first impression of this place is that is really nice and well kept. The buildings are sleek, the grounds clean. I toured it with my son for his orientation and it was during the summer and the campus was very pretty. Is bigger than I expected it to be. They offer a variety of courses at reasonable prices. When you first arrive on the Valhalla Campus of WCC, your first impression may be that this place is far nice than any community college you've envisioned previously. From a distance, the buildings are sleek, the grounds clean, and - during the spring - I'd be lying if I said the campus itself wasn't very, very pretty. The problem comes when you analyze the campus from any other angle/distance. We'll start with the good. The professors here, for the most part, are absolutely wonderful. Many have taught at other, prestigious institutions, and are thereby incredibly qualified. Not once have I had a truly bad professor here at WCC, and even when I figured one was going to royally screw me, I was able to communicate with them and fix any problems that may have arisen. I'd like to give special shoutouts to professors DuBose, O'Rourke, Siff, and Ostman. The problems begin with everything else. First and foremost: the grounds themselves. This place is absolutely infested with geese all seasons of the year, and the pathways are consistently covered in dark green goose droppings. The interiors of the buildings on campus are particularly egregious - the student center being particularly bad. I cannot name a single day where I have walked into the student center and not seen uncleaned tables, or grease smeared on the floor. The couches are all torn to shreds and the tables are missing entire panels, and are more often than not absolutely filthy. The microwave smells like a dead body and is frequently out of order, and the food here ranges from sub-par to sickening. The place, even when cleaned, looks a wreck on account of trashed, cheap furniture. The library is also particularly bad. There is gum, quite literally, everywhere, and I'm almost certain most of it has been here since I started two years ago. Like the rest of the campus, if you were to appraise the library - interior and exterior - from a respectable distance, you would find it beautiful. The architecture is nice, the organization is easily understood, and the big window at the front provides a lovely view of campus. Under any sort of scrutiny, though, it falls apart. The windows themselves are dusty as shit, and look over at least one rotting ceiling tile, balled up paper, and the remnants of tossed food. The wooden chairs are woefully uncomfortable, and the cushioned chairs are often just as dusty as the windows, and smell like your grandmother's house. The Tech Building, contrary to its name, lacks any sort of Wi-Fi. My first semester here, but 20th Century American History Class had to move buildings on account of the lack of internet. The Academic Arts Building and Science Building look cool on paper, but the second you hit the third floor you're beset by an onslaught of roaches, flies, and food stains along the floor. To be fair, the classroom building is always nice and clean. Kudos to the staff for that. The staff, though, could use some serious help. Departments are woefully unhelpful, and I've heard tell from multiple other students - graduating and looking towards graduation - that the transfer department is utterly useless. I was, at one point, directed to a department that no longer existed. The sheer lack of communication from staff (excluding the professors and counselors) is frankly astounding, and one can go weeks without a peep from a department, or only receive automated emails for the rest of their time here. Combine that with general technical ineptitude, and you have a recipe for disaster. Over the course of my two years here, I have been able to/wound up: - Accidentally entering an orientation event on zoom early, where I was confused for a professor for 30 minutes. I watched technical staff fumble with granting kicking permissions and try to take them away. - Watched technical support give up on my Spanish Professor's computer after 10 minutes of basically slamming their head against a brick wall. This was, promptly, fixed by a student in the class. - Been given IT support for 10 minutes, only for the guy to tell me he hadn't the foggiest idea what to do, and direct me to a department that directed me back to him, thusly locking me in place. I had to fix my connection to the on-campus WiFi on my own. And oh, boy, the WiFi. I've already mentioned that the Tech Building, contrary to its name, has none. The Gateway Center, allegedly the pinnacle of on-campus achievement, has none either - my entire Spanish class was basically locked out of quizzes for the first half of the year. Multiple outlets across campus are broken to shit, and it's come to the point that the Viking News - our on-campus news source - has begun questioning what in the world the student government is doing. Tuition here is mercifully cheap, and it shows. Come here if you need to bang out general education, or need a stepping stone on your way to a proper four year college. Do not come here if you are expecting anything other than mediocrity. read more

Loved it. Graduated with my associates and a certificate. Wanted to go again but financially couldn't anymore. This school seem to go up in price every year I was there. Some professors were super and then their were some that weren't. Clubs were okay. Gym was hot but needed ac. Lockers rooms were okay. Lines to register, financial aid and payment could be long when it's time to register for classes. But other times there is no problems. Phones can be everything is automated. So it's hard to get someone on the phone. read more

I've only been here one semester but it seems like a really solid college for a 2 year degree. The campus (unlike any CUNY city campus) is actually very vast and with many trees and clean air. The facaulty seems happy to do what they do. There are even geese walking around in little families on the trails during the day and they offer transfer services to other SUNY and CUNY schools as well read more

Been attending school here since 2013 and i feel its a great school! Chris & Jose in financial aid are always a big help when i'm having issues with my financial aid. I haven't had a professor yet that didn't help me if I needed it. The grounds are beautiful. I've been to some school where they don't cut the grass all the time or trim the shrubs but I've yet to see that at this school. The library is massive with tons of seating and its nice and clean! Now to the food... It's ok I guess.. If your in a rush and just need a bite to eat but it is costly. A salad will cost you about $10. Definitely out my price range for school Cafeteria food. I do like the on campus Starbucks though. The muffins and tea are my goto on mornings when I don't get food before making it to school. Great school read more

Anyone looking to go here, make sure you are 100% committed because God forbid you register for a class and decide you cant attend and unenroll yourself from the class within an hour of enrolling, you will still be held responsible for the entire bill of $654 just because you enrolled and unenrolled on the first day of class. My name couldnt even hit a roster yet as fast as i did everything, but they are billing me stating there is some clause that if you register on the first day of class you cant drop it for any reason. Even though i have medical issues and would love to attend but it was not the ideal time so i changed my mind but nope, refund committee said no and there is no appeal process. Real BS...but im not quitting! I plan on going to news12wc, westchestermagazine, twitter any and everyone to let them know of this because its really not right to do this to people that want to better themselves. I dont usually do reviews but I figure it could help someone decide. I first attended wcc fall of 2013. I was very skeptical of going because of some of the reviews I read. So I said I make my experience what it is and I enrolled. Let me say, I am satisfied with the turn out. I recieve financial aid and had no problems with receiving it or communication. ( except during the gov't shut down, but my classes were paid for so it was ok :) Although I have only been here 1 semester. All of my professors were great so far. I look them up on ratemyprofessor.com to make sure I get the best professor. As far as food. I guest the cafe is pricey but I dont eat there. there's so pizza shops by and dunkin donuts, a wing place and a couple stores(deli) that work fine for me if I ate out. I did not want to come to this school. I really didn't. I began my college career at La Salle University in Philadelphia, PA and after my first year, financial aid couldn't come through so at the eleventh hour I got stuck at this school. After a year of going through the real college experience, coming here was horrible. This is no college, this is a high school disguised as a college. The classes feel more like high school classes and, unless you are really stupid, you will not be challenged here. There are exceptions, though. Certain professors, especially in the science department, make it more difficult than it needs to be. My biology professor failed to notice that the entire class was on the cusp of failing the class. The student body is unenthusiastic about school. In fact, they are for the most part unenthusiastic about everything. There's no one person you'll really be able to identify with mostly because there's no social interaction unless you've all been best friends since high school at got stuck at this pig sty, too. The math department is also ridiculous. The idea of a placement test is absurd and simply an attempt to squeeze more money out of students and keep them here longer. I took my placement test and it directed me to taking a certain class, when it came time to register, it wouldn't let me because my score apparently wasn't high enough to take a basic math course for no credit. So what am I supposed to do? Thankfully, you can take online courses elsewhere and WCC will accept them, that's what I'm doing. I don't eat at the cafeteria. The prices there are outrageous for food. When I found out they added a "$5 minimum for all purchases" I was done there. The only thing I give this place 2 stars for is the fact that the credits you get there are all transferable and the school IS cheap. Unfortunately, you get what you pay for. If I can offer a word of advice to prospective students: DON'T BE PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS. You are better off going to a real SUNY school or any real school or heck, just taking a semester off. I am extremely happy to be able to graduate from Westchester Community College. Since I started taking ESL classes there, all people have been so helpful to me. All professors are wonderful and help any student to do well in their classes. The president is very approachable and friendly. There are many many scholarships that can help. Personally, I did not pay a penny for my education because I got scholarships. Instead, I got money back. I highly recommend students to attend to WCC because they will do very well, learn new skills and have many opportunities that will help them. You will not regret, but know that all depend on you whether or not you decide to dedicate your time to focus on your studies. I love this College. Do not think twice and go! read more

Do not go there. This is the worst school because of the students that attend. These students are extremely rude, uninterested in going to college, lazy, do not do the work they are supposed to do, arrive late for classes, miss tests, cheat on tests, and think that they can pass the courses just by warming up a seat. Westchester Community College is possibly the worst place to be besides from being in High school. In fact, it's nowhere near as different as High School. The fact that the place is cheap is the only reason I came to this school in the first place. When I first applied to this school, they didn't allow me to apply online. At first I thought there was just some problem with it, but now I realized it that there is where the inferno started. When it was time to take my placement exams, I studied for weeks for that exam and I was confident that I got into the classes with credits. Unfortunately, they placed me into TWO developmental classes for Math and reading and a credit class in writing. I was upset after that. Then I was told by the financial aid that I had to have 12 classes to be qualified for full time. They NEVER told me that developmental classes counted. So for my first semester, I wound up taking 6 classes, 2 non-credit and 4 with credits. I was a stressful mess by the end of the semester and that is when they asked me why I did that and I was angry they asked me that. Plus the first week at the bookstore was a mess and the method in financial aid is CRAP! I wasn't able to take my money and rent books somewhere else and instead, I had to buy all of my expansive books at the bookstore and spend about $300 on book that my professors don't even use. I only use one, but other than that, I could have rent the books on Chegg. As a Visual Arts student, they asked so much in me and expected work by the following next class session where some usually don't expect the work till next week. During taking my art classes, they were very harsh to the point that they lowered my self-esteem and make me want to rethink on following the career I want. I know its college and they restrict, but no one should tell someone that their work is horrible and different than expected and lower your grade. I have lots more to say about this college, but from what I said will be plenty. The only great think about going to WCC is doing community service and even work study around the campus. It amaze me that I rather spend the day doing this than going to class and avoid getting my grades affected. And sadly I couldn't drop because it's a requirement. Continuing Ed courses for Summer and Fall 2012 are not what they pretend to be... I signed up for three classes and none were the exact courses laid out in the catalog. The registration process includes no confirmation or receipt or directions/parking info. The whole thing is a mess. SUNY Purchase does a much better job. read more

This college is treating their students with no regards at all. I have contacted several staff members to receive monies due me through my financial aid. They want you to go to class for over two months before releasing the funds. You will not have your books, transportation or supplies and nobody seems to care. These funds are so we can attend classes and be successful in our educational ventures. I was told by a member of the staff, this is a community college what do you expect. Just wanted to let you know if you are planning to attend this college and want to complete your studies, they will not be so helpful. read more

my experience with this community college was a good one but short one . right after high school i took 6 months off to slack off and decide if college was for me and as i tell the high school kids pay attention in school especially in english and math cause in college you will need it.the main campus is huge with plenty of buildings all along a really nice scenic surroundings . plenty of options from associate degrees, certification programs , trade classes , , etc. the tuition is reasonable compared to other schools and they have a liberal financial aid program if you need it. this is a decent junior college if you are not ready for a 4 year college yet but it's important to talk to a guidance counselor or else you might be taking the wrong classes and waste credits that do not carry to a four year college. wcc is part of the suny club so transferring to a suny 4 year school for a full degree might be the best option. beside the main campus they have other smaller campus related facilties around westchester county or you can do the online way but going to a campus location is best in my opinion .listen college is not for everyone so you can try a community college first and try it out for a semester , what do you have to lose and maybe you will learn something in the process . read more

WCC is a wonderful place to begin your college experience and has phenominal opportinities to grow. What most people dont know is that while you save thousands of dollars on tuition, your getting a fully recognized SUNY education from professors who not only graduated from ivy leauge schools, but who genuinley care about student's and their futures. This school has beat out Harvard and NYU for awards in programming and has won awards in student involvement and they are constantly expanding opportinities for students to pump up their resume before graduation. WCC is one of the most diverese college's in the country and people of all ages and backgrounds can thrive here. This school has provided me with so many increadibe experiences and i would recommend an education here to anyone! read more
