Ok, I will readily admit, despite having an uncle who plays country music, that I am just not a fan. Country music is simply not my cup of cocoa. However, I can respect old country, alt. country, etc. since artists in those genres write socially-conscious lyrics, truly appreciate the struggles of common folk (that's me), and were/are truly outlaws.
But this "new country"?
I reckon that real, hardcore, serious, studied country fans hate the stuff that's played on the radio nowadays in the same way true metal fans hate nu-metal. How do think I feel about The X?
If it's not syrupy jingoism, it's songs about drankin' and partyin' and doin' laundry and all kinds of mundane shit. Seriously, this is some of the blandest music ever.
And it's the same songs all the time over and over!
I've heard that this "new" country is the States' most popular radio format. No wonder we're headed over a waterfall.
I guess the term "country variety" refers to stations that play some old stuff too. I did hear "Take This Job And Shove It" today, which has a cool, workin' man's message. Yet I never hear any Johnny Cash or Willie Nelson whenever the boys at work play with the radio.
Please don't email me about this. If you really, really like country, you should find this stuff on WDSY to be dog food also. read more
