The restaurants does two settings per night with only a 5-course offering maximum for the first round. Regardless, the food was ample for the 5-course choice and I was more than pleased with the experience. While the space is quite small and the staff are always having to move in and around one another to include guests, it works and provides quite an intimate space. The menu is quite straight forward as are the wine pairings, making a choice quite simple so one can get to the meal quickly. The food and service were both great and I have no complaints. From the bread and butter service to the courses themselves, each was of high quality, great looking, and even better tasting. If you are not planning out weeks in advance, getting a reservation here might be a challenge. The wines were mostly German and again, high quality as the wine regions all offer great combinations with the food. All occasions can be served by a visit to Bidlabu and I'm glad I could fit in a reservation.

We ordered the schnitzel (absolutely delightful - still thinking about it months later!) and yummy sausages and a side of spaetzle. Drank a few very thirst quenching German beers. I've heard they have a white sangria wich is supposed to be quite good although I've not tried it. Service is relaxed and super friendly in a Spanish kind of way. I give it four stars not because it's haute cuisine, but because it's got good food reasonably priced and has a fun atmosphere. Will definitely be back.

I chose this restaurant because you can filter out allergy options on the menu. I told my server about my allergy, and he listed it back that no gluten was in what I ordered...... but did not take note of it anywhere else. When my steak was delivered... it had a fried onion on both sides of it. So while I appreciate Germany's law, needing to label allergy items.... none of the restaurants are educated on the allergies, and steps to take to keep items safe. I was able to eat around it, and my husband can eat whatever... but just slightly frustrating. We ordered the tomahawk steak, a date night favorite of ours. It was cooked perfectly. Served with sauces, but honestly, the sauces took away from how good the steak was. Ordered with some veggies and potatoes. I would order it again.

What a delightful experience!…read more I was a little surprised when we got here to find out that we wouldn't be dining inside the tower, which was what I had previously expected, but we had a great time nonetheless! You can make a reservation ahead of time online, but we found it didn't do anything special for us as we were told to just pick anywhere to sit and eat as it wasn't very crowded when we arrived. There is SOME indoor dining, but sitting outside is much more pleasant, especially in the summer. They have VEGAN SCHNITZEL on the menu, which was very exciting for me as I am of German heritage but am now vegetarian, so I haven't eaten schnitzel since I stopped eating meat. It was delicious and very satisfying! Also, you CAN go up in the tower. The restrooms are actually up at the top of the tower, which I found very interesting as I wouldn't think it would be ideal to install plumbing at the top of a 15th castle tower. Be sure to go check it out, even if you don't have to pee! Tip: if you order extra sauce, they will charge you for it. We were unaware of this as extra sauce is usually at no charge where we're from (the U.S.), so this is a warning to any Americans who plan to come here.

It was also close to where we were so we walked over for happy hour. Ambiance (3.5/5): This bar and restaurant is known for it's tower. From doing a little research, I found that there's limited seating in the tower. Unfortunately, this wasn't a possibility when we were there, so we sat out on their spacious patio. A bit of a bummer, but we made the most of it. The weather was nice so the patio wasn't a bad consolation prize. Al fresco dining is the way to go in Europe. Service (3/5): Pretty much your standard European service. Not terribly attentive, not terribly efficient, but it does the job. You'll have to track down your waiter here and there, but that's pretty much the standard in Germany and Europe as a whole. Food (N/A): We only stopped by for drinks so I can't comment on the food. Drinks (3/5): They have a pretty extensive cocktail list, and it was happy hour, so we were able to get a good deal on their adult beverages. The cocktails are pretty much standard cocktails, not a lot on the inventive side of things. I'm talking things like margaritas, mojitos, Hugos, etc. Eschenheimer Turn Cafe made for a nice break during a day of exploring. It just would have been fun to sit in the tower as it's their most distinctive feature.

When a Manager Becomes the Reason to Leave a Restaurant!…read more Our visit to Sunny Side Up was unfortunately one of the most unpleasant restaurant experiences we have had in a long time. We stopped by for breakfast before leaving Frankfurt and had already placed our order. I was carrying a paper bag containing a muffin from another shop. The muffin remained in the bag under the table the entire time. I neither ate it nor took it out of the bag. A young man who introduced himself as the manager then approached our table. Instead of addressing the situation politely, professionally, and discreetly, he loudly confronted me in front of other guests in an inappropriate manner. His attitude was aggressive, condescending, and disrespectful. Of course, a restaurant has every right to set rules regarding outside food. No one was questioning that. What was completely unacceptable, however, was the way he chose to treat paying customers. When I explained that I was not eating the muffin and expressed my concern about his behavior, he showed no interest whatsoever in resolving the situation constructively. On the contrary, when I said that we would rather leave under those circumstances, he essentially told us to go ahead. So we left the restaurant, leaving our already served coffee behind. In my opinion, anyone who treats guests in this manner is not suited for a customer-facing role, let alone a management position. Hospitality is not merely about enforcing rules; it is about treating people with respect, tact, and basic decency. His behavior reflected the exact opposite. What I find particularly troubling is that this kind of conduct increasingly seems to be regarded as normal. It feels like a reflection of a broader societal decline in courtesy, respect, and common decency. This is simply not how customers should be treated. The name "Sunny Side Up" appears to aim for an American-style breakfast culture built on friendliness, openness, and good service. Unfortunately, it remains little more than a façade. While the restaurant attempts to imitate an American concept, it fails at the very thing that defines it: friendly, professional, customer-oriented service! We left the restaurant disappointed and upset. Based on this experience, we will not be returning and unfortunately cannot recommend Sunny Side Up.

This place in the morning seems to fill up fast with reservations, so we made sure we arrived a half hour after it opened. You come in, and basically seat yourself if you can find a table that is open. Menus should already be on the table, but ask if you need them. Again, learn some German and ask if the waiter or waitress can speak English. We were lucky that our waiter did speak English well enough to order. They do have English menus, but thanks to Google Translate, we ordered from the German one. Since I knew how to speak in German, I ordered for my husband an omelette with cheese and tomatoes, and I decided to try their homemade pancakes, which was actually a crepe with their "buffet" jam. The buffet was literally a shelf along the wall with all different kinds of homemade and store brand jams. Each was more spectacular than the next! Excellent choice for something different on the menu. My hubby's omelette was super yummy and flavorful. The service was not rushed in any way, and the vibe here is very relaxed and laid back. We could tell people were truly enjoying themselves and not rushing to go run off to do something else. If you don't have time to kill, this might not be your place. When we arrived there was a sign saying the lounge was open. As we walked in we saw a lounge to the left but it was blocked off. But at the top of the stairs I saw Moët bottles and gold everywhere. We walked up the stairs and saw a welcome sign and a server. He directed us to the left towards the lounge area. The lounge area was mostly couches with tables and a fire place in the middle of the table. There were a few regular tables, tv and a decent view outside. Our waiter was nice and dressed very neat. The couches had a few cigarette burns which surprised me because the lounge looked so nice. Once we received our drinks they brought out bread sticks with oil on them. They were good but a little salty. Once dinner came out my wife loved her steak and my tuna steak was ok it was a little dry. The grilled vegetables were very good but there was oil in them also, plus my plate was garnished with oil and it got on my food. So my food had a lot of oil on it. Overall I liked the food but I could of passed on so much oil. For dessert we had creme brûlée it was amazing. Overall we loved the atmosphere and the service.
