I have been a long time listener and supporter of WYEP for years. We are so fortunate to have this…read moregreat music station. It has been going at it since 1974, way back when the first broadcast occurred in the basement of a South Oakland building. It was started by a group of volunteers, and continues to remain independently operated and a member-supported station. Fast forward to the Community Broadcast Center on the South side, its current location. This radio station cannot be taken for granted when so many other radio stations have come and gone, or find themselves under the clutches of corporate broadcasting. WYEP promotes itself well, and rewards its' members and listeners quite frequently. For instance, as a donor, I have been invited to at least 2 Live and Direct sessions at their studio featuring well-know musicians, attended an outing at Club Café, viewed the recently released Beatles movie at a local theater, and, will be a guest at an upcoming performance at the Pittsburgh Winery. This all occurred within the month of September! I cannot say enough good things about the station, their selection of music, or all of the community programs they promote and sponsor. The Pittsburgh community is well-served with WYEP's presence, and I certainly hope it will be around for many more years to come. I am very proud to be one of it's supporters.

Do you like your venues intimate? Well folks, the WYEP Community Broadcast Center is as intimate as…read moreit gets! It's a 100 (I'm guessing) seat performing arts space at the WYEP Studios. It's a place where you can see the artists close up and you really get a chance to feel like you're one with the show. I know, places like First Niagara Pavilion where you sit hundreds of feet away amongst the throngs of sweaty people and get overcharged for the privilege have their charms. But a concert at a really small venue like this is something every music fan should try. My cousin and I went here to see the Patti Spadaro Band in concert. Spadaro is a rarity--she's one of the few female lead guitarists out there. Whenever people think of a female guitarist, they often think of a folkie with acoustic, a rhythm guitarist, or a bassist. I'm not as familiar with her material as I should be. I've seen her at a few area festivals and only now am I getting into her music. But she plays as she says, "bluesy, jammy rock with wailing female guitar." She played a lot from her newest CD "Bringing Me Back" as well as a little bit of her older material. It was a rollicking good show and now I've got to go out and get her CDs
