Our visit here was just OK. We stopped in on a weekend, during the Christmas Market, and they were…read morevery busy. Wait to be seated. The entrance did not offer a vestibule to stop the cold outside air from blowing in each time the door opens. We were sat directly in line from the door, so my scarf and sweater stayed on throughout our visit.
Our waiter seemed a bit put out. They weren't rude, just wanted us to decide so they could move on. As I have food sensitivities, I had questions. The answers received required me to change my order to fries, pretzel, carpaccio or baked potato or order the most expensive meat on the menu because all the other dishes include an item to which I have a reaction. (sigh) Not their fault, just a note if you do not eat pork products, the menu is limited.
The food took quite a long time to arrive. Our waiter did not return to ask if we wanted refills on our beverages or to check on us once the food arrived. As I mentioned, it was a busy night in town and the restaurant had a full house. Also, this is common in many restaurants in Germany, just flag down your wait person when you see them.
I ended up with a baked potato plate which is two baked potatoes, sour cream and dressed lettuce. The potatoes were well cooked, and came cut in half w/sour cream poured over the top and a grape tomato garnish. As you probably know, there is not much taste to just a baked potato and I did not have salt and pepper at our table, so not an interesting meal. The lettuce was fresh, heavily dressed in a vinaigrette. This is intended as a side to share and the cost of two potatoes and some lettuce, almost twenty euro, is higher than it should be imho.
My dining companion had a pork schnitzel that was covered in a brown sauce. He stated the sauce was a bit salty, which for them is saying a lot, but otherwise the schnitzel was enjoyed. The side potato salad for this dish was a small portion.
The restaurant is large, high ceilings, nice ambiance. Maybe it was the day we visited that made a difference but as my food options are limited here, and service was 'meh' I won't return. Other restaurants we visited while in town have traditional options and include more vegetarian and non-pork dishes. It is conveniently located between the cathedral and the tower. Parking on street or in a public lot.
