I made lots of friends in the outdoor dining area since I have my sweet dog. My new friends recommended hamburgers & the BLT. I decided to strike out on my own & ordered the Country Fried Steak with white gravy. Now I'm from Texas & I love CFS, so when I tell you it was good, that means something!!! It was fresh & hot! Fresh okra that you can tell was hand breaded (amazing, my first of the season since we've had so much rain in LA)! The onion rings were also awesome. The ranch was a little runny but it tasted great (I just would have liked more sticking to the ORs)! Patty was great!!! Super helpful & attentive. She brought my pup water & then brought him refills. That has never happened to me before! Doggie owners, I felt welcomed. All that plus a really nice fruity cake for dessert cost $23.58! I feel weird giving my meal a 10 (since I'm from TX & the food is a Texan staple) but it's well deserved. Great ending to a very long day driving!

My husband got vinegar based pulled pork and baked beans and he thought they worked well together. I prefer the KC bbq sauce to the other options, the tomato bbq sauce tasted more like a sweet weak salsa to me and I personally don't care for vinegar. I think I'd probably order the same thing again next time, though I was a little curious about the burgers (which come either as double 2oz smash burgers or a 5 oz regular burger for a small upcharge.) The Greenwood Family Restaurant is a beloved local dining spot with a "real-American feel, known for its classic home-style cooking, country-style meals, generous portions, and friendly service. It has been operating since 1952 in Troutville, Virginia (just north of Roanoke). But it nearly faced closure permanently in 2021 when management announced on their social media that the restaurant would serve its final meals on June 19, 2021, citing pandemic hardships, staffing issues, and a prospective buyer. However before the scheduled closure, the community rallied behind the diner to keep it going, and new owners stepped in to purchase and run the business, continuing the tradition of home-style cooking. Today it operates with updated hours and is open Tuesday through Sunday. After finding out about this restaurant, I couldn't resist but to wake up early on a Wednesday morning to go have breakfast there. Got into my pearl white Lexus and took the scenic route to drive there, with the comfort of music from my car radio in the background, while enjoying the beautiful view. I knew I had arrived when I saw the restaurant's iconic road sign which immediately stood out. I was very impressed by how well the building was maintained throughout all these years. Inside, it looked new but with that "real-American" diner feel of the past. I was greeted by a friendly young lady who welcomed me and asked what I wanted to drink while I looked at the menu. I asked for coffee. When she came back with my hot coffee I placed my breakfast order of a Greenwood Omelet with white toast and Southern fried apples. As she went to place my order, I studied the menu some more and was surprised to see so many Southern items that I liked and are not always easy to find. Items such as Country Style Steak, Catfish Filet, Fried Clams, Pork Tenderloin, Center Cut Country Ham, Fried Okra, Corn Fritters, and homemade Cobblers, among other things. I enjoyed the ambiance of the place: the colors the walls were painted, its hardwood floors, its large windows that brought in the light, and its cozy fireplace in the back dining room. I invite you to view my photographs accompanying this review to get a better sense of the place and the high-quality of their food. When my food arrived it was delicious. The omelet was filled with fresh items and cooked just right to perfection. The Fried Apples tasted great. Even the buttered toast looked so appetizing and tasted so good. And the coffee was quality coffee. Other customers came in to also e joy a wonderful meal and dining experience. In conclusion, if ever you're near the area I highly recommend you came and try it out. You will not only enjoy a comfortable and amazing dining experience, but will discover first hand why this diner is so beloved by the community.

I was hoping for at least some of the hospitality and delicious country food of years past visits (1980's/1990's). This is definitely not the same as it once was. The food was decent enough, but nothing so spectacular that I would drive out of my way to return for. The wait staff was distantly friendly, but efficient. The owner/manager was quite rude and uninviting to the extent of being insulting and condescending. I accepted the change in food and atmosphere, but I will not return after being treated so rudely by the person in charge. The restaurant takes cash only but does not tell you that until you try to pay, then degrades you for not knowing. There is an atm as your only option to get cash to pay for the overpriced meal, but it charges a ridiculous fee. When I apologized for not knowing the cash only policy, the owner/manager rudely informed me that is why there is an atm and a fee for using it and that everyone already knows they only take cash. Everyone except "outsiders". She continued to make snide comments about non locals coming in there trying to pay without cash and next time if we plan to eat to bring cash or pay the atm. The owner/manager was also obsessed with loudly complaining about noone wanting to work. Perhaps her attitude could be a reason? Also, while eating, there was an employee in the kitchen area coughing, snorting, spitting and genuinely being nasty around food being prepared for customers. Again, not a good impression or one that I would ever make a return trip for. So sad considering there aren't many options in the area.

And that is precisely what I discovered when I visited Top Dawgs Pub & Deli for the very first time this late afternoon for a late lunch and early dinner. This casual family-owned and operated American restaurant for over 12 years is located in the Roanoke/Botetourt County area and is known for its pub fare like hot dogs, burgers, and wings, with a large selection of craft beers and Coke products. When I arrived, I immediately noticed this family-oriented restaurant's community-focus. There were signs up of Family Meal Box, Taco Tuesday Family Pack, Karaoke Every Other Saturday, and Sunday Funday. There were couples, young and older dining there, as well as families. It's dog-themed decor was very unique, with dogs pictures all around the walls. It had seating areas with high tables and chairs, low tables and chairs, and chairs at the bar counter. The large screen high definition TVs were set at an appropriate distance so one could conveniently watch a game while dining there and having some beers. As soon as I entered, a young lady in the back asked me to seat at the table of my choice, and then she came down to bring me a menu and take my drink order. Even though they had an extensive selection of beers, since I was driving, I opted for an iced-cold Coke. To dine I started out with a Bam Bam Shrimp appetizer. The shrimps weren't Jumbo as described in the menu, but tasted delicious with the bam bam sauce. And to dine I ordered a Cowboy Burger that came with in-house made potato chips that were out-of-this-world and a Cheezy Dawg. The burger came in a fresh, soft bun and the patty was juicy and cooked to perfection, although the bacon inside was not crispy and I couldn't see the onion ring inside, it tasted good with the cheddar cheese and BBQ sauce. The home-cut potato chips were just amazing. Best I've ever had. And the hot dog was an all beef quarter pound jumbo hot dog, split in the center and had chili, cheese, onions, and mustard, also in a fresh hot dog bun, and I added some ketchup as well. My server Tammie made sure to refill my drink without me having to mention it to her. For dessert I had their Fried Oreo Cookies and they tasted amazingly delicious. The best I've ever had. They were about 5 or 6 fresh Oreo cookies dipped in a light batter and fried mildly, then sprinkled with sweet powder sugar. They were so good and I was so full that I took 3 of them home with me to have as a snack later on. To pay, my server brought me a convenient little machine, where I paid with one of my credit cards, including my tip, Overall it was an extraordinary, relaxing dining experience and I highly recommend this restaurant when you want to have a truly enjoyable American meal.

One always has a delightful dining experience here. Today, I decided to dine there on the way to going to watch the Actic Productions musical of Into The Woods which was being performed at the D. Geraldine Lawson Performing Arts Center in Fincastle, Virginia. I arrived soon after they had opened at four in the late afternoon. A friendly young lady greeted me at the Host's station right at the entrance of the restaurant and after asking me where would I prefer to seat, took me to the table of my choice. Studying the menu it was not easy to choose what to get from the great variety of dishes. But by the time my sever Kaylee arrived with a big smile and welcoming attitude I had made my decision. I would start off with a Mojito Mocktail to drink. As appetizer I ordered their Coconut Shrimp, followed by a House side salad with Balsamic Vinaigrette dressing. And as my main entrée, their 8oz Filet cooked medium-rare. I asked the server for the items to be spaced out and to have the salad before the main entrée. The Mojito Mocktail tasted wonderful. As I was enjoying it a young gentleman server assistant brought me the Coconut Shrimps and they looked amazing. They were enormous in size, very crispy on the outside and fresh and moist in the inside. One of the best that I have ever had. I invite you to view my photographs accompanying this review to get a better sense of the place and the high-quality of their food. Then came the salad which also looked and tasted wonderful. Almost right after bringing me the salad, they brought me the main entrée of the Filet cooked to perfection with a loaded Baked Potato. I don't like when this happens, but the food was so good that I patiently ate it and then asked to speak to the manager. There was no manager on site but the person in charge of the kitchen came to see me and I explained the concept of timing to him as a constructive criticism, letting him know that everything was so exquisite that I was not upset, just wanted him to know so that in the future when this is corrected both the other customers and I could have a more pleasant dining experience and enjoy our food better. For dessert I had their Strawberry Shortcake and it was amazingly delicious with a scoop of vanilla ice-cream in the middle. This was the Grand Finale of an excellent meal. The incident of the timing, suddenly didn't seem to matter that much because they took my feedback gracefully and I was able to teach them a lesson in fine dining. In conclusion I continue to highly recommend this restaurant and am looking forward to returning to try one of their other amazing items from their menu.
