Attention all South Asian couples, I suggest you read this review. We had our wedding at Generations/EDR September '22 contracted with Weddings by Lomas. As south asian professional living in the US I suggest you read this review to protect yourselves. We had ~144 guest, we paid a majority of our payment to Weddings by Lomas via credit card. They fell short on the follow aspects which we were not okay with.
- Sofa rentals for Sangeet 2 pieces were missing of the 4 we paid for. Essentially half, the sofas seated 8-10 people. Which means half of the guest that are elder and handicap cannot sit on the furniture which we allotted and paid for.
- Chai: We brought our own chai from the US as per weddings by lomas requirement which we paid Mexican customs on, and in addition we paid $2 per person. The stations were not labeled so guests of the resort outside of the wedding venue were drinking our tea which we bought. We had pictures of random resort guests enjoying tea which we brought and paid to have put there for our guests.
- Buggy for Bharaat: It rained on our original wedding date so we rescheduled to the next day. The next day no one notified me that the buggy was not working (random excuses as to why it was not working). They provided a golf cart in leui which I only found out when I came to my bharaat. To which I opted to walk as pictures in a golf cart will not allow proper photos since a golf cart is covered. Especially when we've spent so much on photography/videography. I walked the full length of my own Bharaat, yes walked. Their response was: We're not responsible for items due to weather. Which is in fine lines of the contract. I admit that, however you should notified clients so they can improvise. I did not know until I entered my bharaat.
- Cake: We opted for a 3 tiered cake, of which 2 layers are real, 1 of which would be foam. We specified which layers should be real. During our cake cutting ceremony at the reception, the layer that should have been cake, was foam. We literally fumbled in front of 140 guest spending about the longest 8 minutes trying to cut foam and realized its not cake. So our guest saw this not to mention videography will most likely have to edit and only capture the beginning moments of this.
- For our first dance we opted with low lying smoke to ensure the whole dance floor was not filled with smoke. We used Wedding by Lomas' vendor. We reiterated multiple times what we are looking, to which they acknowledge. Furthermore the quotation mentioned it was "Dancing on clouds" not "in" the clouds. Smoke filled the whole dance floor. We had one guest with pulmonary issues that literally had to leave the venue as the smoke was so thick. You couldn't even see us. First dance photos were ruined. Their response was, you had a drone which caused the smoke. I actually had friends/family film us. I counted, the drone was hovering over us for a total of 6 seconds, twice, so a total of 12 seconds. They also blamed the doors being opened and closed as guest used the restroom and wanted to leave the venue. We educated ourselves after the fact and turns out they just didn't use the right equipment to ensure it was low lying smoke. The price was reflected as if it was, just not the product.
- Reception: We opted for a family style service, so items were served at the table. We had 3 life long vegetarian aunties each meat at three different tables. We could understand if it was isolated to one table. The culprit in retrospect was Weddings by Lomas never labeled any of the dishes served to the center of the table. You'd think if you're paying a per person cost, they'd ensure items are labeled so guests know what they're eating. We mentioned we had a 60-40 split of vegetarians to non vegetarians from the start.
All this being said, we had issued a chargeback with Amex and explained all the above to Amex. They suggest you've paid for certain services and the merchant did not provide them adequately. Therefore if you have proof we can charge back whatever you paid. We charged a total of $29,925 via Amex in 3 parts. Therefore we charged back a total of $9,925. The total material goods mentioned above added up to ~ $5,600. I explained to Amex. We felt frustrated and helpless since they were counter-arguing every valid point we provided as clients. We felt for the items mentioned, it was worth the full amount of $9,925. Amex mentioned if the merchant provides proof redacting what you're saying we can adjust the amount at that time.
