We booked a Sunset Sail, which is a 1.5 hour trip around the bay, and we were glad to be joined by 2 other couples and 1 other pup! (If you're counting, that makes 8 humans and 3 dogs aboard!) You can also book a private trip, which is slightly more expensive of course. Captain Ro and Kaled were a great team and made us feel safe, comfortable, and welcomed. It was a beautiful day to sail (week before Labor Day weekend) and Captain Ro allowed us to climb onto the deck once we killed the engine and were out in the bay. These trips do not guarantee animal sightings but we did see a whole group of seals bobbing their heads out of the water watching us as we sailed on by, which was extremely endearing to see. FYI the crew provides life vests for the pups and you can bring whatever you want to eat/drink aboard to enjoy.

We had the BEST fucking time going paddle boarding thanks to Provincetown Aquasports…read more Literally almost every vacation with water remotely in the vicinity, I suggest GF and I go paddle boarding and some way or another, we always come up with an excuse. Today was the day we were ACTUALLY going to do it. I spent the moments tossing and turning in bed the preceding night panicking about the sharks and how I would have to kill myself if I witnessed a great white shark eating my GF whole (totally possible, she's 4'10" and it would just require 1 mouthful). I built up the courage by around 10:30am and we walked the short distance from our guesthouse to PA. After signing the paperwork that indemnifies them of any disastrous circumstance, the whole experience was seamless. You can rent lockers OR a waterproof bag to store your shit while Aquasporting. The man who showed us our life jackets and then brought the shit down to the water with us was very nice. His accent was difficult to understand but paddle boarding is simple enough. We were able to paddle board about for what I was certain was at least an hour and a half but turns out it was only 40 minutes. I think the thing cost like $80 for the two of us. The only reason for the 4 stars instead of the 5 is because the guy who checked us in was really impatient and seemed easily irritated. I got some 'tude when I thought he wanted BOTH of our IDs instead of just one as collateral while we were out. Chill. The attitude was worth the really fun experience we had tho.

And up to 4 reciprocals at all of the FBC's in the US. No fuss boating - turn on the engine and go and when you are done, just check-in and pay for gas - no more boat cleaning, no more worries. I am boating more than when I owned my own boat; enjoying it more; entertaining friends on the boat more; and probably not having more annual boating expense.

Each time, the six hour trip is a different adventure, dependent on the wind and what we want to do that day. One year we just cruised up and down Herring Cove beach, taking the motorized jetty out so we could run some of the waves. One year we stayed in the Bay and looked at seals (as well as the normal Provincetown otters and bears). This past week, with limited wind, we just relaxed on the boat in the middle of the bay, jumping into the water when drinking white wine on-deck became too demanding. Six men (plus the captain, Chris) fit very comfortably on the deck, and Chris is beyond patient with our (still) pretty basic questions on the sailing life. He has great stories and is incredibly friendly. This is always a highlight of the week for us. With a stunning backdrop of Provincetown, an great captain, and a beautiful boat, there's nothing else like it.

There was no expectation to even see any whales, because I know there are never guarantees with nature.. But it was a very special trip with our children and our neighbor from California who recently lost his spouse. I called after 10 AM when I saw there was a 1 PM opening for a private charter, Chad immediately called me back and even though it took me quite a while to rally the troops, he held this spot for us. He definitely went over and above. Then Captain Jesse I told him I'd write a Cell was the icing on the cake by his kindness, knowledge, excitement, and so much more. Oh, and by the way, we saw at least a dozen different whales. There was tail slapping breaching spy, hopping.... And since we were in a small boat, we were able to zip around to see everything. It is well worth the money to do this. Big boats are fine, but this was something that will be embedded in our hearts forever.

Second (and most fun), Joe was a commercial fisherman. So he knows how to catch fish. I've gone out with him several times and am always surprised - he will pull up to a spot that is popular for the day (I.e., where 20 other charter boats are), see if we land anything in a few minutes, and if not it's lines and in and we are off to the next spot. This is very different than other charters who will troll the same spot all day when nothing is biting. Joe's boat is ample size for small groups - our most recent trips was 5 adult males, Joe and his mate, so 7 people total. Everyone had a seat and was comfortable. The boat appears to be well maintained, stocked with fishing gear, and has plenty of fish finder / radar / radios / other electronics. Looking forward to next summer!
