The desk is rude and unhelpful. There are many better gyms out there, don't spend your money here.

Missed lesson, juggling schedules, or trying to figure out the best fit for your swimmer? The staff will work with you to get your kid into the right class. While the lessons are only 30 minutes, the instructors make use of every single second of the time. Your lesson starts promptly (don't be late!). The staff is truly efficient. At the end of each lesson, the instructor comes to you the parent and lets you know what your child worked on during the lesson; what she did absolutely well and what she needs additional work on. This is done in an incredibly positive manner. Your child will feel a sense of accomplishment at the end of each lesson. As for the lessons: the small classes promote a trusting relationship between the student and instructor. Crucial with hesitant or new swimmers. Also, the pool is warm. No need to convince hesitant swimmers to engage in a lesson while they are freezing! My daughter is 12 and started swimming at 5. She started to seriously swim at 10 when she started at Swimtastic. This year, we enrolled in summer jam which was swimming every day for a week. We did a two-week session. I saw more improvement in those two weeks than in other 6-week programs. My daughter started her swimming journey at Swimtastic and absolutely loved it. We came back to Swimtastic to help her develop her technical skills. She still loves it. If your child (any age) needs to learn or just improve, I highly recommend lessons at the Waukesha Swimtastic.

They send in extra instructors to work with the kids that are really behind and you'd think after three months of needing to master one more skill before moving up they'd work with her on that skill. Instead they just keep taking the monthly payment and waste her time on other things instead of just focusing on that one thing. In a 30 min class that means she only has two times to try that skill. It's really frustrating when you watch new students enter and get more attention as the instructor spends extra time with that child trying to figure out if they are in the right class. If you are looking for basic intro to water it's great. It's just not enough focused time to work and move up.

Goldfish is behind Culver's in Brookfield, and we went there based on a recommendation from a friend. They are incredibly good at what they do. The entire place is decorated vibrantly with bright colors and an ocean/beach theme. There are different types of levels that you can enroll your child in and for each level, they are assigned a lane during class. This means if you have multiple children swimming at different levels, they can go to the class at the same time. This is an amazing thing for busy parents. While your child is swimming, there is a comfy adult sitting area behind a glass partition where you can take pictures still without the danger of getting splashed. Afterwards, there are showers where all the kids rinse off and little dressing rooms for privacy. I love also that they provide a hair drying station as well. This place does everything you can to make swim lessons easy and painless for adults and children. I would highly recommend it, especially if you are thinking about enrolling multiple kids so they can get the attention they need for their level but still be scheduled together.

We booked a trial class via text communication with the Bayshore location. They were extremely helpful and responsive. My son and I arrived about 10 minutes prior to his class starting and were quickly greeted by the friendly guy at the front desk. He got us checked in and gave us a quick tour. I was really impressed by the facilities! Super clean, very colorful and welcoming for the kiddos, plenty of changing rooms, an area with hair dryers and suit dryers, lots of private bathrooms, and a big ol' fish tank. The center of the building is a wall of glass looking into the pool area, with plenty of seating for parents to watch. The instructor was so sweet and welcoming to my son! Immediately made him feel comfortable. Was both playful and safe. For reference, my son has been in water many times with floaties, but this was his first time officially taking lessons. It was the first time he really put his face under comfortably, blew bubbles, and spent time kicking. I was so impressed by the overall experience, and even more importantly, my son left excited to complete his first class. Needless to say, I booked him in for weekly classes to progress over time. The cost is $28/class, and it's generally 4x/month. It sounds like there are anywhere from 1-4 kids per class. I love their progression plan on moving up and graduating each skill level. Eager to see how the next few classes go!

Those of us from Chicago are familiar with the Polish war hero, and this beautiful park is an appropriate tribute in a town that owes much to our Polish immigrants. It's a big park, and it's pretty well maintained though the County has trouble staffing lifeguards for the pool so it's often closed. There are no Polish restaurants around here but nearby is an Eastern European grocery store if you want to pack a picnic or there are many good Mexican restaurants near by to get take out for al fresco dining.

General Thaddeus Kosciuszko was born in Poland on the lower end of the upper class which placed him…read morein military training. He was trained in military engineering but he was also a passionate man who loved liberty. When the American Revolutionary War broke out, the 30 year old Kosciuszko came to the colonies to help out. He spent six years as part of the Continental Army, working as an engineer to fortify American facilities and also fought on the line. He befriended Thomas Jefferson. At the end of the Revolutionary War, the grateful Americans gave him a plot of land in Ohio and named him a General. He returned to Poland but left word that upon his death, his American holdings should be sold and the proceeds used to free and educate slaves. (That was a pretty radical concept in the 18th Century!) As Poland was an inviting target for invading armies, Kosciuszko returned to the Polish army and fought to repulse the invading Russians in 1792. The Polish king surrendered, Kosciuszko was wounded and captured. He was exiled in 1796 and was never able to return to his homeland. A hero in both America and Poland, Thaddeus Kosciuszko was a central figure in Polish communities all over the world. A statue of him can be found in any city with a large Polish community, and Milwaukee was no exception. A collection was made to raise funds to commission Gaetano Trentanove to create a statue of the Polish hero. Gaetano Trentanove was born in Florence, Italy on February 21, 1858. By way of Chicago's 1893 Columbian Exposition, Trentanove wound up in Milwaukee where he had a studio and taught at the Layton School of Art. Trentanove statues can be found around the world but also in Milwaukee's Wahl Park, Oshkosh and Lancaster, Wisconsin. In 1903, Trentanove's statue of Kosciuszko was cast in Florence and shipped to Milwaukee in two pieces - the horse and Kosciuszko, to be reunited in Lincoln Avenue Park, in the center of the Polish community of Milwaukee's south side. (The park was renamed in honor of General Kosciuszko about the same time the monument was placed here.) The years have passed, the community has changed from Polish to Hispanic, but Kosciuszko remains. The statue was showing its age. Patina hid many details, damage was causing deterioration, his spurs were broken off and his scabbard was missing. The monument was in need of some serious restoration help. A group was formed to that end, called the "Restore the Kosciuszko Monument." The group documented the statue and collected the funds needed to restore the statue. The monument underwent a thorough restoration in 2013. The bronze statue was removed and taken to a specialist in Ohio, where the patina was removed, repairs were made and missing parts were recreated. The missing scabbard was located. Meanwhile, the pedestal was cleaned and polished, in anticipation of the return of General Kosciuszko. See: http://www.rkmmilwaukee.org/ for the story of the restoration. Incidentally, most people pronounce his name as "kozz-ee-ESS-ko" but my Polish friends taught me long ago to call him "ka-ZHOOSH-ko" which I still endeavor to do.
