He is very, very conceited, and treats his employees with absolutely zero respect. We were in their shopping during a weekday in January, and he was snapping at his employees and ordering them around. I was offended watching this. It made me uncomfortable. I will never shop at a business where an owner treats his employees like garbage. I asked a young sales lady on my way out what the new owner's name was, and she said it was Dan Schmidt. I hope that Dan AND people who are considering shopping there read this. He seemed too busy disrespecting his employees to notice people witnessed his behavior. I truly feel sorry for the people that work for him. I am considering calling a national number for this furniture store, even though it is independently owned. Do better!

I went to this store because they had a decent selection of purple mattresses. I went in and told…read morethe salesperson I needed a bed and frame. I found the bed I wanted and then I started looking at adjustable bases. I was told the bases came with a 10 year warranty and $100 off bases costing $1000 or more. The only base available was the middle one for $1000. It wasn't the one I wanted but I said okay. Here's the kick in the pants. No discount on the frame because the actual cost was $999.99, one penny short. (imagine that) The 10 year warranty is not included, it actually costs $99.95. The manager said that's automatically added on to which I replied, you said they came with a 10 year warranty, not that one was available for purchase. He didn't seem to grasp the difference. After a few minutes I decided it's not my job to educate this person on being accurate with the information you give a customer regarding price. I said have a nice day and walked out. I can afford to throw my money around, but I won't have a salesman do it for me and act like it's no big deal. There are plenty of other places to spend my money and when it's thousands of dollars, I expect at least a basic level of competence.

I chatted (online text) with a rep and asked if I could come by and pick it up as I wanted to avoid their $299.95 shipping fee. He said sure, but the price would then be $538 (after discount)!! That's a $178 markup! He said they first had to ship it to their store. Well, how else does all their furniture get to their store?! Why would www.ashleyfurniture.com advertise an item where the customer would then have to pay a stocking fee?!! He claimed they were independently owned. And I guess that means you can forget what www.ashleyfurniture.com shows on their web site. To me, this is bizarre and does not help Ashley's otherwise good reputation.
