Very high quality standards in terms of food. But a rather small menu, as well as a traditional ambient.

Our ship docked here and we couldn't resist such a nice place. Good food, good service and good beer. We hope to be back another day.

Our visit here was just OK. We stopped in on a weekend, during the Christmas Market, and they were…read morevery busy. Wait to be seated. The entrance did not offer a vestibule to stop the cold outside air from blowing in each time the door opens. We were sat directly in line from the door, so my scarf and sweater stayed on throughout our visit. Our waiter seemed a bit put out. They weren't rude, just wanted us to decide so they could move on. As I have food sensitivities, I had questions. The answers received required me to change my order to fries, pretzel, carpaccio or baked potato or order the most expensive meat on the menu because all the other dishes include an item to which I have a reaction. (sigh) Not their fault, just a note if you do not eat pork products, the menu is limited. The food took quite a long time to arrive. Our waiter did not return to ask if we wanted refills on our beverages or to check on us once the food arrived. As I mentioned, it was a busy night in town and the restaurant had a full house. Also, this is common in many restaurants in Germany, just flag down your wait person when you see them. I ended up with a baked potato plate which is two baked potatoes, sour cream and dressed lettuce. The potatoes were well cooked, and came cut in half w/sour cream poured over the top and a grape tomato garnish. As you probably know, there is not much taste to just a baked potato and I did not have salt and pepper at our table, so not an interesting meal. The lettuce was fresh, heavily dressed in a vinaigrette. This is intended as a side to share and the cost of two potatoes and some lettuce, almost twenty euro, is higher than it should be imho. My dining companion had a pork schnitzel that was covered in a brown sauce. He stated the sauce was a bit salty, which for them is saying a lot, but otherwise the schnitzel was enjoyed. The side potato salad for this dish was a small portion. The restaurant is large, high ceilings, nice ambiance. Maybe it was the day we visited that made a difference but as my food options are limited here, and service was 'meh' I won't return. Other restaurants we visited while in town have traditional options and include more vegetarian and non-pork dishes. It is conveniently located between the cathedral and the tower. Parking on street or in a public lot.

But you be smarter than me and make a reservation!!! Seated in an upstairs dining room there are coat hooks on the wall, an old enameled stove as decor and maybe five tables in this cozy room with deep window sills and bench seating. We were given enough time to peruse the menu but we had checked out their menu on display outside the door and knew what we wanted. (btw: menu's in German but the waiter speaks English) My SO had the best Paprika Schnitzel he can remember ever having in our 30 years of visiting Germany. Wow. This guy loves Paprika Schnitzel! I had the small steak (200g) and it was so perfectly cooked medium and perfectly lean. I ordered it with herb butter which was exactly as flavorful as I'd hoped! You can also order it with pepper sauce or fried onions (your choice) and it comes with the house bread. Salad and other sides are a la carte. We paired our meals with a beer on tap and a dry red wine. They also have other bar items, and non-alcohol beverages. We didn't stay for coffee and dessert, but without a doubt we would happily return (with reservations) next visit!!!

After our usual walking tour and some window shopping we arrived at the recommended place and got a table. Ms T was not hungry and just wanted a pretzel. I wanted some kind of wurst and found one item that satisfied both; three weißwurst served with a soft pretzel. I wanted something with it and ordered creamy green beans. This was another simple but wonderful meal. I peeled the sausage as we were taught in Münich and ate them with the supplied mustard. The green beans are probably the best I have eaten. They were in a light white sauce seasoned with tiny cubes of ham, bohnenkraut (summer savory) and black pepper. They were absolutely delicious. I make something similar at home with cream instead of the white sauce, but unless I grow my own, I cannot get the high quality, fresh, slender beans that they have. Next time I will copy this version as well as possible. We each drank 0.5L of their house Pilsner which was excellent. Again, we had very friendly and helpful service in a very nice local place. It was another memorable meal on-shore in Germany.
