After almost four years of employment and three years as an Installation Manager, I gave 100% dedication and loyalty to the company, only to be terminated over someone's opinion / assumption that a text message I sent to one of my subordinates was "insensitive." This was especially frustrating because our branch HR representative had already reviewed and cleared me regarding the same text messages. To me, this feels like double jeopardy.
In four years with the company, I never received any coaching, documented conversations, write-ups, or disciplinary actions for performance or conduct issues. Yet I was terminated immediately, without being offered the same opportunities others in management received.
For example, the Richmond S&B Install Manager was deselected after cursing at his team and making racial comments. The Virginia Beach Assistant Sales Manager was deselected for sexual harassment involving one of his subordinates. Despite those serious situations, I was not offered deselection or any alternative resolution. Instead, I was swiftly terminated over the interpretation of a text message.
The truth is, I believe I became a pawn in a larger situation involving complaints made by two former employees who claimed management forced employees to work in a home where the homeowner was blatantly racist, creating an extremely uncomfortable environment. The sad part is that I had absolutely no authority or say in that decision. I informed my General Manager about the issue the morning of the install, but the decision was out of my hands. To make matters worse, the two employees who filed complaints were never even present on the job site and had already quit working for the company when the complaints were made. They also have a podcast on Youtube speaking highly negative about this company and also state they would do exactly what they did to me.
I also experienced another troubling situation involving one of my newest Lead Installers, who is African American, forging a homeowner's signature on a contracted financial document that immediately starts customer billing, even though the job was not completed. When I attempted to report the issue, I was told by my GM that it "wasn't a good time" because of the ongoing HR investigation. Mr. Davis is aware of this now and has contacted his attorney.
At the end of the day, someone had to take the fall, and they chose me. Fortunately for me being a family member (son) of the FBI for my entire life, they have offer their assistance. This company's 5 -Star reviews are high because they push their installers to get it the day of while the transformation is fresh with the nice new look of their space, then comes all the services, were people don't go back to edit their reviews. More insights to come through my other google accounts and on every other platform (BBB, Glassdoor etc.). If they treat their employees this way, what makes you think they would care about you. read more
