Expensive to park. If you want to know where your £500,000 "for Wendover to mitigate the impact of HS2" went take a look at the buildings for the restaurant. This is what all the money was spent on. Worth it? No because the build involved sacking off the previous Cafe which was locally owned and run and was brilliant. In its place this faceless building run by a chain from Birmingham, more expensive and not nearly as good. read more

If you've got kids, and live in NW / W London, then head out to Wendover Woods one weekend for fresh air, trees, and the highest point of the chilterns. Most of the paths are buggy friendly, and there's a cafe with decent food to start, and end your walk. We took our 1/5/9 year olds and they all had fun. You can walk round an old hill fort - though the only remains are raised earth. There's a go ape here, but you have to be 10 and are reasonably tall to go on - so not for juniors. There's a great kids play area however, with plenty of climbing and swings for the little 'uns. Kids love it. Make them walk, or take bikes. If it's a sunny day ARRIVE EARLY or everything fills up. There's plenty of spaces for picnics, and even some barbeques set out for your use. Do pay parking though - £5.90 for the day - it goes to the forestry commission to help look after the area. Wendover Woods is a lovely place to visit whatever time of year. Remember to pay the car parking chare mind! Or park at the bottom of the hill just outside Wendover and walk up the hill. The cafe in the centre is excellent, with a nice range of cakes and the sandwiches are well presented. There is a play park for the kids - but do remember their wellies because it gets really mucky in the winter. Loads of trails to walk around. And if you are feeling particularly mad for it you can climb through the trees with Go-Ape. read more

Right on our doorstep and a great place for walks, picnics, teaching the children to ride their bikes or for taking the dog for a walk. There is a charge for parking and a cafe in teh parking area for refreshments. There are many walks through the woods, a great place to entertain the children for a few hours with the childrens play area. Spend some time watching the people on Go Ape up in the treetops if like me you aren't brave enough to have a go yourself. Watch the squirrels running around and up and down teh trees or find a fallen tree to just sit and relax. A wonderful place to get away from the hustle and bustle of town life. So close to all the local towns but you feel miles away. read more

This place is all round great! And now to top it it has go ape which is an amazing idea!! The woods are a great place to go walking / have a picnic or even BBQ which they have there or you already! Beautiful views of Wendover and the surrounding countryside which is great. I really do recommend a visit! read more

Wendover is amazing!!If you want to get out of the city and do a bit of hiking and get some fresh air, Wendover is the place to go. I can't wait for a more warm weather, so that I can go hiking, bbq or some picnic, why not. Just grab a blanket and sit there and smell the fresh air, read or listen to the sound of the place. If you don't know the area, then the main entrance and car park to this area can take some finding. But it is worth it. To start with there is a large organised car park. The walks through the woods and the surrounding areas are also well organised and laid out, many of them along wide tracks which are flat and level making them ideal for the older generation to walk along, but also ideal for cyclists. The tracks also don't tend to get very muddy in the wet. There are also numerous activities for the kids (or even young at heart adults!!), including the rope walks and swings back near the car park. More of an occasional treat (because they are expensive to get onto) but they are fun and very tiring. If you just want to let the kids do that then there is a coffee shop nearby that serves a wicked carrot cake. Great day out for all the family. read more

I have spent many afternoons walking in Wendover woods. Obviously there is all the fabulous Chiltern scenery to look at when you get to the vantage points.It goes on for miles.I have a criticism though. The maps of the various trails are highly misleading ( a fact which all the seasoned walkers you meet there will attest to) and led to me putting my elderly mother and son in a very frightening situation one Sunday afternoon. We arrived about 3 pm and set off following the map ,on one of the shorter routes shown .As time went on I realised that we were lost and that the number of people about was dwindling rapidly. We asked everyone we met and were sent off in varying directions. The light was going, my mother was having difficulty with the hills (we had not planned to be on a hilly trail)and I realised that the last walker had directed us to the wrong carpark, miles away from the one we had used. The light went ,the trees began to sway and the rain started. Eventually with the help of a kind soul we finally found our way back. The responsibility weighed heavily on me . A plea. Please update the maps and put better markers and signs on the trails. read more

You get a number of different walks in Wendover Woods for all abilities. The views of the surrounding area are stunning. It's a great place to have a picnic or BBQ. I recommend a visit. read more

Lovely woods for walking with various routes available for differing abilities tho the pushchair friendly aren't 'that' friendly in my opinion! Really need a robust buggy. Lovely cafe and plenty of eating areas or picnic places so bring a blanket. Also visited here for 2 children's parties and the rangers were fab. Children's play area can get very muddy/boggy so bring wellies as the kids love exploring and it's a shame to stop them cos they don't have appropriate footwear or change of clothes. Overall well worth a visit with or without children. read more

i like nature and been here couple of times but i love it.in first time i didn't knew it where to park and it one way for long time so you can't make a u turn and you have to keep going.but it is good when you reach there.when i went there it was raining and could buy any thing to eat. read more
