Trees and lakes keep the air fresh, the noise pollution down and makes you feel like you escaped the city without leaving town. Plenty of people were enjoying the 69 degree weather. Some lounging in their lawn chairs, walking the dogs on the trail or canoeing on the lake. The boardwalk is especially nice for walking, for the structural metal strips keep it bike-free and peaceful. Meanwhile, there are many scenic trails through the trees that cyclists can enjoy. We completed the one hour/2.6 mile loop trail around the lake passing gorgeous heritage homes, a wedding taking place on the festival lawn and people fishing off the docks. Next time, I'm renting a canoe or kayak from the Deer Lake Boat rentals to see the park from a different perspective. Bonus:Parking and the views are free!

On a clear sunny day, this place beats any other concert venue: it's large enough for concert goers of all types to enjoy. You could easily make your way up to get close to the stage, or you could sit down on the lawn and listen to the tunes. Since the lawn tilts at an angle, it's easy to see the stage from almost anywhere, even if you're really far back. There are also a lot of food trucks to get food or drinks from, and there's a water station where you could fill up your water bottle. The only downside of this venue is that it's not very easily accessible by transit and parking is limited on a busy concert evening.

There is actually a school playground on top of the hill with monkey bars, slides, the usual. We started there and saw so many kids in this other playground at the bottom of the hill on this dome-like structure and wondered what it was. The 2 playgrounds are separate by a long fence so you have to go around it. And the swings were between the 2 playgrounds for some reason, isolated on its own. Once we got a close-up, we saw the inside of the structure was a series of paths allowing the kids to weave in-and-out and climbing different heights, and also includes a longer slide as one of the exits. More for older kids 5+ though as the younger ones will get lost in there. The bigger kids really liked exploring the different paths. And walking distance to Marine Gateway shops and Coco Tea if you want to grab a bbt/snack after the playground.

The playground equipment, which is due for an upgrade this year, was quite limited and only had two swings -- a regular swing and a bucket swing for toddlers. There were more swings in the playground at the school next door, but they were all regular swings and not suitable for younger kids, such as our niece who was two at the time. Luckily we didn't have to wait long for the one bucket swing to become free, and not many people came by while we were there, but a second toddler swing would be nice for busier days. Nice new park in SE Burnaby…read more Parking is available in the side streets. Plenty of spots (perpendicular parking) around the outer perimeter, but it does get quite busy during the summer months. There is a nice large playground in the middle of the park. The place is padded with some kind of spongy rubber compound instead of old school woodchips. Kids will never know what it feels like to fall and get 50 splinters in one's hands. They have it easy. There's also a water park with a giant bucket that tips over periodically and dumps a whole pile of water on people below. Actually pretty cool to look at. Reminds me of those drinking bird toys. Great place to hold gatherings. Oh yeah, there are some nice paths running along the length of the park, as well as some nice shelters in the picnic area. The grass is well maintained too.

As well there is a giant kids water play area. The day we went it was super sunny and busy. We were one of the groups having our BBQ. I really like this park. It is close to the skytrain (about 5 blocks away) or you can take a bus that would stop right in front. The park is definitely well maintained. No garbage laying around. Because it is right beside the community center, no need to worry about dirty outhouses or public outdoor park washrooms.
