A last minute Wendover trip meant that all the rooms in the casinos were booked. The leftover options were super 8, for $200 a night, or this place for $70. Because we planned to be gambling for most of the night we figured we'd be fine staying in a dump.
That being said, we didn't expect it to be THIS bad. Upon arriving I had to wait a good 20-30 minutes for the card machine to decide it wanted to work before we could be charged and checked in.
Upon entering our room, we notice a very musky dirty smell, although our room was a non smoking room.
The electrical plugs were crooked. Only the light in the bathroom and one in the actual room worked. All of the other lamps we not working, or needed new bulbs. There was a fridge in the room, but it didn't work at all. Carpet was nasty. The toilet had used toilet paper in it, and barely flushed at all. The bathroom sinks water continually ran even when turned off, and the hot water wouldn't turn on because the knob was either stuck or didn't work. There was still scotch tape on the door handles from whenever the hotel was painted, I'm guessing it's been a while. The room keys also only worked about 25% of the time.
In addition, for some odd reason around 11pm, there was a full grown (I'd guess 55+ years old) man walking around the complex in his boxers dragging a blanket behind him like a two year old does. Im not sure if the hotel can be held at fault for this, but it added a significant amount of weirdness to the place.
Even after all of this, we dealt with it because we really weren't there to be in the room anyways.
We get back to the room, pass out for four hours, and wake up to begin the drive to Salt Lake City. After packing up and hopping in our car we realized that we had forgotten some valuables in the room. Luckily, I still had a key. I head back up to the room, and the key no longer works at all. Easy fix? Right? I head down to the hotels office to ask for a new key so I can leave, and the office door is locked with a sign on it that says to pick up the phone next to the door if nobody is there. I pick up the phone... Nothing. No dial tone, no ringing. Nothing. There is nobody anywhere to be found. However, there are two children running around behind the office. (I'm fairly sure the office is the owners house.) These two children would only stand there laughing at us, and would not get anybody to help. Eventually we had to break into our room through the window. Not surprisingly, this was very easy.
I would rather sleep in my car then ever stay here again. I really really wish I could give zero stars. read more
