I arrived late in the evening due to a long journey and it was no bother for the landlady who was 110% welcoming and friendly. She is a bubbly lady who loves a chat. Her husband seems to run the dairy farm and he is a pleasant and friendly man too. I was made to feel totally at home. The accommodation is a converted barn and the rooms are wonderful and olde worldy. The breakfast was a total delight. I couldn't rate this place highly enough.

You have to park in the village car park and walk to the cottage. It will take about 10 mins to walk there and if it is a nice day then quite a nice walk. Unfortunatly it poured down and we had to run there! The cottage is fascinating, it has been restored to its orginal glory. They uncovered a wall panel dating back to the 16th century. You can walk around all the rooms and then view the garden. In the garden there is an unusual garden house that is worth seeing. Well worth it if you are in the area.

The first amazing thing about Higher Wiscombe is that, if you want to get away from it all, here,…read moreyou really can. It is in a stunning, beautiful rural location apparently miles from anywhere and has no neighbours apart from rare breed sheep. There are several self catering units on site, one of which is really big, and as it is graded 5 star these are at the top end of the market. The owners go to a lot of trouble to maintain their high standards and look after their guests, and they live on site. It isn't just the scenery that's green, the business is too and guests are strongly encouraged to recycle. Unless you are a walker, you'll need a car to explore the area, which is perhaps not so green, but Honiton station is not so far away so you could go there by rail and hire one locally. Supermarkets deliver despite the long drive - this is self catering after all. There is a small swimming pool and a recreation area.

I got a room in the attic which was very cozy and felt more like a guest room in someone's house than a hotel room. Slight minus that the hot & cold water was in separate taps and the shower was hand-hold only. Though it ads charm, it also makes it feel a little dated. The breakfast was 5* and their restaurant is mentioned in the Michelin guide. That's definitely beyond the basic B&B food you'd expect. Another minus is that Wifi is an extra £8/day, but lots of hotels charge for that in Europe.
