The place is clean, though there is a bit of a smell (what do you want, people are working hard in here - lol). Only reason for the 1 star deduction - it can be hard to understand the instructor as it can come through a bit garbled. Also the music isn't played loud enough for my tastes, sometimes you just have to hear Eye of the Tiger on level 9 to get you through. All in all a great place to work out!

I attempted to post on his CKO Facebook page. This actually generated a response. He did not sound very happy about it though as he said he would speak with the "former member" my wife. He said he wanted to clear up the matter ASAP and provided his telephone number. He also indicated that his records show that he had returned the money. My wife called him the very next day. He said he could not access the information and was contacting the bank to verify that a check had been issued and cashed. THAT WAS A WEEK AGO. If he has records indicating the money was returned it should be easy to prove. If he needs to contact the bank it must mean a check had been issued. If all of this is true then it shouldn't take more than a few minutes on the phone to clear this all up. Our last attemtp to call him went unanswered.

I agreed to follow it but he can't seem to handle people telling him they don't agree with him. Kind of a jerk move to refuse service to a kid because their mom doesn't agree with you.

Very energetic and passionate about his craft. He helps get you sweating those pounds off in the short and quick 50min classes. In a few months, I dropped a dress size and lost about 15 pounds! The option to go Mon thru Sat is awesome too and the schedule is accommodating to the busy-bee. The other members that go there are friendly and cheer each other on, so there is a lot of support. Upon opening the door and walking in everyone looked at me and my kids and immediately knew we were unknown strangers. No one screamed stranger danger. Instead we were greeted by the warmest group of people I could have ever wished I met. I knew right away I was in the right spot. Alex, the owner came over and said hi. Mario, the kids instructor, introduced himself and asked the kids if they wanted to join a class. He makes it a point to know every child's name. He remembered both my kids names the next time we went. They love him and talk about him all the time! Shoes and socks came off quicker than you could imagine and before I knew it I felt I had been going here for years. Everyone was talking to me, introducing themselves and telling me how great the place was and how much their kids love it. My kids were treated like they were regulars and had smiles from ear to ear. At the end of the class they asked me when they could come back again. The instructors make the kids class not only a learning experience but they make it so much fun for the kids they can't help but want more. I'm looking forward to my first class and watching my kids grow here along with all the other kids. I highly recommend this family friendly place. Of course Alex was just amazing.

A month ago, I decided I needed to get my confidence back and joined Spyda Muay Thai on a trial…read moremembership. I'm not going to lie and say that it's been easy. My journey the past 9.5 months has definitely been difficult. I wasn't supposed to live, but I defied the odds and survived sudden cardiac arrest on June 25th (only 8% do), had an S-ICD implanted in my side on July 1st, had open heart mitral valve surgery on September 15th, a blood clot/TIA/mini stroke on September 22nd, and a cardioversion on November 11th. Throughout, I was as active as my recovery would allow, which isn't saying much. In January, I started working out like I did pre everything, trying hard to get back to my pre-everything fitness level. When I heard they had opened a Muay Thai gym in Garwood, I went to check out a session and ended up participating. I have absolutely no training in Muay Thai, but rather traditional boxing so I was definitely intimidated. What I learned is that the people in this gym are awesome humans who really care about everyone's success, no matter what that looks like individually. I decided to do this because boxing always gave me such confidence and concentration and I knew I needed both again. After having my world flipped over, things haven't been great. It's been a long road that seems never ending but this is helping. It's really hard for me. But I am doing it and I am really proud of myself. The first class, I was hit with the realization that my brain is not the same as it was pre SCA. Truth is, I knew this, but I tried so hard to pretend it wasn't my reality. I have trouble remembering what I knew so well and am forced to relearn everything each session, sometimes multiple times during the hour as my brain loves to reset itself. We're talking true basics like how to jumprope (I fight with the rope each session as my brain doesn't talk to my wrists doesn't talk to my feet), stances, the difference between a jab, cross and hook (for whatever reason, I remember the uppercut)-- never mind remembering combinations that were just called and thoroughly explained a couple of minutes prior. It's actually been easier for me to learn the kicks because I don't get frustrated with them but rather try to understand the why of each one. I'd highly recommend Spyda Muay Thai to anyone, no matter what your fitness level or experience. "Spyda" is a tremendous teacher and such an amazing person. Everyone is absolutely incredible at this gym. Please don't think you can't. I am living proof that you can do it and there will be a bunch of people there who will cheer you on and motivate you to keep going. Believe me, I know that it can be completely intimidating, but once you step foot into the gym, those fears will disappear.
