This place is a little slice of food heaven. The service was great, quickly came to take our order in the car. First time here so we chose to get out of the car for a picnic table. Ok, everything was great! Fries I could use a little more crisp. The chicken rings, the fried shrimp, the fried mushrooms, and the burger was amazing. That bacon cheeseburger though! My first Canadian review. I absolutely love family owned places just like this one. I of course got the poutine and wow it was so good. I got the chili and cheddar poutine and my wife for the popcorn chicken poutine.We came for lunch so we didn't get the breakfast but we have heard that it is very good! Our waitress was so sweet and helpful, gave us many things to do on our short visit. We mentioned that we heard the maple syrup at West Side Cafe was the best so she gave us a free bottle to take back home with us. Loved the ambiance of this small family owned place! read more

Thank you fellow Yelpers! When we go to an unfamiliar place I depend on Yelp for honest reviews. This place is no exception. The place is small but packed with charm. Our waitress was prompt and sociable. I ordered the Italian sausage patty with sides of scrambled eggs and potatoes. I got a 1/2 pound patty, two eggs and what seemed like 3 potatoes. All this still came with 2 pieces of toast. The food was great. I couldn't finish it all. This will be a return visit if we find ourselves in town again one day. read more

Small diner like environment. Was expecting the food to be a bit better than it was, because all of the locals recommended it. Hour wait for food and the poutine was cold. Burger was hearty but not juicy and was burnt on a cold bun. Advertised fried onions as a topping but they seemed like raw shopped onion. Coleslaw was warm and lost its crunch. So after looking around online for suggestions, we saw that this cafe was recommended as somewhere that the locals like to eat. We went there, and it was amazing! There is NO customer wifi, and I got screamed at by the cook last night to "unplug your phone from that outlet RIGHT NOW" and that " if you don't like it, you can leave", yet two nights earlier, they allowed another customer to plug in their phone to charge it (why was it that the cook was telling at me in the first place instead of the serving staff?) Came here today early afternoon. Not busy at all there were maybe 4-5 other tables consistently while I was there. Waitress was not friendly. I had to ask for a glass of water with my pop 3 times before I got it when I received my food. We were here for one whole hour before we got our food. I ordered a clubhouse with cheese and a poutine which was good but they forgot my cheese. My boyfriend ordered a burger with ketchup mayo lettuce & onion. Received a burger with relish and mustard that was for a different customer. I eat out often and have never not left a tip for a waitress until today. Anytime I've gone to this restaurant it's only because nothing else is open on holidays or late at night because the food is never great. read more

Open 24/7 and the definition of an authentic greasy spoon. The place has been around forever and somehow manages to scare away tourists at the same time as keeping the locals coming back for more. Great place for breakfast after a hard weekend or poutine in the middle of one. Service is good and the menu is simple. Stop by and get some good grub, a good cup of coffee, a paper and a lottery ticket all in one spot. If you want a chef this is not the place for you. this place is open 24/7 and one of the only places in the sault like that. The food is greasy, great as late night snack or hangover food. Their poutines are delicious and food portions are great. If I could rate this a -1000 I would. I came in today (Tuesday October 20th) at approximately 5:30. We ordered our food (1 poutine, 1poutine and a hot sandwich, 1 poutine and chicken strips) we got the food around 6:30. There was next to no cheese on any of our poutines, the turkey sandwich and fries were cold. As we were eatting the cook was in the back yelling at the waitress "are you too fucking stupid to tell these bitches to go home" - "what are they all so lazy they can't cook for theirselves at their house" - "I'm not here to do shit, just here to get paid". It was very un pleasing and disgusting. It got to the point one of the other customers had gotten out of his seat and walked to the kitchen and gave the cook shit for what he was saying and how he was treating the waitress. The waitress was a delight, but the food was overcooked and not that good. The gravy for the poutine wasn't that great and was pretty bland for me and my boyfriend. Everything in his burger was burnt and the fries were way overcooked. The cook had also forgotten to give us the coleslaw and we wouldn't have gotten it if we didn't complain and demanded for it. The chicken fingers were small and looked like they came from a box from Great Value brand. 40$ for 2 chicken finger combos is ridiculous. We wanted to try poutine while we were in Canada and West Side Cafe did not disappoint. We got all different sorts of it and they were all amazing!
