This is our daughter's second year at the Wellesley Montessori School and we could not be happier here. I remember being incredibly nervous about our daughter's first day because she had (at the time) somewhat acute separation anxiety. A week before school started, we received a warm welcoming letter from her teacher that I read to her aloud. I could tell that the letter piqued her interest as she gave me a look as if to ask "Who was this teacher that wrote a kind letter to me?" On her first day, her teacher knew her name, greeted her with a warm hug, asked her questions about her summer, gave me a hug (which was important because it let her know that these adults were friends), and then pointed us to the upstairs classroom where we were introduced to various activities. The work stations and activities are incredible in their ability to teach cognitive skills and fine motor skills in ways that don't seem like onerous work. The counting beads, for example, allow kids to learn numbers and learn multiplication without them even realizing it. The way the teachers encourage the children to explore their interests fosters a sense of curiosity and confidence. To this day, I remember well the feeling of being so relieved and comforted because I knew we were leaving our daughter in great hands. In the two years since, my appreciation for the school only grows. The teachers are incredibly thoughtful and pay attention to all the small details in order to create a wonderful and nuturing learning environment for the kids. I will be forever grateful to the Montessori School, the Director, all the teachers, and parent committee for giving my daughter a truly special early childhood learning environment and giving me much needed peace of mind as a parent. read more
