I am very pleased with WECU. I recently had to go into the Ferndale branch to discuss a fee that I thought I had done everything to avoid. I explained the situation and the teller was able to refund my account. I am happy to bank somewhere now that gives back to their members through interest bearing accounts and ways to earn rewards. The only drawback is it can be fairly busy but that's just because everyone else is as happy as I am and don't leave. read more

I used to love this place however it has really been going downhill. If you need a teller plan on waiting at least 20-30 minutes. I have been sitting in the drive through for 10 minutes and not moved, this is not the first time and have the same thing happen inside. Unless you can get in at a non peak hour maybe? Anytime I have had an issue it has not been met with kindness and you will have to draw out an explanation if the answer is not sufficient. In my experience it has not been offered freely. Seems like it is more frequent that there is only 1 teller in the drive up banking and takes an act of congress to get help. They do not keep track of what car pulls up first so if u pick the wrong lane well.... that guy just got done before me oh look that one too. I don't personally bank with Whatcom Education Credit Union (WECU), but I have nothing but positive things to say about them. Their presence in Whatcom County is obiquitous. You can find a branch in every city center as well as your neighborhood commercial hub. Their employees volunteer time and financial donations to community organizations that help make Whatcom County strong. Plus, they offer two, state of the art community education meeting rooms for non-profit organizations to reserve and use for free. The meeting rooms have chairs and tables that can be setup in whatever configuration your event requires. There is a kitchen with utensils, a refrigerator and even a coffee machine. A lectern is provided, and you can even hook up your laptop to their Internet and projector for powerpoint presentations. WECU is part of the credit union network, so if you bank with a partner credit union, WECU will provide minor transactions like deposits and cash withdrawls. I'm a big fan of WECU; and whether you choose to bank with them or not, you should be too if you live in Whatcom County simply because of all the good they do to support our community. read more

Never have to wait, friendly and semi efficient. Recently due to fraud, my credit card was cancelled. I went into Lynden branch and ordered a new card. Ten business days have since passed and when I went in to check, I was told a new card was never ordered. Meantime I have bills to pay and now pass due. A "rush" order was made to be here Thursday. Have had an acct. with WECU for several yrs. & have always been satisfied with their service; both the Blaine & Ferndale branches. Recently, due to a death in the family I've had a need for a notary on many occasions. This is a very difficult time and I've been fortunate to connect with Colleen @ the Ferndale branch. Due to the Covid situation it is not easy to obtain these srvcs. Colleen has kept in touch & set up appts. for me to fit my schedule when headed into Bellingham. Today my appt was with Brian & he was every bit as helpful and accomodating. Could not ask for more from my financial institution. KUDOS to all the personnel I've had to deal with, proud of my mbrshp. Also need to mention how pleased I've been with their "distancing", cleanliness & protective methods. read more

They are a nice bank for the fact they have lots of locations throughout whatcom county and have the mobile app. The app goes down a lot. Not very fast or efficient inside the bank. Today their server went down. So you can't draw more the $200 out of your account and it's the first of the month. They have been down all day and it's a long weekend. So people are without money till Tuesday. They should have a back up server. It's completely ridiculous. read more

I have been a member at Whatcom Educational Credit Union for many years, I have several accounts there and have previously written 5 star reviews on how great WECU is. That all changed recently when they upgraded their online banking website. A couple of months ago they did an upgrade to their online banking system, and wow it is horrible. You can search the other reviews to find some of the minor inconveniences, and stories of lost money, but for me the real deal killer is that there is no way to get a quick online bank statement. The previous system allowed you to pull a PDF copy of your monthly bank statement any time you wanted it, that was awesome, and it allowed me to go paperless on my accounts. Why would I want paper in the mailbox every month when I can just go online and get my statement. Well that all changed with their upgrade. I have no way to get my statements other than paying for a request to get a statement re-printed. You have the ability to go into the account an "view statements", but anytime you click to view the statement it says that it is not available. THERE IS NO ABILITY TO VIEW YOUR CURRENT OR HISTORIC BANK STATEMENTS, that is unacceptable. Now bank statements are important for many reasons, one of which is tax season, trying to reconcile certain things with my taxes. Forget about it, you can't get a statement. I will be switching credit unions soon. If you care about online access to your bank statements, forget about it. Choose another bank or credit union. read more

This is my favorite WECU branch. The location is great, and the parking lot is huge. However it's the staff that makes that difference for me. I have never had a bad encounter with any of the wecu staff members and I have been banking there since I was 18. 15 years later and it is still my favorite bank. Whatever ur needs may be, they will go out of their way to make sure u are satisfied. There's definitely a professional feel but I like the friendly feeling I get when I go there. I've only ever been inside this particular WeCu branch location, but boy was it a pleasant experience! I was probably the most impressed by the comfort offered every teller--each with their own individual large desk. Plants and paintings abound. You can really tell that WeCu cares about their people. I have been banking in the Ferndale branch for over 20 years. Sure there have been hiccups over the years, but I've always been treated well. I've always found this branch to be very helpful and can get most of my banking needs fulfilled. They have many locations, so getting access to an ATM is great. The Ferndale branch is short on staff at this time, so they could not provide 2 employees to witnesses a notory signature. read more

WECU Ferndale is a great local bank with friendly and helpful tellers. We use them for both personal and business accounts. However, when we were applying for a mortgage in 2019 we had trouble getting an appointment locally and had to drive into a Bellingham branch for service. I don't know if it was the result of the hot market or limited mortgage staff at that branch. read more

Do not use this credit union! They are the most poorly managed establishment (bank or credit union) I have encountered. The man who opened our account "forgot" to enter in that we wanted to use the online banking so I had to stand in line for more than 20 minutes so the clerk could spend another 10 minutes trying to figure out what they did wrong. No one told me that the online deposit feature is not available for 30 days... another phone call, on hold forever while the customer service person called 3 people to figure out that was the case because no one knew what they were doing. C'mon folks, I was trying to put money INTO your bank. My opening deposit had a hold put on it for 10 days so I couldn't even use the account. Any time I called or went in, the people who worked there acted like they were working their first day. Total lack of professionalism and sheer incompetence! I had originally intended to get a HELOC, but trust me that was far too complicated for their employees to figure out. They asked us to fill out the same paperwork 3 times because they kept losing it, asked us for the same information multiple times because they "forgot" or couldn't find where it was entered in the computer. The first day, the poor woman couldn't even figure out how to use her phone system! Go anywhere, but do NOT put your money in this credit union. read more
