We moved into our house before the holidays :) Minor warranty repairs requested. A couple repairs have been taken care immediately, 2 others taking a little longer. Our overall experience was good with Western Homes. Construction was slow but, happy with our home read more

I don't know why they are still in business. they built a home for my parents, right off the bat they wanted everyone in the family out of the way. they wouldn't answer questions like, the house we signed for has six large windows why have you purchased eight? the counters in the kitchen were installed for tall (6')and taller people. read more

DO NOT CONSIDER THIS BUILDER WHATSOEVER - BEWARE BEWARE!!!!!! PLEASE BEWARE!! I won against them with California state board of contractors! The have been sued beyond so many times it's outrageous!! Building a home should be a joyous occasion but they are a nightmare. I am NOT the only one who has win against them!! I wish I had done my due diligence prior - would have saved me a lot of heart ache, stress, financial loss, etc. BEWARE!! read more

I won't go into detail about the home this company built for me, read the other reviews as they are pretty on par with my experience. Bricker Construction and GJ Gardner also build homes on your lot. In hindsight I wish I would have used either. In RE to Tim's comments: I have not spoke to Tim since 7-27-2015, not about this review or any of the problems with my home. I signed a contract with Western Homes March 16, 2014 and moved into my house In January 2016. - I did do my own tile flooring and granite counter top, it indeed took almost 2 months. -I dealt with Baker Cabinets on upgrades myself per the recommendation of Western Homes. all pricing and payment went through WH. After meeting with Scott at Baker Cabinets it took nearly 2 weeks to get prices from WH. After that it took a few days for me to make my decision I made several other small hold ups throughout construction as I had to bring in my own door, stucco, plumbing and sheetrock contractors to repair poor quality work that Western Homes either would not fix or did such a bad job repairing that it needed to be redone. At this point I could care less about the nearly 2 year timeline in building my house, I sometimes run behind in my business and its not a big deal. The shoddy workmanship and non-existent customer service are much bigger problems with this company. read more

over two years ago we close contract, not gonna make a long story. The house its not built yet. Tried to get answers, left messages for Tim to call me back, don't even calls back or nothing. So people out there if you're planning to hire this company, my best advice is, don't. Totally unreliable. My parents are over 65 yrs old, they been waiting for over two years. How is this even fair? As we speak learning on how to go about it. Why does the unnecessary cost/expenses have to come out of our pockets. Again! very disgusted and very disappointed with this company. Sickening! :( read more

Construction was started April 20, 2023. Now June 2024 and still not completed. Seems Western Homes has a problem getting their sub-contractors to complete their jobs on the house. Valor construction which installed the fire sprinklers held up work on the house before for 5 weeks with nothing being done on the house during that time frame. Now they need to complete the final inspection on the fire sprinklers and are not responding to request. Cracks in ceiling wall boards need repair. Every time I ask Jay Bains/Tim for updates, I am told he will put a bug in their ear! We feel our house could have been completed within the year. read more

We used Western Homes to build our home about 15 years ago. It occurred to me that I never did a review, so better late than never. Here's the good news: We could not have been more pleased with our home. As our many friends who have moved out of California & had homes built for them in other states, the issues have been countless with many call backs due to shoddy workmanship. We built a 3200 sq ft home with Western Homes, taking about 18 months. What strikes me is that not once did I have a complaint about the subs used or the quality of tgeir work, or our communication with Western. That to me was remarkable considering how demanding we. We did many upgrades, sometimes using outside subs as well as Western subs. So, my thanks to them!! I do hope the same occurs for today's customers. read more

Per reviews maybe good I couldn't build a Lassly Western home 30+ years ago, great price about $27 per foot as they had a 2 story 2500ft plan I loved but when we were ready they didn't offer that model anymore My sister built the 1800ft ranch style home 30 years ago and seems fine! read more

I moved into my newly built Western Home over a year ago, I'm very happy. I had designed and built two homes so I knew the process and told Tim the owner that I wasn't his typical customer. I gave Western no reason not to finish my home quickly, I was always three steps ahead of them. The house is at 3800 feet up in the mountains off grid with 2x6 walls and very well insulated. It faces south and the windows keep the house at 70 degrees during the day and with no heat it's at 66 degrees in the morning. Incredible! The house was finished in six months with my constant prodding. read more

As an update after posting on Yelp. I received a call from the owner Tim. Very apologetic and said they would take care of the problem. It took a few weeks but they did fix to our satisfaction. Tim also stressed that if there is any other problems even if it is after the first year, they would look into fixing it. I did appreciate the customer service Tim showed, I just wish we would have seen this kind of concern earlier. That is the reason for the 3 stars. New update: Contacted Western Homes 6/17/18 because the fix on our carpet came undone. Western Homes would not get back to us ever. Finally I called the sub contractor out and he was nice enough to come fix his error but he said he should get the work order from Western, I explained they would not answer me, and he shook his head and said that is what he hears all the time. So obviously they only fixed the problem the first time because of yelp review after not getting the stars they wanted, they were DONE with me. Talk no action. read more

Finally done after 3 years, this review can go either way, based on the contractors ability to complete the final punch list during their "warranty " period . Will update on their progress and quality of their workmanship on repairs needed. As a former construction inspector I have to give them the opportunity to fix what's needed in a timely manner, will keep you posted. Brian A. read more

Wonderful business with great people! Everything during our project was seamless. I would absolutely recommend Western Homes to anyone in the Central Valley looking for a custom home read more

If I had the opportunity to rethink my decision to have Western Homes build my house, I would go with a different builder. The company has not met any of their 'stated' timelines, they have not produced a quality product and refuse to provide a completion date. I have had to extend the construction loan twice, and pay penalties on the loan, due to the lack of completion. They broke ground in September 2017 and as of now, cannot provide a completion date even though they provided a statement that the 'process' would be completed approximately 8 weeks after the cabinets were installed. That was done at the end of May 2018, and it has now been 14 weeks. Getting anything done is like pulling teeth. Communication with the owner and his contractor, Jay Bains, does not happen unless you instigate, via email, and insist on a reply back. They will not install or make arrangements for utilities, you should not expect that they will do that for you. Do not believe that they will complete any build within their advertised time line of 30 weeks. Expect to have to review all of their work, before completion, and provide them with numerous lists of items to be addressed. My current list has been with them since June 2018, and I keep adding to it. Expect to hear, from Mr Bains, the 'you should just live with...' any defect you find and that the repair or fix would be worse than what you have. I will be issuing a complaint with the contractors board, against the company and Mr Bains, for false advertising, poor construction quality and failure to meet expected timelines. Not to mention their sub contractors stealing items from the job site and drinking while on the job site. So, unless you want to review their work daily, and be on-site every day of the build, DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! read more

I tend to agree with Bryon B, JEff J, and Becky B. It wasn't the experience I had 27 years ago when we build our first western home. All I can say is i will NEVER recommend Western again. I can go on and on, we experience some of the same problems the others have. I can say the sales people are nice, but the some of the subcontractors did such lousy work. Western needs to think about who they hire. I wish I would have read the review before we went with them. The subs only came out a few days in Dec and Jan..we are still waiting to get a few things done..How does one forget to blow insulation over a few rooms or put in a vent. I mean come on..what happened to good workmanship and taking pride in ones work? We are emailing and calling often to remind them of what needs to get done and fixed. ALl we hear is they are trying. THen hire someone else to complete the jobs. I"m shocked after reading the reviews..that the owners don't seem to care about quality workmanship. read more

Pretty much the same experience everyone else is stating. Customer service is poor. They constantly give false promises of subs showing up to work or completion dates that are never meet. Make excuses for everything or try and put the blame back on the customer for holding up the project. Do not hold their subs accountable for showing up on time or for their poor workmanship. Cost ends up being more than budgeted because you pay interest on your loan longer than they lead you to believe you will need to. Have to purchase a new insurance policy because they don't complete the house in the time stated. Loans have to be extended or rewritten since they don't finish the home on time. It's just one thing after another with these guys. Buyer beware! read more

I was staying at the cedar bluff In Knoxville Tennessee. I was in a handicapped room with a roll in shower . Went to take a shower and sat down in the handicapped chair provided. Less than five minutes later the chair broken and I was on the shower floor . Their maintenance man and the general manager had to get me up off the floor. Their brought me another chair which was worse than the first one . I bruised my heel in the fall. The next morning their was a bill under the door. Call upfront and said was their a incident report made up on the fall he said no . I said I want one made up and I would like a copy of it and also you have the nerve to bill me for the room . The general manager didn't know what to say took him about two minutes to say it would be taken care of. But what really got me was the incident report not being made out . I also e mail him a picture of my heal . If I have in problems with it he has Proof of what happened .i did make a app with my DR. When I get back to indiana read more

We built a Western Custom Home, dont let the name fool you, this home is a piece of junk, the doors all stick, the kitchen/bath cabinets the finish is flacking off and the windows are such low quality they have serious moisture problems and do nothing to keep out the cold or heat. If your in the market for a new home dont make the same financial mistake we did, do not build with Western homes. M. Anderson read more

My husband and I built a Western Home on our property. It took a little over a year. We had some delays do to weather and we did our own counter tops and flooring. Western was flexible about us making changes. Their credits weren't great but we got upgraded tile and flooring and they let us deal directly with our sub contractors. We had some items that needed fixed about 8 months after we moved in. It took about 3 weeks but they did get them done. Over all we are happy with our home. read more

Review Pending. Feel free to MSG us for info/photos. Western has built for us, completed in 2014. We will update.

I just had my western home completed, extremely happy with the way it came out! I would personally recommend. The customer service was very friendly and fast. This is one home in happy to raise my family in. Thank you western homes! read more

In my opinion you would be wise to drive on by and talk to other builders If you run out of gas in front of Western Homes catch a bus, call Uber, Lyft, a taxi, walk, or if none of those are options crawl to another home builder. This is our second Western and I cannot imagine having another one built after this one. I felt our first Western was much better quality from the beginning. This one came with problems from top to bottom. I believe by the time the problems are worked out it is better initially to pay a little more and start with a better home. Hopefully then you won't be pouring money into it to get it where it should have started. read more

Do not build a western home! Spend a little more money & hire ANYONE else. We spent a lot of money on extras & upgrades to make it a more custom home, their subs are incompetent - they only do cheap, shitty work and Western homes accepts and defends them as if its their only option. They cannot stick to a schedule, not organized, never come onsite to see how the project is coming. Didn't even show up for our final inspection. They take no responsibility for their inability to produce what they promise. PLEASE do not give them any business! read more

Western Homes just put the last screens on my house after 24 months of terrible work and performance , they told me 6mo - 8 mo to completion and at 62 years old 2 years is a lot of time and extra rent . These people are by far the worst people I have ever work with . The workmanship is terrible the people in the office plot on how to rip you off . They have used the cheapest material and their sub contractors don't and won't even show up unless they get paid first because of their bad payment practices or not pay at all . I live in Kerman and they said they don't get paid enough to come this far to work .The guy in the office told me to bring my money in before the holiday's Nov. 2014 they finished Dec 2016 and that's not finished that all I could take . They actually tried to put a lean on my house and property to get their last payment before they finished . THESE PEOPLE ARE TERRIBLE AND WILL BURN YOU TRY ANYBODY ELSE WILL BE BETTER !! read more

After helping a friend through this painful building process with Western Homes I have to say if I was the owners of this company I would want to bury my head in the sand. The end result of this home does not even compare to the quality of a mobile home. The owners of Western should be embarrassed and ashamed of themselves and their sub contractors for allowing such pathetic workmanship and for using the cheapest building materials available. I have worked in construction for over 10 years and I have never seen anything like this. read more

We were going to have this company build a home for us. A year and a half later, they still hadn't started on it. Even the blueprints were still not finalized. We decided to buy an existing home and cancel construction. They slapped a lien on our property (which we had to hire a lawyer to have it removed) and took us to small claims court trying to sue $7400 out of us. A lawyer owns a portion of the company, and in small claims, this lawyer can represent the company as an owner, otherwise, no lawyers are permitted in a small claims court. This same lawyer works with the judges as a mediator. We had to end up paying them $1600 for county work, even though there were no permits ever pulled. We're so glad they didn't build a home from us after finding out what kind of a company they are. read more

Better get everything and I mean EVERYTHING in writing! Do your homework first before even thinking about buying a home from Western Homes! We were told our home would look exactly like the model with the exception of 9 foot ceilings, stone work on exterior and granite countertops! WAIT!!!! Ever buy a car full of bondo? That is what we are getting! Nothing is even like the so called model..... If you are considering a Western built home get everything down to what kind of screw is used in writing! Everything is an "extra" down to the cabinet hinges. And the management of this company? OMG, Left does not talk to right for sure! It is beside me as to how this company has stayed in business for 50 years! There is absolutely no communication within this company between job foremen and owner. They are CLUELESS! I have talked with several people who have had homes built by Western (after the fact of signing my contract with them) and have come across 2 and only 2 people who have been satisfied with their work. VERY DISSATISFIED! Oh wait one more thing, their website says removal of construction debris... I have been picking up their debris that has been blowing over into my neighbors yard as 3 piles of debris have been sitting for almost a month now, and they also advertise "no deposit required" Hmmmmm listen here now, I had to pay a $2000 deposit up front to get this project off the ground as I am told it will come back at the completion of the job, wait & see..... will update at time of completion. read more
