Their busiest weekend is the 2nd Saturday of each month when they get over 100 people coming in for a meal. Father Tony is a very generous and caring individual. He is down-to-earth as well as funny. He welcomes anyone to come in to volunteer whether daily or monthly. This is a great place to volunteer if you are looking for something to do on the weekend. I thoroughly enjoyed myself when I helped serve meals a few weeks ago.

The fact that they always have little stories to tell me about him tells me they're spending quality time and engaging with him. The teachers all said hello to us and chatted - another good sign. The administration was probably the best we've seen - you can tell they love their jobs, they love children, and treat your babies as they would their own. They take 1 year olds and up. 1 year old must be off a daytime bottle and taking a few steps. The price is competitive and I love that they have part time options to start getting the kids adjusted if you want. We have not placed our baby in a preschool yet, but Seven Oaks remains at the top of our list.

They even offer free classes to ensure you're not going to kill your plants! They come to your house and build a raised garden! And fill it with FOOD! What more do you need?! This is the first "daycare" my child has ever been to in his life and he started at 2 and a half…read more I've been able to keep him home with me since he was a newborn since I work remotely and have had family help throughout my work days. But now that he's getting older, he needs more stimulation and more activities and more interaction than just being at home with family. So I decided to put him here, part-time. He goes here two days a week And this child development center has been a game changer for him. His speech is getting better, he's learning new words and phrases, and he loves all of the activities and playtime that is scheduled every day that he gets. This place is a little pricey, as it is almost $900 for two days a week, but I can walk there from my house, which is very convenient and he's not even a mile away from me while I'm working, which is important to me. So if there's an emergency, any flooding anything that would make me nervous about him being away from me, I can literally get to him very quickly and pick him up. This place is very much recommended as they are very secure, there is a code you must enter to open the door and they have armed police officers on the property for pick up and drop off. The teachers are very sweet and all of the administrative staff seem to know every child and parent by name. Highly recommended if you are willing to pay for the extra amenities. Oh, and I almost forgot, one of the best things that they have is an actual app where they send a push notifications when their diaper is changed, when they eat and what they eat, and when they take a nap. So you're able to see what your child is doing while you're away.!! And at the end of the day, they give you a detailed report of what activities they did and how they contribute to their developmental progress AND they add pictures of your child doing the activity!!

The staff here was great - they are very up to date in the technology they use. Check-in is quick and easy via computer at the front door, security is tight - there are security officers at the entrance to the parking lot and entering the facility required a code entered into a keypad. The classrooms are well kept up, clean and picked up at the end of each day. I found the teachers to be warm, excited to see the children, and willing to give extra attention when needed. One of the things I really liked was the app they used to post updates throughout the day - meals, diapers, naps and pictures were posted to keep you updated on what your child was doing every day as well as provide drop-off and pick up alerts. In her 6 months there her vocabulary grew immensely, she started learning letters, counting, colors and animals. I felt they were teaching her and not just watching her while I worked.

The group I was with had set up our volunteer project beforehand. It's not that lengthy of a process to do. We showed up and were taken to where we were going to volunteer and we were on our way. Our mission was to help feed the people that came in for a meal. They had this down to a science, it moved so smoothly that it felt like a video game almost. Everything was done so efficiently that it was over so quickly that it felt like we were only there as decoration. I'm not complaining, they have been doing this longer than any of us that came to volunteer. After we were done with clean up we were give a tour of the building. We also had a sit down meeting where we were explained everything that they offer to the community. This is just one site that they oversee. Like I said, it was an honor.

My experience with the New Orleans Mission was very disappointing and concerning. I went there…read moreexpecting to receive help during a difficult time, but I felt that the main option being pushed was becoming a "disciple." When I said I did not want to become a disciple, I was told I could only stay for two days. What concerned me even more was what I was told about the disciple program. Once you agree to become a disciple, you are required to turn in your phone and other electronics. You are also unable to freely leave, and there are restrictions that can affect your ability to work or have your children attend school. I was also told that disciples are sent to Lynhaven in Hammond. I was told that participants could not keep things like their credit cards, phones, or other personal belongings. From my perspective, having your communication devices and access to the outside world restricted felt extremely controlling. It did not feel like the type of support I expected from a mission that is supposed to help people who are already vulnerable. I understand that programs can have rules and structure, but people seeking shelter and assistance should be given clear information about those rules and should feel respected and safe. Based on what I experienced and was told, I personally felt uncomfortable with the program and the level of control involved. It felt more like a cult-like environment to me than the supportive assistance I was looking for. I hope the New Orleans Mission takes concerns like these seriously and considers how these policies affect people who come there seeking help.
