Southland Dog Training is amazing…read more Before they'll even work with you, they send out a professional to assess your dog in your home. They then walked me through the process, what things I needed and a very low pressure sales talk. I was looking to get my pup trained as a therapy dog and signed up for the program. Initially there was a hiccup, the girl that was supposed to be my trainer came out once and then cancelled on me. BUT, the owner of the company, Vince, followed up with me and personally came out and worked with Chance and I. He was fantastic and I think both Chance and I learned more when he was working with us than ever before. Overall, we went through four total trainers, the first girl (who was promptly fired), the owner, and two other trainers. Despite the initial hiccup, I know I ended up with more sessions than I had paid for and their training comes with a lifetime guarantee. Meaning, if I notice Chance has a digging problem today, I could call them and they would come back out to work with him again. I love that they work with you in your home. I love that all of their trainers went to a serious professional school for dog training. Most of all I love that it's one on one meaning my dog will listen to me and not just the trainer. Definitely worth the investment if you want a well behaved pup. Especially because my little gentleman is invited to my office as a permanent fixture now. :)

I feel confident that their trainers could help our dog's problems. I explained that our dog was recently traumatized and is acting out, and as we're adopting a special needs baby soon I need to ensure that I can trust our dog. Cons: when the word "investment" was thrown around multiple times warning bells started ringing in my head and for good reason. A 30 session program was recommended, at the cost of $4500. That's $150 an hour. When I stated that I couldn't afford that an 8 week program was offered for $1400 ($175/hr). When I stated that I couldn't afford that either the conversation was politely, but promptly, ended. I fully believe this company would do a good job but unless you can afford a few thousand dollars out of the gate, this company isn't for you.

We registered our 10 month old mini Golden Doddle, Remy, for the Dec 2022 class which ran through Feb '23. Yes the 1st class if for the "Parents" and simply explains what the class teaches, what equipment you should use, the use of each item, and answers any and all questions. So, in fact, there are really only 7 classes for our 4 legged friends. The classes are small, 5 in ours, and are well organized. The dogs and owners, and I emphasize owners, were started off with basic commands and controls. Throughout the entire length of training, the key to the entire process is practice..practice..practice!! The exercises are simple and the dogs picked up quickly. Remy, who can best be described as ADD, picked up the routines fairly easy and with practice, stuck with them. This whole training technique works really well if the owners are committed. Keep in mind that this trainer will NOT teach your dog to sit, roll over, shake or any other commands. That's not what this course is designed to do. It is designed to teach both the owner and pet to communicate with each. To that extent, this course is excellent. This course is what Dog Sense calls "Level 1". There are other Levels available. The course is well worth the money. The techniques used are simple, do not physically hurt the dog in any way, are are highly effective. Joel & Remy
