What is there not to love about a clean, beautiful, Rhode Island beach? Came out here for a quick girl's beach day. We drove a whole 2 hours to get here and the trip sure was worth it. Beaches in New York are definitely not all that so we decided to hit up the Rhode. It did not disappoint! Let's start by saying it was only $14 to park for the whole day! There are restrooms/changing rooms on premises. Everything is compostable so no flushing but the restrooms sure were pretty clean. No running water so you're kinda stuck with just hand sanitizer. I would recommend staying away from yellow, just let it mellow. The area is pretty isolated, it doesn't get too too packed. There's a limit of how much parking is available so it can only get "packed" up to a certain point. Bottom line: come to this beach. This is all I know but don't tell everyone about it. When things become popular they quickly get ruined. I know, I should've not reviewed it but I couldn't stay greedy. You're welcome, LOL, enjoy! read more

We had a great day here today! It was like 100 in the city but the perfect temp on the beach. We arrived a little after 3 and the signs all said that the lot was full. We figured that people would have had to have left by then so we took a chance and drive down anyhow. When we got to the girl, we asked if they had spots and she said yes! It was $7 and we found a spot right away. Parking can be limited but they have bathrooms and the walk to the beach is only a few steps away. The beach is long and narrow with plenty of room for everyone with space in between. We headed to the right and settled just past the area that they monitor. We set ourselves up with our chairs, umbrella and Italian grinders! The beach is clean and well taken care of! I was surprised that the bathrooms had already been locked for the evening and it was only 6:30. I mean, we did pay to use the facilities... closing them before 7 on a peak summer weekend is a bit excessive. Check out the spot closest to where you park. The water is completely still and would make the perfect place to sit and enjoy the peace and quiet. read more

My weekend was a blast. This beach is private-ish, very clean, with a bath house, also very clean, cant go wrong. Downside is parking is limited, but when u have friends who live close by like I do, you get picked up&dropped off!! Win win. Beats the beaches in NY 10times over. read more

This is a really nice spot. I kind of avoid it in the heart of summer as I'm sure it gets crazy busy. The parking lot really isn't that big, but they have port-o-lets that are big enough to change in and it's just over the dune and you've got tons of beach. You can usually see Block Island really easily and the waves are great (especially if there's been crazy weather in the area). I've gone at the end of the season or when the weather's been a bit off and nearly had the beach to myself. It's a great spot to take my mid-west family and show off a beautiful sandy Rhode Island beach. read more

This was an awesome find! Someone pointed this beach out to us, and was so grateful. No crowds, obnoxious people or loud speakers. It was so relaxing. The drive to the parking lot is a little bit of an off-road experience, but so worth it! No showers to rinse off and there is a bit of a drop off. I love East Beach! It's so beautiful and feels more secluded than popular touristy beaches like Narragansett. It's a further drive but well worth it for a day of peaceful beach-going! There are many families here too. read more

East Beach I love you. For me, there is no other. Well...except Second beach, but only sometimes and it doesn't mean anything I swear. So at this point in the season I have checked out almost all of the RI beaches. These 2 are still my favorites. The waves vary from big but fairly gentle to your ass better know how to swim because a 7 foot wave is about to crush you. All my beach reviews are based on weekdays only because my schedule allows this fortunately and I prefer wide and long stretches of beach away from everything. the more secluded the better. This is the most scenic to me and the best swimming beach. read more

aaaahhhh...for those of us who love just going to the beach and relaxing...this is the place, hands down. It's a state beach, so your beach pass works here. Glorious stretch of white sand, good waves, and none of the craziness you get at Scarborough and Narragansett. Small parking lot, definitely get your butt here early in the summer! and yeah, no showers. Drive off road to your own private getaway. Gorgeous white sand and clean, clean, clean. You will find me here every sunny weekend all summer! OK, so you do need to get an off road pass as well as the RI state beach pass which will cost you 100$ for the off road and 60$ for the beach pass...thank you Governor Chaffee. However, this is worth it's weight in gold on a warm summer's day. There are no crowds, so we pitch a canopy and wheel in our coolers and chairs and literally camp out for the day. Big juicy waves, white sand, some seaweed but not the yucky under your feet type. It's like the rubbery plastic feeling seaweed that you can easily wade past and into a pristine ocean with a sand bar. Love it here! read more

The water is crystal clear, the waves are big, and the sand is soft. BUT get there before 9 if you want a chance at getting a spot. There's about 40-50 parking spaces for about a mile of beach. It's the same beach as Blue Shutters so you can always pay the parking there if needed and have the same experience! read more

Our go to beach in the summer. Parking lots are not massive so fill up quickly. The benefit being the beach does not get to over crowded. Get there early to be guaranteed a spot (8/8.30) it's worth it. Nicest beach in Rhode Island maybe New England an hour from Providence. read more

My favorite state beach! It is very family friendly, has very few rocks, has a decent drop-off, and seaweed seems relatively rare. People with proper permits and vehicles can drive in the barrier beach, find their own secluded spots (unless you count seagulls), and even camp there. Finally, there is a saltwater pond that contains all sorts of marine life, including sponges and horseshoe crabs. read more

This is a gorgeous beach! It is very clear with lifeguards on staff. It looks amazing and there a lot of seagulls everywhere. That still doesn't kill the clear water and higher clean waves!! You park very close and is 10 bucks to park! If you from out of state you will pay 20 dollars to park. Get here early and pick a good spot very close! Excellent beach, less crowded than others nearby. Beautiful sand and a much calmer atmosphere than the nearby commercialized and noisy Misquamicut. Very little seaweed, decent sized waves, just a lovely location. read more

If you want a quiet, beautiful, clean, scenic beach with gorgeous views, this is the beach for you! Plenty of beach to walk on with views of wild life, beach homes, the lighthouse and the open ocean. This was our 1st visit. We'll be back. The other guests were all respectful. The very few with music kept it very low. Hints: There are no facilities nor garbage cans. Park at the public lot just around the corner above the village by 8:30 AM ($30 as of 08/2015). It includes clean bathrooms and garbage cans. It's monitored all day. ENJOY! read more

I like sit here because the beach was clean lifeguard on duty, and there was hardly anybody on the beach! But the red tide was terrible. I have to how. Them the benefit in sayin they can't control this but I was disappointed I hate red tide cause the little bugs on it get into you. I liked that there was about 10 people there on the beach with us. If you do go further out there isn't any red tide. Parking was 15 dollars and it's very quite and worth the beautiful drive read more

Visited East Beach yesterday and loved it. My husband and I had never been here before; we live in CT. The white sugary sand so nice; the gorgeous expanse of dunes reminded us of Cape Cod. The water here is so clean, hardly any seaweed, no rocks. You really get to deep water here pretty fast; not sure if I would recommend letting little ones run loose in this water. Only problem I have is lack of enough changing rooms (bathrooms) and no showers to rinse your feet off. Otherwise, gorgeous! oh, and no flies that other people have posted about - thank God! read more

its a great beach, gorgeous view with huge waves and soft clean sand, but...I went on a holiday and they charge 28$ to park and they dont have any showers, and 2 of the 4 bathroom s were out of service sorry but its not worth it for a place with no facilities, go after 4pm and its free read more

When I was a little girl I used to go to East Beach with my grandfather. Those were magical times. We'd start out from CT at about 6 am and get a good parking spot on the edge of the lot so we could set up our beach chairs, cooler and radio at the back of the International Travel-All. Gramps would spend the morning digging for quohogs in Ninigret pond while my sister and I paddled around. Afternoons were spent on the ocean side. 20 years later I started going back and it's the same amazing place. The tiny parking lot prevents it from getting too crowded (or really crowded at all). As an adult, I usually show up about 2-3 in the afternoon, at which point people have started leaving and there's no trouble parking. The beach is still beautiful and relatively devoid of people. The water on the ocean side is crisp and cold and the waves are invigorating. Last time I went, there was a little area roped off for piping plovers to nest. Those little birds are adorable. After all these years, East Beach is still magical. I hope Sandy didn't do it much harm. read more

Great beach, good swimming, but beware of rip currents, big waves and deep water. There is a town beach (Blue Shutters) and a State beach, each with their own access fees and regulations. You don't need an off-road pass, unless you want to travel on the sand road that can take you up to 3 miles away from the parking lot. Otherwise the parking fees, albeit slightly increasing over the years, are very, very reasonable. Off season parking and access is obviously free. Walking on the beach at low tide, any time of the year is absolutely fabulous - up to 4 miles each way. Oh, and basically there is nobody there anytime - I guess most people prefer smelly gyms :) read more

This beach is everything that people say it is, beautiful. However, we stayed for 5 minutes...which is why I gave it a 4. The flies were have a convention at the beach and dining on beac goers. We spoke to one of the park staff on the way out and she said that the flies come out during a heat wave. We will be back but not during a heat wave...off to East Mantuck read more
