I needed a root canal and had initially gone to two different dentists before I found Dr. Rabata at Weslaco Family Dentistry. (Read last paragraph if you're pressed for time) The first dentist I went to was not only extremely overpriced but also seemed to be unsure what he was doing. After the initial exam his exact words to me were "You might need a fill in or a root canal (examines my teeth for 5 seconds), yeah ummm.... I'm leaning more towards a root canal." my response was "what do you mean you're leaning more towards a root canal? Do I need one or not?" he replied "Ummm.. I'm 99% sure you do." Those are not words I want to hear from a medical professional, who is talking about preforming a procedure that is going to cost me over $2,000 out of pocket. After going home and researching root canals, I decided against getting one because I read a few negative articles online about root canals stating that if the Dr. does not do it right it might cause other medical problems. So the only alternative was getting my tooth pulled. I went to a different dentist for a 2nd opinion, he also told me that i needed a root canal. I told him that I would rather get my tooth pulled because of the negative things I had read online. He laughed and said "Okay, you're paying for it, I'll do what ever you want." he made NO attempt to make me change my mind or advise me about the negative effects pulling my tooth might have in the long run. I scheduled my appointment for later that week. That night I was in so much pain I looked online and saw that Weslaco Family Dentistry took in walk in patients with dental emergencies. That morning I called the office and the staff was able to schedule me for that same afternoon. When Dr. Rabata saw me he actually took time to examine my tooth and explain that I needed a root canal. I voiced my concern about root canals, and asked if he could just pull my tooth instead, and get an implant. Dr. Rabata actually took time and strongly advised me against pulling the tooth and explained the long run dental problems that might arise from pulling it. He also explained getting an implant was much more expensive. He also made me feel reassured that he knew what he was doing and was confident that a root canal was my best option. He took time to show me a video of what the procedure looked like. I felt that he was really sincere when he told me that he would advise one of his family members the same thing if they were sitting in my position. The root canal went flawlessly and in retrospect I'm so happy that the Dr. talked me out of pulling my tooth. Also, I want to add that all his staff was great including Fermin Paz the dental assistant who helped every visit go smoothly.

My dental insurance had them listed as a preferred provider. The moment I walked in Maria and Marisol were awesome they took my information and went about working me in to a very busy schedule. I waited a while and was seen by Dr Lee she explained what was causing the pain and the treatment options. Marisol explained the pricing of the different procedures and once I elected which way to go we proceeded to get a root canal. Dr. Lee and her assistant stayed over an hour and a half after closing to ensure that I left there pain free. The place and the people that work there are awesome I would highly recommend them.

Also when we got there they didn't pay us the gift card until our appointment for all 3 kiddos was over. I know they are mostly seeing medicaid patients and it doesnt look good that they are paying people like this and is probably not legal. We were taken to the examinations room to see Dr. Jacob and he clearly had a long night because he reeked of alcohol. He did a fast examination on my children and when it was time for them to have treatment done, Dr. Jacob said sorry mam, no parents in the back. He did an application of the fluoride to my youngest but my 6 yr old and 11 yr old both needed treatment. My 6 year old said he didn't do anything on him but when we asked for the billing statement it said that three fillings were done and billed to the insurance. My 11 yr old daughter needed 5 fillings done she said that Dr Jacob didn't even numb her and just started drilling her teeth. She said she told the doctor and the assistant that she was having trouble breathing but they wouldn't stop. I am reporting them to the board and any other agency that is in charge of handling in FRAUD AND ABUSE.

This was so much not professional things to do and they start taking kids to back to get some silver teeths that our other dentist never said they need before. We wait for it and my husband say we want to leave after the kids gots there silvers. They agree and we got our twenty dollars and when we are leaving the patient area in back and walking out, we see the dental nurse and Doctor Jacobs was both breathing from the mask and tubes of gas they give to my ninos. My husband was very mad and we do not know where we need to go to report this dentist and nurses for medicaid. This NOT a good place for anyones families. Next time I check Yelp and I listen to the other patient reviews. This place is no good and doctor is bad.
