PLY is great because you can select individual pieces of lumber to buy, just like a regular lumber yard, and construct your own custom designs. You are not limited to packages or kits. The second major reason I like P.L.Y. is their quality of materials. The vinyl they sell always seems to be the thickest gauge, so it's more durable and stronger than some of the flimsier vinyl you may encounter. Likewise for their recycled plastic lumber, I found the wood-grain tongue & groove for my recent patio project to be excellent quality. Furthermore, they pack the materials well for shipping to minimize the chance of scrapes or dings. I've always been happy with PLY's staff. My sales rep. Christine for my fencing project was very helpful providing me with all the various shapes & sizes and accessories for my 3 different fence configurations. On my patio cover project, my sales rep. Christian was great to work with. Whenever I emailed him, he would respond quickly. He always provided informative and honest answers, whether it was questions about the materials, or ordering details or shipment status. At one point during a web site visit, I clicked on the "chat" link and was impressed to find that the person typing on the other end was Christian. You never know what to expect when you click the chat button on a web site, but at P.L.Y. you are chatting with a knowledgeable rep. The aluminum reinforcement members for the for the vinyl 2x6's I purchased worked out well. When encased in a PLY 2x6 vinyl rafter, these make perfect substitutes for wood 2x6's, and look beautiful. I used PLY tongue & groove with a wood grain underside over PLY aluminum-reinforced rafters to make a solid roof patio cover. You can make it waterproof if you caulk the joints with a top-of-the-line exterior sealant that you know will last indefinitely.

They will cut wood and laminated products to order (try getting that service at Lowe's or Home Depot) and the fee per cut is surprisingly reasonable. Hatboro also stocks mahogany and other furniture-grade woods. All of the employees are super helpful. Hatboro lumber is a huge asset to the neighborhood and community.

The only complaint we have is that they damaged our driveway with the mini-forklift, and they refused to reimburse us for the damage. I did not consent to them driving the equipment onto the driveway (I was inside the house), yet they claimed that I assumed the risk when I okay-ed the delivery crew to do that. So I probably would have given them 5 stars if it weren't for the way they addressed the issue with the drive-way.

I've been to the store no less than 5 times over the last two weeks and each time has left a sour taste in my mouth. Not sure if the "plant people" are employees, contractors, seasonal, nursery employees, or something else, but they routinely take the joy out of shopping. The mostly indoor permanent staff on the other hand are pretty good. But I can't look past the rudeness in the garden area!
