Its an ideal Family Day out and great fun for Children of all ages. For children its a great opportunity to feed and cuddle the smaller animals, and watch the farmers go about there daily activities - collecting eggs and ploughing the fields. Children can also ride on Mini-Tractors in the childrens farmyard and have a ride on the much loved Pony named Barney!! The Farm is home to mainly Cows and Sheep and some rare breeds, it also has a resident Llama, Goats, Deer and Birds of Prey including some very cute Owls. The Farm also has the Cartwheel Cafe which is located in the Old Stables and has a covered BBQ area and a lovely courtyard which is great in the evenings. The Cafe serves good homecooked food and offers a Grill menu with delicious Homemade Burgers and Steaks. It's also a great place for Childrens Parties and they also hire out the Function Room for private parties, weddings and special events. The Farm park is open all year round and costs £6 for Adults and £4.50 for children Well worth a Visit

Access is via a rough and ready trail off Nant-y-Gamar Road. Admission these days is free, which you can't complain about, although there are charges for some activities such as pony or tractor rides but these are very reasonable. You can also purchase bags of food to feed the animals. The farm park is precisely what you might imagine a farm park should be with a few extras. You'll find a collection of all the usual suspects including cows, sheep, horses, goats, chickens, ducks and an enormous fat pig called Boris. Less expectedly you'll find deer, llamas, a rhea and a kookabura named Sheila. You can explore the park on foot or take a guided tour on a tractor. The park is also the home of the North Wales Bird Trust where you can visit their bird of prey display. This is great if you like owls as they have a collection of owls of all sizes and from all corners of the planet. There isn't much other than the owls so if you don't like owls you might be disappointed! The park also has a kids play area and a courtyard crammed full of pedal powered tractors. There's also a very nice cafe and bar with an outdoor courtyard which now has a wood fired pizza oven. There's also a function room which is licenced for weddings. Personally I enjoyed my visit although living in a semi-rural area there wasn't much of a novelty for me in seeing cows and sheep in fields. However the kids had a great time and I could imagine that anyone who lives in an urban area would love to get close up with the animals. All in all an enjoyable couple of hours, especially given that admission is free.

Windmill Animal Farm is fab for kids. I don't have kids but didn't have much trouble finding some -…read moremy friend desperately needed a day off. Problem solved. So off we go, it was a Saturday and gorgeous weather. So, we were hoping that it wouldn't be too busy given it was a Saturday and not raining. Well we weren't disappointed, although fairly busy, the farm staff were well organised and kept all us all in check. The kids and I started off on the steam train, with the idea that we would get a good idea of where everything was from the ride (well this is what I thought), the kids were more concerned with just going on a train. Half way around we stopped off at the Lake View and the kids played while I chilled out and absorbed the view. After that we got back on the train and finished the journey. The farm has some pedal tractors that kids use to go around the farm on. They looked great fun to me, but I had so much trouble convincing my friends kids that they should try them too. So after much convincing and no way forward, I gave up and instead they went off to the Children's Pet Area where they got to feed and play with the animals. A great day out and thoroughly enjoyed by us all.

I love this farm. A day trip today was no exception! My other half and I are both animal lovers and…read morewhile we didn't take kids with us, it's a perfect day out for kids. First off when you arrive parking is easy enough with plenty of space. Entry is £6 for adults (£7.50 for kids, and there's family ticket and concessions too). It's £1 for three bags of food (which is well worth it!) There's a small café as well as plenty of picnic benches near the entrance along with a kids playground. Just before the barn, quite often they have birds of prey in or creepy crawlies, both of which have been there on previous trips and you're allowed to get hands on. In the farm itself you can see pigs, donkeys, deer, llamas, alpacas, horse, cows, goats and all the sheep! New this year were also wallabies. They have lamb feeding at set times that you can get involved in too. They've also grown a maze made out of maize which is good fun. Finally there's a small train that you can jump on if your little ones are a bit tired!

Full disclosure: I've never been to an animalarium or zoo in the U.K. All of my experience with zoos has been in the U.S. This zoo is filthy, dated, and very sad. There is a wide variety of animals there, from Sheep and Goats to Lions, Linx, and exotic monkeys. None of the enclosures seemed big enough for the animals. This was especially noticeable for the Leopard, Crocodiles, large snakes, and Lions. I was also concerned about safety. The big cats were separated from the public by little more than chicken wire and there was one disinterested, young, female employee with the lions. Moreover, the enclosures were dirty, stinky, and overrun with weeds. I felt sorry for all of the animals. Allegedly, all of these animals are rescued and rehomed and my two year old enjoyed the animals, so 2 stars seems appropriate.

The Animalarium at Borth near Aberystwyth is something of an eco-zoo. The enclosures are made out…read moreof wood rather than steel and concrete and many of the animals are former pets which had been abandoned. Having said that it is still a zoo and the animals are kept in cages. Most of the animals are small including lots of little monkeys and there are a lot of reptiles as well although there are leopards, crocodiles and ocelots if you want something a bit more carnivorous. The downside for me was the cost of admission which I felt was way too high given the size of the zoo. On the plus side you could buy tubs of nuts and grapes to feed to the monkeys which my daughter really enjoyed. It's probably worth a look if you've got some cash to spare.
