It's been over a year since we moved my Dad into the Independent Living building and my Mom into…read moretheir Ambassador Suites/Assisted Living building at The Forum. After living in another independent/assisted living facility we chose the Forum as it allows for all levels of care. We never thought Mom & Dad would need live in two different facilities but Mom's dementia and physical limitations were just too much for Dad, who has a heart condition. The reasons that were important in choosing The Forum hold true today: ability for Dad to walk inside the building to visit Mom several times a day; that the facility be pet-friendly; and that the location be within a short distance to stores/bank as he still drives. We visited a dozen facilities. The Forum is very hard to beat for the following: Three real meals a day, large apartments updated to include granite & stainless appliances, excellent housekeeping services - the interior of the facility is meticulously clean. On the occasions we have needed maintenance they respond almost immediately - even on the weekends. From the administrative staff, to the nurses, the personal care aides, maintenance and servers - it feels as if they all genuinely want to be there and love their Senior residents. And I can't say enough about the Activities Directors. I never realized how important they are to a facility until Mom's dementia advanced. Prior to living in Ambassador Suites, my Mom would just sit alone in her room. At The Forum, Rochelle sees to it that Mom is part of activities - she paints my Mom's nails, has her baking cookies and plays her favorite music - I know it helps to pass the time for Mom. During this Covid-19 time, the expectations put on senior living facilities is massive. They are observing all critical guidelines to protect their residents to the best of their ability - while also finding creative ways to keep them from feeling isolated. Tirzah in Independent Living even dresses up and goes to each resident's room and plans video calls with families. Though we can not physically touch or hug Mom, and she is now non verbal - I trust that the staff is caring for her as if she were one of their own family and Mom is always clean, well-fed and appears bright when we "visit" her through the window. Any time I have had a question about my Mom's care, I have found Vernonica - the Director of Nursing and Rebecca, the Executive Director, to be easily-reached, responsive and attentive to my concerns. Choosing a facility requires a leap of faith - you have to trust that they will do what they promise upon taking those initial tours. That is why I detailed our experience and hope it helps others in making that critical decision. I would not hesitate to encourage you to visit The Forum.

We needed a spot immediately, and I feel the price reflected that need, it was very expensive, maybe unfairly so. I feel they put her in a price point higher and had assessed more care than what she truly needed, and getting that downgraded was more difficult than it needed to be. I feel part of the reason for this was some the forum was in the transition of new ownership which makes things bumpy. When she first arrived was the forum at Knightsbridge and when she left, it was the estates at Knightsbridge? To be honest, I'm not sure what the name of the place actually evolved into everybody still calls at the forum. I have since moved her out of the facility I can say that when she was in their care, her experience was good. She never was treated roughly or had any incidences that I needed to be aware of. The food seems to have gone downhill and I do not like that the assisted living across the street where she lived is not as nice of the public spaces as it is across the street for the independent care that is my biggest ripe of this place the people who need more care and pay higher cost have a lesser aesthetic in their common space and that did irritate me. I'll be up. It irritated me more than my mom. We moved her to a different company/facility not because of care or quality of care but more due to location. I do like that the forum has memory care and skilled nursing. It was a nice place for my mom, but I would explore pricing of other places when you're looking at this place, this place is good but also is expensive comparatively.

The temperatures in the room reached and remained at over 79 degrees into the night and we were told that climate control was restricted to "opening a window" on the noises and smells of a busy urban street, including car and truck exhausts. I think said window opened all of 2 inches. A proper facility should, IMHO have a patient adjustable thermostat IN EVERY ROOM.

Claremont is worth considering if you know your loved one would prefer a clean, comfortable, lived-in home over a sterile, corporate-run facility. The apartments are well-designed (with bonus attic storage!) and you have flexibility in how to decorate and arrange, plus a private screened patio. One-floor living means it's always easy to get around even if you use a walker or wheels. You can keep a small pet, which can be a great relief for seniors who fear losing their companions. The staff is welcoming and supportive, and many of them have worked at Claremont for many years. That's great for employees and even better for residents and their families; you really get to know the people who are taking care of your loved one. My father moved in six months ago; he was of course nervous about making such a big change, but as soon as we walked into Claremont and had lunch with some residents, nervousness turned to excitement. My dad has had more fun times (and made more friends) in the past six months in Claremont than he ever did living alone for the ten previous years. If and when my dad needs a higher level of care, there is Continuity of Care at Claremont so he can move from Independent to Assisted to Memory Care. I'm so happy he's at Claremont.

All I can say is WOW !!! what a wonderful caring place from the top down in upper management to EVERYONE else that worked there. The place is immaculate, warm, great food, fantastic programs that includes everyone, and the residents are genuinely very happy. I can go on and on...but if you are looking for a retirement place for your parents---I would strongly consider Stone Oak. A shout out to Heather and Dave(CO-top mangers) they are magnificent and run a great operation. My parents love-love-love it there.
