This is a church I'd have once given a good review for its commitment to preaching from and expositing God's word - in fact, I thought I did so. I started attending as a new Christian about 7 years ago, becoming a member soon after. I left in April this year. Though the word may be preached, there are serious flaws a prospective congregant should know about. In my time there, the largest board of elders consisted of 2 men, including the pastor. This is admittedly a challenge for small churches, but sadly I saw how a prolonged period of too few elders can play out practically. In essence, there's a concentration of power and a lack of checks. Accountability of leadship is, to me, the most glaring concern. I'll leave it at that in an effort to caution prospective congregants but also not get my post deleted. The remaining church body is in my regular prayers, but it's no longer a church I can recommend.

The community they are building is going to do great things, and it feels amazing to be part of their story and growth. These are not "Sunday School" Christians or stuck-up Christians like media tries to paint all Christians out to be. These are people you want to live life with. They are people who care. They are people who struggle and hurt, but also people who laugh and love. You can see God in this place. It's a beautiful thing!

Everyone is singing, dancing, and the atmosphere is genuinely so good, I've never felt so comfortable to let loose and enjoy the presence of God - the leadership is not only super balanced, but so wise. The pastor and/or an elder will probably treat you to a breakfast or lunch and get to know you but talking to them feels amazing. No judgement, you can definitely see how they influence the church with their openness and wisdom. - KIDS MINISTRY! It's amazing for parents, there are SO MANY KIDS AT THIS CHURCH! Such a family oriented community here. - Everyone I have talked to so far and have become friends with really take Jesus serious. There isn't a lot of two-facedness if I can say that. As in, what you see is what you get. - Lifegroups are a must! YOU not a Muslim will NOT be invited into the school side of the building. This is quite an amazing conglomeration of religions to say the least. The sermons by the senior minister, The Rev. Penny Nixon, are consistently thought-provoking, meaningful and very relevant. There is so much more I could say about the wonderfulness of CCSM. All of them, really. There's something special here and I'm just happy to have a little part in it. I love the way the lead pastor and the team of pastors connect the Bible to our lives and helps us to understand the heart of God more each Sunday. Our kiddos are loving the youth ministry and having kids from their high school/middle school there too. One of the best things about CPC is their heart for the community. They don't just talk about following Jesus, they work hard to serve the people around us in ways that are impactful and relevant. Please realize, folks over 65 are not the most comfortable with social media. Many church events, however only family and close friends who are related to the pastor get invited. This used to be a wonderfully inclusive church for decades. The new administration are young and don't appreciate anyone older than them.

I'm probably slightly biased since I am the children and youth pastor here at CBC, but I have to…read moresay that this is a wonderful little church! It has a definite feeling of family (so for everyone whose family is not perfect (read:everyone) neither are we, obviously - we definitely have our quirks.) We are located in a residential neighborhood that is very diverse: Asian, African-American, Hispanic and Tongan. Our building is small, so we work hard at accomodating space for everyone, and using the space to it's utmost advantage. (We have no room that is solely for youth or for children, since all spaces have to be shared with all ages - but it does force us to also be fairly intergenerational, which I appreciate.) This church loves to eat and to take opportunities to thank God for all God is doing in our lives by sharing meals together. We are also situated right next to a Japanese Presbyterian church, with whom we partner to do our Vacation Bible School in the summer. They are wonderful, sweet, talented, Jesus-loving people, and it is great to have that partnership with them.
