Our son transitioned to PDC from another school that was not as much of a fit for him. In the 3 years he has been with PDC he has truly blossomed and matured into a very capable and independent teenager. The school operates in a very hands on and interactive way. The children have many opportunities throughout the day to move, exercise and express themselves whether it's through yoga, martial arts, hikes, field trips or gymnastic classes. Education-wise, they have a wonderful staff that truly cares and supports not only the children but their families as well. PDC very much individualizes their curriculum for each child and makes adjustments based on the children's needs and interests. They also very much include attention to life skills such as cooking, cleaning, public speaking and social skills. PDC is a very empowering place for neuro-divergent children. Parents, read this before you consider Brain Balance…read more My experience with Brain Balance specifically with Frank Amuto,was stressful, dehumanizing, and completely unacceptable. I chose to cancel after realizing the program is not covered by insurance and is not recognized as evidence-based care by insurers or standard clinical pathways. That was not made clear upfront, and it should have been before any financial commitment. What followed was worse. After cancelling, I was given information about my financing and the bank that did not match what the bank later confirmed directly. There was constant back and forth, conflicting information, and I was being pressured about money I did not owe. At one point, I was told that if I did not pay additional money, I would not receive my financing back. Let that sink in. Frank Amato's behavior escalated the situation. His communication was rude, dismissive, and condescending. He crossed a personal line by questioning my judgment as a parent, including making comments about why I chose to have a child with my child's father. That is completely inappropriate and unacceptable. Nothing was resolved until I escalated and brought the bank directly into the conversation to force transparency. Only then did the information finally align, the refund get processed, and the loan get closed. This entire experience created real fear around my finances and my credit -- something no parent should have to deal with, especially while caring for a child with ADHD. For clarity, my child is now doing well and receiving therapy that is evidence-based and covered by insurance. Be extremely careful. Verify everything directly with your lender. Get everything in writing. Do not rely on verbal assurances.

There's a reason this school has mostly all new students each year. Most of us chose to leave this…read moreyear because of constant drama among staff, a mid-year teacher shortage that left the younger students stranded (& their parents out tuition money), and a director who lets literally anyone join the school. The school used to serve kids w/ learning differences, but as of the end of the school year, there were students with severe autism mixed with students without learning differences but rather severe behavioral issues that got them kicked out of previous schools. The mix did not work, but because of financial issues at the school, all enrollment rules went out the door. A couple parents who had paid for the school year in advance lost their tuition - the school didn't have the funds to reimburse. Some parents had to get attorneys. Students who were left without a teacher mid-year were only given their school records if parents signed NDAs. My child, and most others, actually regressed last year because classes are so loose. Grades are given arbitrarily; no student makes below a B on their report card. The strongest teacher, owner of the therapy dog, left the school (for retirement) - a huge loss, as she was the only teacher certified to teach Dyslexic kids. None of the other teachers were certified in Dyslexia remediation, and none of them have teaching certificates. Save yourself money and heartache and do not enroll your child in this school.

His grades were too high for him to qualify to be tested for services. We decided to have him privately tested April 2012. We had heard excellent things about Effie and the staff at Thinkers. My mom used to work with a Speech Pathologist and she administered testing to children. The testing process was very familiar to her. We were all blown away by how extensive the testing was with Thinkers and how accurate the results were. In one hour, Effie determined that our son was 1 1/2 years ahead in his visual learning and 1 1/2 years behind in his auditory learning. That explained the gap the teachers were seeing at school in 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade with Z's ability to memorize the spelling list but not be able to sound words out. We knew this gap would continue to grow if we did not do something about it. Z began tutoring at Thinkers in June 2012 and continued off and on until March 2014. He completed Interactive Metronome, several lessons in PACE and the first 2 books in Master the Code. We immediately saw results.
