She mentioned that she got her start taking a Lakewood Parks & Rec class at this place so I signed up. $40 for 8 weekly 45-minute sessions. So far I've attended three classes and I'm really enjoying it. The instructor, Janet, is really nice and fun and the 45 minutes just fly by, learning dances like Waltz Across Texas, Cowboy Hustle, and the El Paso Cha Cha. If you're looking for a Zumba-like workout this isn't it, but I do break a sweat and I figure any hobby that gets you moving is a good one! For the record, I am not a country music fan, but I don't mind it for this type of dancing. The Center itself is very nice, located in a quiet residential area near the corner of Lakewood and Candlewood. There is plenty of parking and we have our class in the spacious Activity Room. The best part has been feeling like a young whippersnapper (even though I'm 40) because most of my classmates are quite a bit older than me, hee hee!

Anyways, from my undergrad experience, the rock climbing wall was one of the best to get people into rock climbing. Secondly, the indoor running track provides space to the overall gym giving it a less crowded environment, and the equipment provided was well utilized. You often had people hogging the weight section so there was never really a good time to use that. The yoga and pilates classes or individual courses were offered but it never seemed to be around when a majority of students were available to use it. I really liked the Robeks that was on the first floor. I'm not sure if it's there anymore, but it's nice to had a large indoor seating area to eat before you actually went into the gym to study.

I start swimming at 6 opening time in the morning. Quiet, fresh, and fun to talk to the other swimmers. We have a challenge event to go to Catalina Island from LB from March and end in April. I almost finished one way to go there. I went to Catalina Island in the past and now I am back by swimming. Haha... super fun, relaxing in the beautiful upgraded heated pool, very spacious at the deck, lots of benches, and bbq area, jaccuzi, and etc. If you are a swimmer like me, you should come to try it out. If you love Aqua Aerobic, join the classes to workout w great music, awesome instructors everyday. You don't need to go to the other vacation resorts during Summer. Perfect get away to relax everyday.

Incredible, after taking aqua aerobics for over a decade, - enjoying every moment - we have finally landed in a class- for the last time - where leader brings nothing new to the table in terms of actual instruction, but manages to wring every drop of joy in what used to be elevating fun workouts - taking it all entirely too seriously.

And I'm glad I did. The Long Beach Blues Society was putting on a show. This group of volunteers are profession calibre who perform as they say "Blues in the Schools", Blues for Vets", and Blues for Seniors". The very talented drummer Tony Lopez brought down the house as did singer/harp player Neal Oldham, guitarist Rich West and bassist Mike Barry. They have an events mailing list and a well put together facebook page for seeing what's upcoming. Not only do they do their performing in municipal schools and facilities, but also public venues.

Pathways has changed my life for the better! I volunteer to assist two older women who don't drive…read moreand one is basically as shut in. I take them (separately, each has a full day of my time) to their doctor's appointments, shopping, to the hairdresser and always to lunch. I try to get them out of their houses to see life outside their four walls. Sometimes we just go for a drive, to the Wetlands or Point Fermin or any number of other places. Knowing these two women has enriched my life. I have become their friend. Since it is a volunteer position I do not get a salary per se but I am becoming a very rich man I n other ways. I love giving back, being of service to people who need assistance and I love the way it makes me feel about myself. And it's really a lot of fun. If you are retired and need something to do to feel good and productive as I did I highly recommend this wonderful program!

I took zumba class for the first time at the Y Lakewood this morning…read more I saw the aqua class around 8:30. The weather was great for the outdoor Aqua classes, not too hot, little breezy, fresh. I came here and did my lap swim about 2 years ago during pool maintenance at the Y Los Altos. The pool is big, heated, and has small hot spa (jacuzzi). The upstair cardio area is decent, has lots of upgraded machines, free weight area, and great view toward the outdoor pool. The studio for GroupEx classes is big, well air-conditioned, and clean. I stopped by women's locker room before class and noticed overall clean in the restrooms and shower. They have lots of classes for young members and seniors. Especially a variety of Aqua classes are very popular for the seniors such as Aqua fit, bootcamp, Aqua deep, and etc. The parking is big enough next to Von's market, Marshall in the large strip mall. They are like corporate gym such as 24 fitness, LA fitness. They have lots of choices for the pool activities and groupEx classes. Great workout place for family, even myself. The staff is so friendly.
