Beaches in New York are definitely not all that so we decided to hit up the Rhode. It did not disappoint! Let's start by saying it was only $14 to park for the whole day! There are restrooms/changing rooms on premises. Everything is compostable so no flushing but the restrooms sure were pretty clean. No running water so you're kinda stuck with just hand sanitizer. I would recommend staying away from yellow, just let it mellow. The area is pretty isolated, it doesn't get too too packed. There's a limit of how much parking is available so it can only get "packed" up to a certain point. Bottom line: come to this beach. This is all I know but don't tell everyone about it. When things become popular they quickly get ruined. I know, I should've not reviewed it but I couldn't stay greedy. You're welcome, LOL, enjoy!

We figured that people would have had to have left by then so we took a chance and drive down anyhow. When we got to the girl, we asked if they had spots and she said yes! It was $7 and we found a spot right away. Parking can be limited but they have bathrooms and the walk to the beach is only a few steps away. The beach is long and narrow with plenty of room for everyone with space in between. We headed to the right and settled just past the area that they monitor. We set ourselves up with our chairs, umbrella and Italian grinders! The beach is clean and well taken care of! I was surprised that the bathrooms had already been locked for the evening and it was only 6:30. I mean, we did pay to use the facilities... closing them before 7 on a peak summer weekend is a bit excessive. Check out the spot closest to where you park. The water is completely still and would make the perfect place to sit and enjoy the peace and quiet.

The only downside is you do have to get here extra early for parking because by 9:30 (especially during high season) the parking lot gets full. I highly recommend carpooling and coming in a small vehicle. Makes your chances of finding working even better. There aren't any nearby places for food or drink so pack a cooler and bring it over with some snacks. No dogs allowed during peak season. Must pay for parking. They take credit cards. Lifeguards are available in certain parts. Very quiet beach and a perfect spot to come relax in the summer.

The Watch Hill Flying Horse Carousel is a historic carousel that has been operating in Watch Hill,…read moreRhode Island since 1884. The carousel was manufactured by the Charles W.F. Dare Company in Brooklyn, New York. It is unclear when exactly the carousel was manufactured, with some experts believing that it was assembled as early as 1867. It is one of the two oldest carousels in the United States, along with the Flying Horses Carousel in Oak Bluffs, Martha's Vineyard. The Watch Hill Carousel is also the oldest carousel in the United States in which the horses are suspended from chains. According to local legend, the carousel originally belonged to a traveling carnival. They brought it to Watch Hill some time between 1897-1883 and left it there for unknown reasons. It contains 20 horses in two sizes and it's believed that the bodies of the horses were carved from single blocks of wood, with the legs carved and attached separately. When the carousel rotates, centrifugal force drives the horses outward, giving rise to the name "flying horses." The New England Hurricane of 1938 caused extensive damage to the carousel. The horses were recovered from sand dunes and the carousel was restored to operation. Today the carousel runs from June to Labor Day. My family and I recently visited the Watch Hill Flying Horses Carousel. We were visiting some friends of ours who were vacationing in the area. I remembered hearing that one of the oldest carousels was located in Watch Hill and asked if we could all visit. Like other early carousels, the Watch Hill Carousel features a brass ring device. We first learned about this concept when we visited the Flying Horses Carousel in Martha's Vineyard. A wooden arm dispenses iron rings that carousel riders try to grab as they pass by. If a rider gets a 'brass ring', then they win a free ride. This whole concept adds a fun competive element to the ride. We let our older son ride a couple of times and he was lucky enough to grab a prized brass ring and win a free ride. We all had a fun time visiting the historic carousel and look forward to returning in the future!

Early in the morning finds many folks parked; reading the local paper, sipping coffee, basking in the morning seabreeze while taking in the rocky rustic vista. If you are a sea glass, shell or rock collector, you'll undoubtedly find some treasures on this section of the beach. The evening is also quite lovely; expect to catch some wonderful sunsets while enjoying this calm serene location adjacent to Misquamicut beach.

Rhode Island has 5 giant trolls in various parks, and Ninigret has 2 of them: Greta Granite & Erik Rock. We stayed to the main paths as there are a lot of ticks around. And we saw a couple of fat turkeys who are probably feasting on the ticks. There are tennis courts, picnic area, a playground, observatory & senior center on the grounds. And plenty of parking.

Spent the…read moreafternoon in Rhode Island as an excuse to go exploring for the troll hunt which is gaining popularity, there is five giant trolls hidden across the RI state. Created by Danish artist Thomas Dambo, these massive sculptures are made from recycled materials and aim to promote conservation. The trolls can be found in various locations. I got to see only 2 of them that I can cross off my mapping for troll's list. * Charlestown's Ninigret Park is home to the Erik Rock and Greta Granite. It's accessible via trails and wooded paths. * Erik Rock lounges beside Little Ninigret Pond. * Greta Granite is located further along a wooded path marked by clues. It's a lot of fun to get on the mapping of the trolls and hunt them out all over the world when you're visiting the areas. It's amazing to experience these pieces of art created and designed by Thomas Dambo.
