When I first signed up with Westhost, years and years ago, they were great. You could talk to a customer service person 24/7. I signed with them because they were patient with people whose business is NOT tech or computers. Now they keep "migrating" to various email servers (is that even the correct term?) and I cannot keep up. I lost access to my email, and I've been trying to get someone to TALK to me for hours now. They keep sending emails requesting more information to prove I'm me. I believe in security as much as the next person. Happy to send my billing info, domain names, address, etc. Now they want a photo of me with my PASSPORT. Other than a blood sample I have nothing left to provide. Still, they will not speak with me or assist me in accessing my email. As soon as I'm able, I plan to change to a service that actually provides SERVICE. read more

After 20+ years with Westhost, I am currently locked out of all access to my domain and email, due to Westhost doing a migration of my email that forced a password reset. I'm supposed to log in to my control panel to change the email password, BUT that requires me to enter a 2FA code that is delivered by, you guessed it my email! My inaccessible email! Westhost has no available phone or website support for anyone who can't log in to their account! Edit* April 14th, 4 days later and I am still locked out of my email and Westhost control panel. The Absolute Worst Company in the world. 4 weeks without email. They have no phone number for customer service, even though they claim on their website that its available. Trying to email them to try and get someone to help is even more infuriating. They take days to respond, and when you try to respond back they block you so you just get nowhere. If I could give no stars I would. I am currently looking into legal action to see if I can get them to respond and help me clear up my simple email issue. Totally agree with Elle W. Our system was migrated last week and waiting for support to respond has been excruciatingly painful. I cannot sleep. Our system was migrated on Monday 5/27, but our DNS records weren't updated until 5/31, so our database is not current on the new host. In addition, I'm missing email, folders, identities, autoreplies, etc. from my main email account, apparently due to new quota restrictions that were not on the old host. We cannot do any new business because we're waiting for our database to (hopefully) get refreshed. I can't get any response from support (I've created multiple tickets and even called the business office). Now I'm afraid the data on the old host is gone since they're waiting so long to respond. Westhost, in the USA, owned by The Hut Group in the UK, may be 'melting down.' It recently switched it's email hosting to Stackmail, resulting in issues such as incompatibility with MS Outlook, some email accounts being unable to received mail, and tech support chat has now been offline for multiple days. (All this experienced personally.) Emails to Westhost and the The Hut Group remain unanswered, and action/response to support tickets I've submitted has ceased. read more

Absolutely horrible! I signed up with their email service and went to their FAQ to see how to setup my custom email with my Gmail account. Well, the video that is suppose to be there says 'Video Unavailable' meaning the video was deleted and never updated. Very bad sign they don't have an update help section. The worst of the worst was that their server which hosts their webmail interface went down within 30 minutes of opening my account. I was getting all sorts of errors where I couldn't login but just did 15 minutes prior. So I asked for a refund. When I spoke with customer service via chat (they don't allow phone calls, btw) they told me I have to contact them again on Monday to get a refund...Don't use this company. So many more options out there. read more

WestHost seems like they are going out of business. They had a really bad migration in the last few months that caused numerous problems with many customers and were not staffed to answer support and even shut it down essentially with a "too busy" message.. There is no phone number to call either. I ran into problems and the one support person I got was really just a scribe taker and could not help. Nobody got back to me after days and it being a priority 1 as I could not use the service to maintain our web site. I had to seek outside ideas and was able to solve it eventually and they just closed my ticket and even deleted it from the internal history. After 18 years with Westhost, I am currently locked out of all access to my domain and email, due to Westhost possibly doing a migration that's been going on for 2 months. I cannot access my CHI or Site Manager and I cannot get any new email (after 12/4/2024). I've sent multiple emails from their site, called a multitude of numbers, I even upgraded my LinkedIn account and have been messaging anyone showing that they worked for Westhost. No one ever responds. Now I'm sending messages to THG Company (Westhosts' parent company) in England, hoping someone there will respond with the Transfer Authorization Code/EPP, so I can get rid of these losers. I can't initiate a chat or ticket because I can't get the 2FA code. Do not recommend these clowns to anyone. I even called the Better Business Bureau in Utah, the local chamber of commerce and was going to lodge a formal complaint with the State of Utah, but I don't think that they are physically located there anymore. read more

Westhost used to be a decent company...then they suddenly decided to get rid of customer support and the review pages are now flooded with people in precisely my situation; a small business customer who can't get their email back online after Westhost decided to migrate a portion of their service and offered zero support in helping their customers make the transition. So they have zero phone support, a "live chat" system that seems largely automated with scripted responses, a "ticket" system which is responded to intermittently and and with very similar scripted and useless responses, and NO mechanism for clients who are currently working with compromised service due to their "migration". I've been requesting a tech call for a week and have gotten nothing. Meanwhile, if I go to their interface, it tells me an "operator" will be with me in 47 minutes and it counts down for 47 minutes only to restart the same countdown timer once the first 47 minutes have passed. I sat through 2 each 47 minute resets today and never got an "operator". Company seems to be functionally defunct. read more

Most horrific torturous non tech- support imaginable...I am right now in my 12th hour in queue to chat with a Westhost Tech Support person. YES YOU HEAR THAT RIGHT! At the rate the queue is moving it could be another 12 hours waiting. I literally did not sleep last night trying to contact them...This began yesterday morning when they sent communication requiring customers to migrate our emails. I went into my Westhost "Chi Panel" (Account manager) and did as they requested which was to clicke on the link inside my Westhost Account "Chi Panel" and the migration initiated...Then my emails completely stopped allowing me to send or receive...so then I tried to log back into my account through their "Chi Panel" so I could file a request for support TICKET or do a chat....and also access my emails inside their " Chi Panel", however I could not access as apparently the migration mademy password no longer workable..... However, I could not reset my password, because that requires Westhost to send me a code via email!!!!! WHAT A GLITCH IN THEIR POOR PLANNING OF THEIR PLATFORM!!!! as the problem was and still is... my email is not working .....so how do I receive the code to make a new password if they only send that via email....and my email is DOWN due to their failed migration.....I finally found a phone number at last night but it would not connect...I shad pent the entire day trying to figure out how to reach them.....at 3 am Pacific Time in the middle of the night last night with no sleep, I called the number again and it connected....when I pressed the key to get to Tech Support, an AI voice said sign in with your " Chi Panel"....unbelievable..... my Chi Panel was not accessible!!!..because the migration process made my password no longer work, and I cannot reset it without being able to receive an email!!!!!!!! who designed their systems? ....so no connection to Tech Support available...and locked out of any help......I then called back and pressed the key for Billing and reached a real human being (I called at exactly 3AM PACIFIC as it seems they start receiving Billing calls at 6 AM EAST COAST TIME.......this was hours into me trying to trouble shoot mind you and in the middle of the night. without sleep...the Westhost torture chamber.......the Billing Support person gave me a temporary password to get back into my Chi Panel, so I could open a ticket for Tech Support....and also use Chat to speak with a Tech Support person....only problem is that there was a cue and I was number 35 in queue...I waited hours and got down to 8 and then the chat window disappeared.....UNBELIEVABLE seriously worst customer service non help imaginable....SO I hopped back on chat and then was number 30 again....I have literally been in queue on Chat for 12 HOURS!!!!!!! and am still only down to 6 in Queue..... am now in my 12th hour of being in Queue on Chat...as well I never received a response to my ticket. note here: last year I went through a similar nightmare tech experience...I had to repeat over and over to different tech people on chat the problem with my settings. It was never resolved, so I was never able to get my emails up on a new laptop. I finally gave up and just kept working on my old laptop. it is now the 12th hour....I need to sleep and it could be 12 more hours in queue at this rate.....another note: I have been a Westhost customer for a very long time....before they sold to whoever owns them now they were the most excellent company. iI could reach tech support in a minute via phone 24-7, and reach always wonderful helpful tech people who would resolve an issue expediently...so please forgive my caps...but right now I am angry, this is unacceptable totally unprofessional and inhumane to put a customer through this. read more

Been with them for almost 15 years and every time I need help I wonder why Ive not changed hosting. Support is BEYOND HORRIBLE. You call their support number and it tells you to live chat or submit a ticket. You then live chat and they need you to fill out a ticket. You then fill out a ticket and you wait FOREVER to get a response. All the while your server or email is down. My last support was that my email was down. The live chat guy tells me to send an email!?!?!?! My prior support need was when my SSL cert expired. I forgot to renew, my bad so I expected to be out of commission for a day or 2. Took them almost a week (and multiple calls/emails) to help me. Support just keeps bouncing you to the next useless agent. Save your money, save your sanity, save your soul. I moved both my websites over to WestHost from GoDaddy and it was the worst experience ever. I thought GoDaddy was bad, but WestHost is just as bad! For over 6 weeks, both my websites (which were on different servers) were either down or they were experiencing extremely slow response times. Every time I would contact WestHost's tech support department during these 6 weeks, they would tell me the same thing...that they were seeing the sites fine and that it must be my internet provider's issue, which was Time Warner. So, they would tell me to contact Time Warner every time. When I finally started to realize it wasn't a Time Warner issue and that it was a WestHost issue, I decided to move my sites off of WestHost. When I contacted WestHost's cancellation department, that's when the rep told me that the reason why my sites were slow or were going down was because I was hitting my limits and needed to upgrade my hosting plan. At no time was I EVER told that from the tech support team! Had I been told that in the first place, I would have upgraded my hosting plan immediately! I can't tell you how much traffic I lost and lost revenue because of WestHost inability to tell me what was really going on with my websites. On their site they say "100% Satisfaction Promise" I paid for a year up front for both websites and was completely dissatisfied with their service and asked for a refund for the unused portion of hosting plans. Do yourself a favor, DO NOT consider hosting content with Westhost! Check Yelp first, they were ok a decade ago, are a nightmare now. I started using Westhost many years ago, and initially they were great, very helpful, great service. About 5 years ago I moved my content because I kept getting hacked on their servers and they were horrible, no help at all. For the past 3 months I have been trying to transfer my domains away from Westhost and have had more than 30 interactions attempting to get them to send me the EPP code so I can transfer and they have just now made that happen. Today they sent me a bill saying they were auto-renewing (nothing is hosted there) and were going to retain my domain. Avoid these clowns at all cost. The negative: Westhost convinced me to 'upgrade' from their VPS service to hosted cloud, promising more robust website, quicker response, and near 100% uptime. My site has been down for four days, and was down for three out of the previous seven prior to that, and a total of fifteen full days down since my 'upgrade' in February. When they answer their phones (which has taken up to TWO HOURS recently), they have very little to offer as far as what the problem is, when it will be fixed , or suggest a solution. WOW!!! I had no idea a web host could be this bad and still be in business! When I joined Westhost, I saw right away that their admin interface was weird. But hey, they were cheap. However, a few months later I got locked out of Cpanel. It was requiring that I change my password, and didn't give me any reason as to why. Naturally I thought something bad might have happened, so I contacted support. Nope...they just make everybody change their Cpanel password every six months. Weird, wish they had just told me that, but fine. The next time I had to change my password, I got locked out of Cpanel. For MONTHS. Tech support was no help. I had to tell them repeatedly that the password change protocol wasn't working, until finally somebody overrode it for me. Now my bill is due. It's past due, actually, but no matter how many times I click the "pay bill" button, nothing happens. My site will be shut down in five days. By then I will have moved to a new host. I have been with Westhost for many years, maybe 10 or more. When I first selected Westhost they were right on top of everything. But, they keep slipping. At one point between me and my clients I was managing 6 accounts there, but I've been moving them all away because of poor service. Tech support is awesome when you call in -- for as long as they are on the call. However, the follow-up is pitiful. If the problem is bigger than the front line tech can handle, it does not get escalated, and I rarely get a follow-up email or call as promised. You have to hound them. The kicker for me is slowness. We built a WordPress site which ran OK, but we had several slowness issues, so I hired another developer (specialist) to assist. He concluded it was issues with Westhost, but when we called them, the tech treated us like kids and emphatically insisted that their system was fine. We moved the site to another host and it was noticeably faster -- like 3X. On another website, one page took 40+ seconds to load on Westhost. We talked with them repeatedly, but they couldn't / wouldn't fix anything. Yes, it is a heavy page, but not that heavy. We moved it to another host and without any optimization it loaded in about 4 seconds. 10 times faster! We worked with that host a little and now it loads in 2-3 seconds. Same page. Westhost has fallen behind the curve, and they don't know why. Keep looking if you're considering Westhost. read more

This isn't really a review for products but, rather a review of them as an employer. If you all thought that their services suck it's probably because they don't treat they're employees the greatest. They are a cheap company (which is shocking since their services seem to be pretty spendy), thy don't offer medical benefits and in fact will ask you to lower your hours just so they don't have to offer them to you. They don't give raises on the anniversary date of your day of hire but, they only give them t you once a year and that's it. There are no 6 month reviews and in fact even when they praise you and offer to take you out to lunch they dog you on it, too. I would never work for them nor would I ever suggest this place of employment on my worst enemy. read more

This is not a serious company. *** I've been with WestHost for about 2 years, and my previous employer was with them for about 3. The quality has steadily declined. Lots of downtime, etc. Recently they suffered a breach and reset my password. Their email claimed it was very limited, but I doubt that since their support is so crushed the phone line won't pick up. So it must have been a massive breach. 36 hours after learning about this I am totally unable to access my account. The chat function is dead. The phone line just gives dead air. My support ticket is 25 hours old. Totally, completely, utterly unacceptable to delete your customers' passwords en masse, claim it was very limited, then fail to have the staffing to deal with it. read more

I have been a client for 10 years. I have had major ups and downs with them. Many hours with problems. When things are good they are great. I am writing this review because I have finally had it with the tech support. I will wait sometimes up to 40min to chat with a tech, and if I don't respond immediately they will close the chat. Well I just had one close the chat after I asked why my issue isn't being attended to quicker and if I can talk with anyone else. Basically if I was on the phone it would have been a hangup on me. This is one if those times and i warn you to never do business with this company. I was a customer for 8 years and they overcharged me for those years with hidden overage fees every month. So now i was getting my credit card debited for these hidden fees in a separate transaction i was paying $220 per month plus $40 overage fees of disk space that others pay $15 in all, so their website prices are false advertising, thats not what you pay. We had a dedicated unmanaged server for many years and no big problems - but we were paying a development IT service for management. 4 days ago, we switched to the Westhost cloud managed service. It's been 60 hours (10-31-16) and we have no back end admin access to our website. BEWARE - if you update or email reply to a trouble ticket it automatically goes to the end of the line again. I'd give them negative stars if I could. I've been with Westhost for 15 years or more. I am moving my domains TODAY. The shared IP for email service got black listed and it took over 48 hours to get a response to a "very high" priority ticket. Their solution was to try to upsell me to a dedicated IP. I might have considered it if their customer service hadn't gotten so awful. Response tend to be snarky and unhelpful. My domains got hacked and had javascript injected into the files -- they kept trying to claim that my desktop computers had been hacked and my passwords stolen. Absolutely not the case. The IP is still black listed. Thank god I only use them for email for a couple vanity domains and not to run a business! read more

Forget these fools. They don't know how to run a business, answer support tickets or even keep their servers running. The one positive review written here must have come from the son-in-law of the CEO, because if you check Glassdoor the employees have written review after review about how incompetent management is and how they aren't given training for the job they are supposed to be doing. Check out more competent hosts, I use Rochenhost for my other sites (the one site I have on Westhost is one that I inherited from a different developer) and my support tickets are answered in minutes. I have a support ticket in at WH and haven't even received a response in two days - I had to initiate a chat with support to get answers and whatever they did took my site down - that is how inept they are. UPDATE ---- I first wrote this three days ago when dealing with a super slow server and no response from tech support. I finally ended up getting through to tech support on the phone after the guy on the chat gave me a backdoor number and they were essentially useless too - the support staffer was polite but had no answers, although he did guide me through the needlessly arcane way they set up the password change on cPanel - it wasn't through cPanel but elsewhere. FTP wasn't responding through the domain name, so I had to do a traceroute to find the server IP and managed to download my client's site files and after a couple of hours with constant timeouts I got phpMyAdmin to export the database. The word I got from the guy on the phone was that the admins were "working on it". Apparently they had been working on it for over four days, and the ecommerce site my client had wasn't accepting orders on the weekend before Thanksgiving! So it's now BYE BYE to Westhost, and if you have any sense at all you will avoid them at all costs! read more

Ok - I have been a customer for over 3 years now and have had a VERY rocky relationship with West Host. BUT today takes the cake. After suffering and enduring performance issue on my website for sometime (much of it to do to West Hosts technical issues), I noticed through Google Analytics that my site was slowing and I was experiencing a heavy fall off in traffic and in fact my site was unreachable. When I called Westhost I got, in my opinion, the worse technical support person I have every had the misfortune to talk to in history. He basically told me that my web service had failed (Apache) and that it had to be restarted. I asked him "Is it not web hosting companies job to monitor my service and to make sure that uptime is maintained at least to an industry standard by restarting services that fail. He said no! It was my job." And made some suggestions how I might create and run a crom script to restart my service in the event it failed (among other things). I could NOT believe what I was hearing so I asked to speak to a manager. He informed me that they had all gone home for the evening and there was no one that could give me more info or that I could talk to. In my opinion this is the worse internet hosting I have ever found. In my opinion go anywhere else you can. I plan to move my site as soon as possible. UPDATE: I was able to move my entire website and blog (the new word press export and import works great) to Go Daddy in JUST 3 hours and DNS propagated in 12 minutes. I was easy. BYE BYE WEST HOST. (Years later I am upping my star rating to three because Westhost has new servers, and because they now freely admit that they can't guarantee you can send out over 500 emails per day. So this is still not a good choice for somebody with an email list in the thousands, but otherwise I have found them fine, with good customer service and very little downtime.) I have been with Westhost for about ten years, with a few bad experiences, but never before as bad as the one I am in right now. I send regular requested updates to about 6,000 subscribers a few times a week. This week my mail queue got jammed up, so mail wasn't going out, and I have been bounced around from person to person who has no idea what is causing the problem and how to solve it. Finally somebody today just suggested I delete the 12,000 emails in the queue, but had no idea as to what caused the blockage and how to stop it happening again. Meanwhile one of the mailings was to publicize a show that has already begun as we speak. Three days wasn't enough lead time for Westhost to fix the issue for me to get my mailing out on time. I don't think the lower level folks even took the issue seriously enough to send it up to the techies who might have been able to help. Meanwhile phone support wait times have been upwards of fifteen minutes and chat has been so overloaded that its been down a few times this week so the only way to get in touch with them was a support ticket. And this is not a cheap hosting service! OK, enough venting, I probably have to search for a new host. That is a total drag after all this time, but I have to be able to send bulk mailings. read more

There have been many unplanned outages which means lots of lost revenue and advertising revenue for my site. Even when the site it up, the system is sluggish and trying to get to my control panel can take literally minutes between screens. This is extremely inefficient because my site is updated frequently and I have tons of pages. What should take minutes can take over an hour. I am looking to make a change. read more

Yelp just confirmed my worst suspicions: WH has serious problems. I have been hosting with them almost 10 years, and, as others here have said, they used to be a fine service. When the change came I can't say when - for us, only recently - but for several weeks I've been dealing with slow, erratic server responses, making development a nightmare, not to mention our site visitors' experiences. I have spoken to them 6-8 times about the same problem, and always the same answer: "everything looks fine on our end." So, in back of my mind: "something wrong with my code?" Finally I installed our entire application on another host, and was delighted to find great performance! So WH was right suggesting that something between my location (East Coast) and the servers in UT was causing a problem. The KICKER: my new host just informed me that their servers are also located in Provo, UT. ("So long, West host...") The sad part is this has happened to me several times since the 90s: host starts out great, but after 5-7 years goes bad, usually after a buyout.
