A hole-in-the-wall RE agency, hiring the worst "wanna-be part-time RE agent" in NJ! This is as bad…read moreas the *other* hole-in-the-wall outfit, Pristine Homes and Estates of Haworth, NJ! So, here's the skinny on my experience with Karen DeMarco http://www.karendemarco.com/ who works as an independent agent under the "cover" Larry Kahn RE in New Milford, NJ. My mistake was trying google for a reputable RE agent. Mistake #1! At first, Karen is really attentive....takes all your calls and responds to your emails. She really convinces you that she is the best out there (plus her husband is a big time lawyer in Bergen County...yadda, yadda, yadda...) Once you agree to work with her, she flakes out on you. Big time. What really confuses me is that this somewhat intelligent lady turns into Mr Hyde once complacency sets in. You begin trusting her...and that's when the problem begins. Out of nowhere, she takes off for two weeks without letting you know that she won't be reachable and keeps you in suspense. She provides no professional courtesy to send you any email/voicemail/texts/snailmail that everything about your house is ON HOLD until...whenever! Just as you get tired of the games and finally email her that you are looking to work with another agent, she miraculously finds herself back to civilization and responds to your email; she gives you some lame excuse of her phone not working where she was (no, she is NOT a CIA operative, and I highly doubt her mother is Amish!). So, because you are a nice person and you want to give this woman the benefit of the doubt, you agree to give her one more shot. Mistake #2! After a week of solid communication, she takes off again. This time for 4 weeks! No replies to my emails or voicemails on what the heck is going on with my house that she is supposed to put up for sale nor about the tenants (the tenants were also looking for her, as she hasn't come by to collect the rent)....no simple texts on what is happening....just SILENCE for 4 weeks. Finally, I give up and decide to have a RE referral company refer me to the top producing RE agents in the Bergen County area. First of all, NO ONE has ever heard of Karen DeMarco in the RE agent "circle", and secondly, the word is in the street that this Larry Kahn "outfit" is pretty bad! Sure, Karen runs a semi-decent RE "blog" on http://www.karendemarco.com, but if you notice, she blogs for a while...and then her website is not updated...for months! Unreliable as her RE "service". Right now, I am still trying to collect one of the month's rent (as Karen had deposited MY rent check into HER account). I told her that if I don't see MY rent money in MY bank account, I will call the cops on her for theft. This is NOT how a RE "professional" should behave. To be continued.....

I listed and sold a home with Gateway Realtors in Hasbrouck Heights, and must say that it was the…read moreworst sales experience I have ever had. I have bought and sold several homes using a realtor, so I am very familiar with the process. I listed the home with Eddie Norman Narvaez, a new agent that moved here from Florida. He has to be the laziest agent in the industry. I was promised an open house, and never had one. I had repeatedly asked Eddie to schedule the open house, but he was reluctant. It is my belief that he did not want another agent to sell the house, and that he wanted to keep the entire transaction in his office. This had severely limited the amount of exposure we received for the property. Communications with Eddie has been very poor as well. He would not return email, phone calls or text messages. I would send him very specific questions, but would never receive a response. On the very rare occasion that he would respond, I would receive a canned response that I need to speak with my attorney, even though it was Eddie's job to follow up on the issues at hand. Due to the limited property showings that we did have, we only received one offer, which was from one of his clients. It was at this point that I contacted the agency's owner, Mary Ellen Courtney. I expressed my concerns to her in regards to Eddie's lack of response, not having an open house, and Eddie referring me to my attorney for questions he should have been handling. Mary Ellen stated that she would speak with Eddie, but nothing changed. Mary Ellen seemed to be inconvenienced with my concerns, even though she's the owner of the office. Once we accepted the offer, Eddie was non-existent. He dropped the ball on following up with the client regarding the mortgage, home inspection, town CO inspection, homeowners insurance, etc. Every time I had asked Eddie about the status of these items, he referred me to my attorney. He refused to make any contact with his client to move the sale along. He has the idea that once the listing is taken, that his job is over. He has no concept of how to handle a real estate transaction, and should not be working in this field. Eddie never mentioned to us that the buyer's mortgage fell through. The mortgage commitment date had passed by for two weeks, and Eddie never thought to mention this to me. I became very concerned at this point and requested that the house still be shown, as the buyer was having a problem obtaining a mortgage. My email and phone calls to both Eddie and Mary Ellen went unanswered. After at least a week, I finally spoke with Mary Ellen over the phone, and she so rudely told me that I was bothering her, and that she was spending time with her family! This is her business, but she does not want to speak with her customers? Eddie never informed the buyers that they needed to schedule a home inspection, or start the homeowners insurance process to get the necessary paperwork for the closing. He also did not set up the CO inspection, so I had to pay an extra $100 to get a last minute CO inspection from the town, since it was requested within three days of the closing. Again, I brought my concerns to Mary Ellen, but she did not want to get involved. She mentioned that when she hired Eddie, he seemed like a nice guy, and seemed like he knew what he was doing. But yet, she still did not want to get involved in the many problems that plagued this transaction. Bottom line, DO NOT trust the purchase or sale of your home with Eddie, Mary Ellen, or anyone else at Real Living Gateway Realtors in Hasbrouck Heights, NJ. They are by far the worst real estate company I have ever dealt with. If you are looking for a hassle free, professional transaction, you should definitely look elsewhere. Don't be fooled by their presentations and BS. All they want is their commission, and don't want to work for it at all. A real estate purchase or sale is one of the largest transactions a person will have in their lifetime. It requires professionals that know what they are doing, and work on your behalf to ensure that it goes smoothly, and that they have your best interests in mind at all times. Be very careful when a realtor avoids having an open house, and when offers are only coming in from realtors within that office alone. Some realtors will do whatever they can to keep your listing in their office, and avoid cooperating with other agencies. If you experience similar problems with Gateway Realtors, demand that they cancel the listing contract, and file a complaint with the Board of Realtors. What they have done in my transaction is unethical, and highly unprofessional. Avoid this agency and look elsewhere. You'll be glad you did!

Worst experience ever when attempting to see a showing of a home or anything related to real…read moreestate. I got to a showing early due to the fact I live 3 minutes away in the same area, while in their defense our realtor got there 15 min late (I timed it.) The agent showing the home was by far the most disrespectful & rude person I have met in the real estate business. The next door neighbor & the agent were outside moaning, groaning, pointing fingers at my car while my family & I waited for our realtor. Mind you we waited patiently due to the fact that its almost impossible to schedule a showing with this "Mickey Mouse" of a real estate company/business/whatever they call this poor practice. As soon as we got out the car the agent starts being rude unnecessarily in front of my wife & kids. He slams the door open & close then at the point we decided to not even go in & he states "good I wasn't interested either." Like really? Who does this guy think he is? Some sort of big shot? Yeah, right. Good try buddy. I normally don't pull this card because I disagree with it for the most part but this agent was none the less racist. This guy has no idea who he was dealing with & money wasn't an issue with us. I share this so no one bothers using this jimmy rigged business or practice for either listing or viewing homes.

I have 2 small children, one on oxygen and I've been voicing this concern and keep getting told "they dont make that size screen anymore".... which in result you'd think by now (3 years later) they would find a new window/screen company. My preception is they don't want to spend the extra money to get updated appliances. It is now the third summer without screens on my windows, so we cannot enjoy fresh air ever because there is constant bees/moquitoes/ any outside bugs. I understand we are in a woodsy area but then maintence needs to do better making sure we are safe and our children are safe in our apartments! About a year ago they brought me a USED refridgerator because my brand new one that the provided was over freezing, so instead of getting me a new one they gave me an old used one. I had to clean it myself and it has still not been replaced. But aisde from even that.... we've had a new issue arise where the HVAC in one of the closets was leaking so bad it we the entire closet carpet and they had to rip it up. 3 days ago, they came with a large fan and left it here for about 9 hours (Which of course we pay for electricity, so i had to call myself for them to come pick up the fan) they then put a bucket under to catch all the dripping water. NOBODy has came back since. I've had to emtpy this giant bucket of water myself for the last 2 days. Called yesterday, and again today and still nobody came. The maintince looks like its been out of control for over 10+ years, and I really do enjoy living here, so I hope they can be more on top of maintence requests and being considerate of the tenants and children.

This helped us later as we got our full deposit back when we moved out. Over the winter they stopped plowing. Basically the whole complex was stuck trying to get their cars out. Many neighbors helped each other which was nice but to me this was not acceptable. Overall it was a decent stay but the management made it more stressful.
