EXPLO... a middle school summer program run at Wellesley. We are contemplating sending my 8th grader this summer. So, we journeyed out to Wellesley to learn more and get a look at where she might be living for 2 weeks. A beautiful New England campus. Think brick- lots of brick! But there are some modern buildings squished in. It's February and covered in snow so we didn't totally take the campus in but I can share I did roll quickly into Davis Museum. I spent an hour in the Alumni ballroom. Think hardwood floors, chandeliers and walls lined by famous alumni females! (across from the parking garage for the win!) read more

Came to visit my niece for family & friends weekend. Expected to just drop in check her dorm, be bored & leave as soon as we can, but boy i was wrong. We ended spending most of the day there. The campus is very beautiful, sorrounded by nature, interesting architecture & even the cafeteria food was exceptional! If i have to choose a college to go i would go here! I feel a very progressive, open & very intellectual vibe all over the campus. read more

Years since I graduated, and as I look back and compare Wellesley to all the other institutions of higher learning to which I can compare it, Wellesley tops them all. I didn't know at the time how great it really was... but then we were all on the same menstrual cycle then. Not pretty. The campus is gorgeous and largely safe. The academics are top notch. Even the food was pretty good. The social scene was pretty cool... except for the insistence that religion is for backwoods hicks and not for intellectuals like us... I'm over that now... Thank God. And the place just gets better every year. The Wang Center is like a luxury ski lodge. Yay Wellesley! read more

What the what? Since when can you review colleges on Yelp? Anywho, Wellesley is a five-star education all around. As I approach the five year anniversary of my graduation, I still get the warm fuzzies when I think about my time at Wellesley. Of course at this point, I only remember the good stuff. But I met the best people in the world at Wellesley and I wouldn't trade that experience for anything. read more

I am not going to lie and say getting through Wellesley way easy. It wasn't the academics, or the social scene, or the location or the insane expectations of perfection...it was all of them! But, it will turn you into a real person with ideas and values. You might have to wade through some hard times and lots of sunsets in front of a computer screen but I promise, it is worth it! And for those who are checking this out and a) not a woman or b) not of college going age then you might want to check out the great food in the student center. Cheap sushi and great salad bar. or the beautiful trail around the lake. A little more than 2miles. read more

u do not have to be a college student to be in love with Wellesley college! I am entering Wellesley high school in the fall and love the college. My family and I go there for picnics all the time! It is the most beautiful grounds I have ever seen, bending trees, flowers, waterfall, fields, ponds crowded with water lilies, a brook, another ponds that is home to tons of frogs and even a swimming hole! (well technically ur not allowed in there but everybody goes in, its a total swimming destination. In the winter they have the steepest and scariest sledding hill around! It is famous for it's campus and a movie was even filmed ther :The mona lisa smile. read more

wellesley, hellesley, swellesley. take your pick. i've experienced all three versions. i've thought and felt like "wendy wellesley" and also "the anti wendy". however gruesome these 4 years were, i always think back and smile at all the memories - both good and bad. i go back about once a year now just to visit and it's always a nostalgic visit - it must be the lake or the beautiful trees. too bad the wang center was built the year after i graduated. read more

I wrote a review about this place a year ago and pulled it because I was worried that people might crowd me if its too public a place. Well actually after hanging out there for something like three decades or so, actually maybe four if you count the time my parents took me there as a child. This place is one of the most best kept secrets now in Boston/Metro West. There is a beautiful student center for good food, and very reasonable. There is a pond that is swimmable, but unfortunately because of the Canadian Geese, the former beach has turned into a giant Geese poop pit. Frisbee on the field next to the pond was once an activity that I engaged in surrounded by three dozen or more other people suntanning or playing volleyball. But the last few years they have put up no-parking signs on the street that is next to it, and people actually follow the signs. Not realizing that in the summer there are no students and the campus police might give you a ticket but the ticket is only to be paid if you are a Wellesley College student or teacher. As far as being a tow zone, thats only if you get three or more tickets. Which does not happen in the summer anyways. Besides frisbee, on a really windy southwest wind day that is blowing 15-25 knots, the windsurfing can be phenominal, however do not launch from the boat ramp, I have googled the situation with the former paint factory, and there are still lead deposits in the silt on that end, and chromium hexathingamajig something that was featured in the movie Erin Brokavich is reportedly thirty times higher than the amounts in the drinking water in that town in the movie... So if you do swim, avoid swallowing any water, supposedly for adults its not that bad. Besides that activity, last week I took my bike around the side near Pond street, I stumbled on an old foundation in the woods there, it seemed to have these odd sculputures and my theory is that there is a secret society that has meetings there maybe. This could just be an art project, but reading that wierd post this morning by D. Lee on the talk forum, is making me see conspiracies everywhere. Oh yeah before 3 on weekdays there is a gate at the big lot in the middle of the campus. There is a parking garage where you could go and from there you can access most of the campus. The only thing I can gripe about this place is that they turned the old tennis courts next to the old student center into a parking lot!? That was the coolest tennis courts in the world! Anyways check it out, its a great place for a nice summer day, better in the fall and spring ain't bad either... read more

Had an amazing year with Wellesley, amazing quality of education and great profs. The lake is really pretty no matter what season and the views on campus are picturesque everywhere (except for the dumpsters by the dorms if you're unlucky enough to get them). read more

Sadly, because of the archaic way the financial aid office evaluates admitted students, our daughter will not be able to attend Wellesley, her first choice. We literally stood naked (financially) in front of the financial aid committee and they said that we were not in need of financial aid. When they say they are "need blind" they are when it comes to paying for college - they are blind to the need of students. Asking a family that was devastated by the financial downturn and has spent the last 8 years digging out from under debt from trying to keep their businesses and home is not only cruel but irresponsible. Perhaps a spotlight should be shone on the process of evaluating need. We were told that because of our age and where we lived that somehow that made us ineligible for any aid. Don't get sucked into their marketing that they will make it possible for all students that qualify to attend - it is a lie. The way the system is now, unless you are rich and able to pay full fare or on the opposite end of the spectrum, don't bother applying. Our daughter worked very hard, got superior grades and did everything she could to be a wonderful candidate because Wellesley advertised that they would make it possible for people like her to attend their school. Other schools gave her presidential scholarships and grants and Wellesley refused to recognize her abilities and our inability to pay the full COA of $67,000 a year, which was $25,000 over our Expected Family Contribution. This isn't sour grapes, it is a cautious warning to other hard working, self-employed, middle class families that Wellesley will not give a damn about your situation or how hard your child worked to be admitted to their institution. This community doesn't want our children representing people like us. Save your application fee... read more

I received a top notch education from Wellesley. As a young mother, I was given a second chance to pursue my dreams through the Davis Scholar program. Many teachers were very accommodating to my situation and personal story yet had the same expectations for me as everyone else. I am truly grateful to have attended this wonderful college. read more

Beautiful campus. I like to visit my girlfriend here and walk around the lake. In the winter, townies come and slide down the hill in the snow. One thing that keeps me from giving this place all five stars is the lackluster food on campus. One student called it 'broiled beyond recognition'. Smith College has waffle fries in their campus center. Come on, Wellesley. read more

Stunning forested campus with its own pond and cool castle architecture. Great place for a weekend stroll or an afternoon picnic.

Haha I don't know why you can review a college but cafe hoop in the campus center basement is open 7-1 weeknights and 8-2 fri/sat!

The grade deflation policy is absurd. Top work will not get a top grade.no communication amongst departments. Although they accept very few transfer students and is easier to get accepted as a freshman.....they definitely favor those with seniority or legacies. Blatantly favor them. So if fairness is important to you, not here. Competitive and beautiful city and campus. read more
