 times before I received them.. They didn't have a record of me paying for them..but I had. They politely waved the second fee and I finally received them.. They were incorrect and had my address wrong. Which I had to ask them to change twice. I can continue to list of things that they did wrong but I believe its beginning to look bad on me for putting up with it. I finally closed my account and moved to RBC (which so far has been amazing) on August 1st. I was happy to be free from all this headache and not having to constantly monitor my account like a hawk. Then on August 27th $180 comes out of my RBC account as a payment to my CLOSED WSCU account. I closed my account nearly a month ago and they still are making mistakes. I am a student.. I need that money. When I call their head office they said I did not give them enough notice to stop a payment... A MONTH was not enough apparently.. Even though 1) they only need a max of ten days & 2)had no account to put the money into! ( after all their mistakes I double checked they had actually closed it on Aug 2nd) long story short I was told it would be in my account tues.. I did not receive that money until Friday. It took them ten days to fix their mistake. Save your time, yes this bank is free.. But is it worth the headache of constinaly chasing down your money? I wish I had left earlier and I'm still fighting with them to clean up their mistakes. read more

I don't understand these other reviews I have been there since I was a kid and they really care about their clients I have been given advice through high school and managing my investments after university I got my first mortgage there which beat any rate everywhere else I went. 2.55 and the next best was 2.99 at scotia bank they also gave me a gift and paid my first two mortgage payments for me 1500$. There credit cards aren't the best but it's not actually them it's a different credit card company that they supply. They have really cheap fees and help any way they can read more

I have to agree with you, i have been a member of wscu for 30 years call me stupid!!!! apparently loyalty means nothing,went to renew or mortgage and get a home equity loan the process was painful over 30 days to renew and ended up with advertised rate what a crock,after the fact went to a mortgage broker and she was able to get a 1/2 % percent off right then and there.Westminster has no interest in a loans that involve rolling stock(vehicles,boats,campers,etc.) they have no problem in taking your money though for term deposits,rrsp's,gic,s etc.A few years ago went to get a line of credit on our cabin appraised at 350k clear title not a dime owing on it looking for a credit line of 60,000.00 they were not interested at all,suggested maybe one of the other banks would be interested!!!! I'd say they are hurting now judging by there commercials,sign up and they will give you $500.00 and achieve better balance, when dealing with Westminster the only balance is in there favor,they nickle and dime you to death in fees!!!!!!! Not stupid anymore we are out of there,was even prepared to pay a penalty to move our mortgage!! read more
