This is the second death our family has experienced in the last few months and costs are unfortunately, of great concern. We were looking for a simple cremation for our loved one and we met with BrIan Hahn at Jones, Rich and Barnes Funeral Home. We did not have an appointment and were only in town for a couple of days. Brian dropped everything to meet with us and although we were not able to use his company's services, he was generous, compassionate and thoughtful. This is one of the most beautiful cemeteries I have visited. It was filled with life, which seemed appropriate in celebration of those past. The wildlife, from herons to river otters, beautiful birds, flowers and tall trees. I have always thought cemeteries to be sad and depressing and run down. While I didn't walk through the entire cemetery, because I was here to see the otters, I was able to take in how beautiful and clean the area was in general. The paths can be walked on and driven on, just don't get locked in if you are inside and it's close to sundown. The cemetery closes at sunset. Here you will find runners, joggers and walkers and dogs. The people here were so friendly, sharing smiles and hellos. Everyone was so pleasantly interested in the otters as we all helped others to see them, when they poked up through the ice and water. I would recommend this place to see friends or otters (if they're still there) or for a bit of history - looking at all of the different headstones from many years past, or just taking in the quiet nature that surrounds this location. I also tried filling out a form but that directed me to a sales person who wanted to know when to call. When I asked to speak with the same person I dealt with 9 years, they responded that no one is there from 9 years. Since we worked with the owner 9 years ago, that must mean Advantage was sold.

A social worker at Gosnell Hospice highly recommended Casco Bay Cremation, so I expected my…read moremother's cremation to be handled with care and professionalism. However, I was very disappointed. These are my main grievances: 1. Despite instructing us to arrive 15 minutes early, Jeff was 5 minutes late to the cremation, and my entire family stood outside and waited for him. 2. The viewing room is only accessible by walking through the staff break room. It felt intrusive and awkward to pass through. 3. The final goodbyes to my mother were rushed and uncomfortable. The staff was dressed very casually (T-shirt and leggings) and it felt like they wanted us to wrap it up so they could leave. 4. I had to reach out to Jeff to ask when and where I could pick up my mother's cremains and death certificates. 5. Jeff mixed up my father's middle name, Ching, and my grandmother's middle name, Hwa, on the death certificate after I spelled it out for him twice. 6. Their office felt like a storage closet, and Jeff's associate brought a toddler when I received my mother's cremains. For these reasons I do not recommend Casco Bay Cremation.
