It may be in the middle of nowhere, but it's a bloody good pub!…read more Radio Springs is the most fantastic and weird mix of a tiny little local, constantly buzzing with the inhabitants of Lyonville, and quite a fancy restaurant, offering some pretty delicious (though not super cheap) dinner options. I had the steak with garlic sauce which was pretty damn drool worthy. The chips & vegies on the side were great too. Radio Springs is a little bit like visiting someone's house- you can sit on the open verandah area and have a beer if the weather is nice, feast on dinner around the fireplace with a live band in the background if that's what suits, or head around to the red room at the back, where you'll feel transported to a different era in the rather elegant and dimly lit dining room. This one is worth a visit for the overall experience. Don't expect a regular restaurant as this place is in a world of it's own, but I'm not complaining!

The music is ragtime and 1940s things and the bartender is nowhere to be seen. It's only when the song had finished and one of hem stands up and walks round the other side of the counter that it sinks in. This is pub full if the most intimate of locals, locals from all around. There are actual hotel facilities (unlike several places in Melbourne called a Hotel, which are in fact only a pub). From what I heard they're reasonable rooms and in nice surroundings when the sun's up.

So of course I rang the bus company straight away and spoke to a guy by the name of Bill. He wasn't too reassuring, saying the bus I was on may not get back to the depot until 10pm that night. He asked me what bus I was on, but not being local I couldn't tell him. So he asked me for the number on the back of my Myki card, and with that he was able to track down which bus I was on. Bill rang me back within two hours to say he has my backpack there at the bus depot. I can't tell you how much I was relieved. And nothing was missing.

It is actually a part of the park surrounding Lake Wendouree, but it certainly does stand out with not just its beauty, but the numerous gorgeous statues that are scattered about the place. Yeah, these statues, all of them mythological in nature, is what I really liked about these gardens, and they haven have a small hut that is dedicated to statues. Okay, not all of them are mythological since there is a path called Prime Minister's row, upon which are busts of all of Australia's former Prime Ministers. Anyway, these gardens are definitely worth checking out.

Sure, the beer selection isn't all that great, but that is something that I have sort of come to expect. However, the service was great, and the atmosphere rather friendly. Yeah, it was a delightful pub, and the beer garden wasn't bad either.

It is only a short walk around the corner from Main Street making it nice and convenient. The owner is friendly and welcoming giving it a bed and breakfast feel. He was very accommodating and changed us to a bigger room without us even asking when he knew we had a travel cot. What we found especially appealing was the ability to book for just one night on the weekend - something many other options didn't provide. The king deluxe room we had was large, well equipped, clean and tidy which at the price range easily met our expectations.

What as a shame was that when we came here their cook wasn't available, but that isn't really their fault, especially since this is a rather small country town. Yeah, this place was actually really quite charming, and sort of reminded me more of those pubs in the leafier parts of the city as opposed to out in the country. They did have some nice beers, and the service was pretty good as well.
