I absolutely hate service stations, I find them incredibly depressing and the prices of food and drink are always overly inflated. That said I suppose they serve their purpose, don't they?
The Welcome Break at Cardiff Gate is rather small by service station standards; I see this though as a positive thing. You only ever really need to get petrol, run to the loo, grab a coffee so why some service stations appear to want to be shopping malls is beyond me!
There is of course the obligatory WHSmith present, and rather excitingly a brand new Waitrose has just recently opened. Like this service station this Waitrose is not exactly big, but considering Cardiff it self only recently got a proper Waitrose supermarket, I find this addition most welcome.
At present if you're after coffee or a sandwich there is currently a Café Primo, however there are plans to replace this with a Starbucks by this summer (they really are taking over the world aren't they?).
So by service station standards I'd give the Welcome Break at Cardiff Gate a strong thumbs up! read more
