The scheduling line today was very challenging. The first call not great news, however professionally handled, I was asked to call back as the systems were down. The second call I was told they did not have my orders in the system. Understandable. However as I read off the information on my orders from the doctor, I was asked for ccp codes (really how would I know that when there is nothing on the order that states CCP code). Then I was told that the code for a mammogram and the assessment code didn't match and I had to call my doctor and get it revised and they could not schedule the mammogram. This order form looks exactly the same as every order form I have copies of. Then when I pressed I was told by the scheduling agent that she was not incompetent (words never used by me) and that she was sending me to someone else which of course rang until I was disconnected. The third call was more professional and I was able to schedule my mammogram with only a little pushback i.e. has to be scheduled after 365 days. Which I had to explain ( as I did last year ) that is not the case with my insurance and I understand that is the case with many insurance providers and that's why the scheduler must state that.

Now…read morewith my recurrent back pain, especially after long walks, my primary care doctor referred me to this center for evaluation. I requested Dr. Fox. His staff is exceptional - caring, professional and thorough with questions. Just like Dr. Fox! It was easy to get an appointment, and Nyah as well as Paula have excellent phone etiquette. It was a pleasure speaking with both of them at various times about my concerns and appointment scheduling. Adam saw me today for my vitals, and PA Ron spoke to me about my previous history with back ailments. He also evaluated the strength of my legs & gait. Dr. Fox saw me last. He went over the notes Ron took, and after evaluating pain in hip and thigh, wrote orders for Physical Therapy and an MRI. He is very thorough and professional! I look forward to seeing Dr. Fox for followups to come!

I saw him again on 08/02/2023 based upon a referral from my primary physician. I've been having some very unsettling and worsening symptoms associated with my back and, following an MRI, the radiologist determined that I have a 'tethered cord' and that I needed to be seen by a neurosurgeon. Not knowing what 'tethered cord' meant, I did a fair amount of Google research, which explained the signs/symptoms, and I truly checked the boxes. Also, to be fair, it wasn't entirely on Dr. Mickler; his PA Edouardo set the tone from the very first 10 seconds that he entered the exam room and asked me why I was there. I replied that I was referred by my doctor to which he said, "Okay, but why are you here?" Fair enough, so I told him that I understood that I have a tethered cord and was following up to see what could be done about it.Then, he said, "What does that mean?" By this point, I'm starting to get annoyed. It's one thing to try to coax information from a patient so you know what's going on but it's entirely another to be condescending and impatient to the point that the patient feels like you are not only wasting your time but that Edouardo certainly feels like you are wasting his. Since I didn't seem to have the right answers, he came right out and said, "I saw your MRI and your spine looks beautiful." Puzzled, I mentioned that I saw the MRI report and I didn't get the same impression. I'm not a doctor, nor a PA, but I do know how to read and I am confident that I have as much, if not more, education than Edouardo. When I mentioned that I saw the MRI report and that I saw the actual words 'tethered cord' on the report, Edouardo's exact response was, "Well, that's just the radiologist's interpretation." Oh, sorry, I thought that was the radiologist's actual job. I'm not going to provide the name of the radiologist, who completed my report but, if your initials are M.T. F. and you work for Baycare Imaging, you might want to dust off those credentials and ask Edouardo for a side by side comparison, or, at the very least, watch your back and know that he finds your reports insignificant and has no problem sharing that with patients. Edouardo steps out for a minute to fetch Dr. Mickler, who was probably hoping he could avoid this scheduled appointment but Edouardo let him down. Dr. Mickler shakes my hand, asks me some questions about my symptoms, mentions that my spine looked "beautiful" (crazy how he used the exact same word as Edouardo) and asked me if I had seen a neurologist. I hadn't because who knew you couldn't trust the radiologist? My bad. After spending his allotted 2 minutes with me, Dr. Mickler again shook my hand and told Edouardo to get me a referral to a neurologist. I left and I have since gotten a referral for a neurologist from another doctor. Have my symptoms continued or gotten worse? Yes. Do I believe that Edouardo or Dr. Mickler care? No. I believe that had either of them cared, even a little bit, they would have listened to me, heard me, and, even if they thought there was nothing they could do for me, they would have taken me seriously at least to the point of explaining their interpretation of the same MRI that led 2 other doctors to a different conclusion and, I would have walked away from the appointment feeling like I mattered. Like a couple of egos weren't poo-pooing my legitimate concerns and mansplaining to me why my symptoms couldn't possibly have anything to do with the radiologist's "interpretation" of my MRI. I'm no PA nor am I a highly paid neurosurgeon but, I am a person. I am a patient. I should not feel like $$$ signs or, in this case, lack of $$$ signs and not worth their time. If you are a patient, advocate for yourself and know you are worth the time.
