Spoke with Mr. Wee on the phone, as he was recommended by my sister-in-law's friend. I informed him that I was seeking a CPA that could evaluate my current tax situation. He sounded knowledgeable and we agreed to meet...the sooner the better for me. We agreed to meet the next day at 1pm.
I show up at his office at 1pm and I'm greeted by his secretary who is dumbfounded by my presence. It did not appear as if they were expecting anyone, from the look on her face when I asked about Mr. Wee. She told me to wait as she went to another room to contact Mr. Wee. Turns out, Mr. Wee was out to lunch and would be back shortly. I acknowledged her and waited.
Now I've never been to a CPA's office before, but I would guess it should resemble something like an attorney's office; this office wasn't anything like that. It definitely could use a make-over and de-cluttering. The waiting area had a convertible futon-like sofa that had seen better days; I chose to sit on a chair squished between a table of magazines and boxes of paperwork. Looking down the hallway and behind the secretary's desk, were boxes and boxes of paperwork all over the place. It looked a little chaotic and I was a little concerned at that point.
So I'm waiting there, reading a magazine. 10 min goes by...then 15 min. The secretary is continuing with her work whilst I wait and wait. About 30 min goes by when I decide, this is ridiculous. I'm going to pay this guy $300/hr for him to consult me and he has me waiting for him for 30 min without so much of an update as to his whereabouts? I tell the secretary that I have other things to do than to wait, and I leave.
Mr. Wee calls me, about 15 min later, apologizing for missing me. He indicated that he had to pick up his daughter from somewhere. Now I can understand family obligations, but to have me sit and wait, a potential new client, for an appointment that you agreed to, without so much as giving me an update on your situation prior to the meeting (or even while I was waiting), really is in bad form. Now did I want someone who forgot one of the basic courtesies of doing business, handling my taxes? Not likely due to my 1st impression. Would you? read more
